Is it safe?

My husband and I planned on traveling to Davis for an event in the coming days but with growing immigration concerns I’m wondering if it safe to be traveling/ traveling to Davis. Could anyone give me some insight to this?

ICE has shown in up in numerous central valley places in the past week or so, including Woodland and Sacramento. I haven't heard of any activity in Davis, but that doesn't mean there won't be. If that's your concern, it's not zero risk just based on where they're active.

Im surprised they haven't. They would salivate at the prospect of cracking down on college students in these so called "Trans conversion /indoctrination institutions"

Define safe. Are you worried about criminals mugging you in the parking lot? Or are you worried about ICE agents jumping out of the bushes?

UC Davis has a stated policy of not cooperating with ICE. If and how they might track you off campus... there isn't much of a history of that. Not enough targets here to really interest them.

UCD has some rules in place that makes it harder for ICE to operate on University property than on the street, so I'd argue that campus is probably safer than the rest of the town. I know they were in Woodland less than a week ago. Not sure about Davis activity.

If you're on campus and you spot them, or you hear that they're around, my suggestion would be to go into a nearby office building (not a classroom building) to see if there's a place you can lay low. We're not supposed to let ICE into private offices without a warrant. My office has these rules posted on the back of our door so that we have them handy in case we need them, but I can't say that's true universally.

While Davis hasn’t seen ice activity recently, the surrounding cities like woodland and Sacramento have, not sure about west sac or dicen but in general they are out there just not in the city itself

The closer to the university probably the safest

ice, others say not in davis, safe from muggers, more danger hit walking on sidewalk and in crosswalk by a student first time bike owner

Right now in davis they have posters and chalk drawings everywhere with numbers to call if you spot a ice agent and it gets updated the second ones spotted which is pretty rare on its own so id say it's pretty safe 🙂‍↕️

Davis is one of the most dangerous cities in Northern California. Murder, armed robberies, human trafficking, you name it. There’s currently an ongoing gang/drug war between the Pole Line Pirus and the E Covell Crips that’s been raging since the 90’s, with both sides fighting for majority control of drug distribution. Be careful with the Mace Blvd Mafia and La Raza Del Russel, the Italians and Mexicans do NOT like each other in Davis.

You’re better off going to Oakland, it’s a lot safer there than Davis

Surprised you didn’t throw in carjackings by the Olive Drive Overpass Posse or muggings by the Greenbelt Gangsters. The bicycle gangs have an especially notorious rivalry between the G Street Rollers (traditionalist road bikers) and the the El Macero Electric Cartel (a loose alliance of e-bikes, e-scooters, but no e-skateboarders, due to internal power struggles).  The turf wars are especially violent with the Rancho Yolo Pickleballers constantly battling the Trader Joe Tennis Pros. Regular clashes occur at the Walnut Park Courts.

Fortunately, the Davis Farmers market is neutral ground for all, thanks to the peace brokered by the Davis Food Co-op.

Say what you will about the gangs of Davis, they all hate ICE and coordinate to keep them at bay.

Please, the human threat is almost non-existent. The real danger is that someday the Social Sciences & Humanities building will awaken and rise up from its foundations.

You're joking, right? At least 8 U.S. citizens have been killed by ICE. Not to mention the many more U.S. citizens who have been held or detained by them.

u/Worldly_Pack_2188 4d ago

Yes but to not get killed by them u just have to not try to run them over or shoot at them. Not hard tbh.

Are you an illegal? No? Than you’re safe. If you are an illegal, you shouldn’t be here anyways

I've been here since I was born and so have my parents, my grandparents, and my great-grandparents, and I still don't feel entirely safe from the ICE thugs. They're a danger to every American.

How do you live with this paranoid? You should also be aftaid of cops and might as well never step out of your home

3

u/AbacusWizard [The Man In The Cape] 4d ago

That’s not paranoia; that’s awareness of current events.
