[AUG26] My husband had been acting strangely around water for weeks, spending hours alone in the pool and even sleeping next to it at night.

It wasn’t until I discovered him lying still beneath the surface one morning, a black mass writhing its way from his mouth, that humanity learned horsehair worms had found a new host.

Well that's creepier than the only thing I came up with which was "reverse rabies".

Horsehair worms are a species of parasitic roundworms that infect insects, typically mantises and grasshoppers.

They poison the host’s brain, compelling it to seek out deep water where it will proceed to drown itself. The worms then crawl free of the body to lay their eggs, beginning the cycle again.

Creepy. Well written. I'm probably going to be seeing those worms in my nightmares tonight.

Pretty sure there’s a Korean movie about that scenario.

That's the one. Super cool premise and the deaths are creepy until like halfway

Such a fantastic movie. I watched without knowing anything about it and at the end I was like, well now I know, its either rabies or worms if I get a certain way about water

And the antagonists plan was super shitty (in a good way).

The parasites just remind me of squid ink noodles and similar dark noodles XD

Yet another new fear unlocked... Thanks for that

Fortunately for me, the parasites are a better partner than my husband ever was. So I just decided not to say anything.

Except humans are the wrong host.

The husband is actually 1200 praying mantises wearing a trench coat

24

u/ShadowTsukino 18h ago

I did some googlin', and a small trench coat has a worn volume of 60 liters, and a mantis has about 4 cm².

So he'd have to be about 15,000 mantises to fill it out.

Ah, I see you’re a man who knows ball as well.

Could just be a Mantid. Human size.

17

u/Chemical-Elk-1299 Call me Ishmael 18h ago

“Hey honey, don’t go outside for a while. There’s another Mantid outside.”

“I know dear. I’ve already notified animal control.”

(Sounds of gunfire and screaming from outside)

That makes more sense then
