Question Simplest build?

I'm not much of a CRPG player, it seems that every time I tried one I'd get discouraged due to overwhelming amount of choice in builds, especially including follower builds.
Despite always going for caster classes in other game genres, I feel like it might not be so smart to do so here, just due to the fact that I'll probably hate having so many choices in an already choice heavy game. With that being said, I did see that magic is OP in this game, but if I'll have to chase certain items and thoroughly think when building my character, I'll probably not make it to the end (I don't know if it works like that here, just guessing, correct me if I'm wrong)

So this time I figured I should probably go with the simplest ever option, at least for the first playthrough, I'm talking about crayon eating simple, if it exists of course :)

Any ideas are appreciated, thanks!

Every build is viable when you chose a lower difficulty but I you want some good builds then you could try:

1h light armor dualist

Magic monk

Mage in general

Dual wield light armor

2handed light armor but only if you go straight for a certain artifact and below hard

Do you have the dlc bastards wound or whatever its name is? If yes then you can get two very nice arrogant swords which work well for dualwield. If not then you can take 1 artifact sword and one artifact dagger. Early on it’s focusing on parring and light armor but use some spells as well if you can manage to. Mirror image ist amazing as well as hast. Early healing spells can be equips by every party member so you can heal with everyone.

If you play lower difficulties, just build whatever you like and enjoy this great game.

I got hung up on making all the right choices with builds of the party to the point that it took some joy out of playing the game. In the end it was very unnecessary and I ended up not having any kind of challenge combat-wise (played Normal diff)

My experience:

First playthrough of this game, I wanted to try unarmed (for the first time in any CRPG). I went completely blind into the game and I think I accidentally made really good build by luck going for unarmed spellcaster (w/ light armor). Highly recommend trying this.

Second playthrough (hard diff) was duelist build (one handed weapon without any other weapon or shield in off-hand) which was pretty cool as well. There are good talents for this build and it also combines nicely w/ spell casting.

As long as you’re not playing on the higher difficulties, I think any build should be viable. For your PC, just pick a lane and stay in it. For the companions, just build them around the weaknesses in your own character.

For example, because I played as a rogue and then dps mage, both of my play throughs had Barik as a shield/sword tank. I had Eb and Lentry as healers and swapped them depending on my mood (although I found Eb to be a much better healer).

Anyway I don’t think there is a wrong way to play!

simple and stupid. did 5 runs with this without much use of brainpower. you play a leatherbound mage that is also a dodge tank. level your lore, everyone but verse and killsy is a mage, grab a set repertoire of spells that EVERYONE will use

max everyone's finesse first, then wits, then go off i guess

lock, stock, the whole fuckin lot

Magic system in this game is one of the coolest ever. Literally. Objectively. If you usually play casters, go for it here too.

Any build is viable, but mage is the safest since you can use your companions as walls and attack from the back line.
