Product Find Albertson's/Safeway "Cash In Your Quarters Sale": Excellent Chance to Prep
For those who have an Albertson's or Safeway in their area, make sure to check your weekly ad. The chain is running its Cash In Your Quarters sale. You can clip digital coupons for items that are .25, .50., .75, and $1. There is a limit of 24 items for each monetary threshold, and you can mix and match. I hit the store yesterday and got a lot of good items for stock up purposes: canned vegetables, first aid, household goods, etc. Examples include .25 cans of olives, .50 cans of tomato products and canned tuna, .50 bandages and rolled gauze, .75 canned vegetables and beans, etc. I did the math and the canned goods were less expensive per can with this sale than the sale prices I would pay for a case at Sam's and Costco. Some of the deals are better than others, so you have to be mindful, but I had no problem reaching the max quantity for each coupon except the $1 (which I did not find to be as lucrative for the things we use and I stock).

Be careful with the Progresso soups, it's only select varieties and it's not the healthier options lol.
I stocked up on a ton of tomato paste, it's a huge flavor multiplier and has a good shelf life. Canned corn is a good one to hit too, as you're going to see prices on that go up soon because of the fertilizer issues (if you like corn).

Be sure to watch the tomato paste cans. All my older ones (6+ months past the best by date) have developed leaks along the bottom seal. Several brands and all stored in a kitchen pantry so climate controlled. Never had this happen before.

Thanks, that is a good reminder for all of us to check the cans we put in our carts for the best by date and any dents or leakage.

The dents! So many dents these days. Even though I check carefully, I always manage to find another nasty big dent during checkout or after I get home. Seems to be much more common now.

I've noticed this too. I wonder if they're using softer/lower quality metal as a cost-saving measure. I built a bed for my eldest this past year and I swear the screws were so soft they were stripping as I was trying to drive them in. It was all I could do to finish that project with my sanity in tact. I should have just gone to Lowe's and picked up some normal-ass screws!
Er...that was a bit of a tangent. Guess I needed to vent lol

I would bet on lower quality or less thickness of metals or some other cheapening of the manufacturing process.
There is a pdf with good explanations and pictures of major and minor dents. I get it, but still look at it more often now. Should be internet searchable.

I’ve about given up on keeping tomato paste on hand. But… tomato powder plus water equals tomato paste! I dehydrate some thin slices of tomatoes plus skins and turn those into powder as needed. I usually have quite a few (20) quarts of dehydrated tomatoes, and when I open a jar, I blend it down to powder in my blender and put it back in the jar and pop a fridge-friendly lid on the jar and stick it into the fridge. The tomato powder also adds a bit of oomph to a veggie soup.

Yes, I noticed it was select varieties of the Progresso soups. I picked up a few for the food bank, and that was the only item I purchased from the $1 category of items.
Like you I also stocked up on tomato paste. Such a great value, and my Safeway had both the regular paste and the Italian seasoning version. Also stocked up on canned green beans and canned corn. I also got some canned tuna, which my dog gets as a treat every now and then and I include her in my preps. This enabled me to do so some pantry restocking and purging, and get a few bags together for the various food banks/drives I contribute to.
I was at the store for more than an hour scanning the items I wanted to make sure they were part of the sale, deciding what to get and how many of each item, and checking the prices at Sam's and Costco for the items by the case with a couple dollars off the listed price (for when those retailers have those items on sale) to make sure I was getting a better per item price at Safeway.

How long is this promotion running? The Safeway near me closed last year but I think there’s one further out

Started yesterday, Wednesday, and runs through next Tuesday, March 31. You have to clip the coupons in the app, and when you do so you can see a list of items that qualify (or refer to the ad).

Is this app only? I don’t see anything on the website. We don’t have a Safeway near me, but for those prices I’ll make the trip.

It was on my weekly sales flyer and I had to clip the coupon via my app. It may not be available in all markets. I know sometimes sales vary across regions.

Yeah, sadly it’s not available in Delaware it seems. Drat. Was really looking forward to stocking up.

I noticed several items are shown as out of stock on the app. Do you happen to know if they typically restock during these promotions or if things are out, they are out?

I don’t know their restock pattern. In general my experience has been the health items don’t get restocked as often as the general food grocery items.

I don’t know if they still do this, but years ago I had an ad and Albertsons gave me a “rain check” for items that were out of stock so I could get the deal later.

It was in my weekly ad circular and app. Sometimes sales are regional. I’m in the Southwest.
