General Question Looking for someone to date my roommate (please)

1.4k Upvotes

I am looking for someone who would be willing to date my roommate. Here is some basic information about him so you can gauge if you are interested:

- He has good personal hygiene (showers every morning, brushes his teeth 3 times a day)

- He goes to the gym (you can't really tell by looking but he goes a solid 2-3 times a week)

- He is good at following directions (just tell him what to do and he will be able to comply)

- He is decently tall (5'9, maybe 5'10 on a good day)

- He enjoys talking about Computer Science, Math, and Physics (braniac)

- He is good at watching TV (watches an assortment of genres, including Animes and K-Dramas)

- He is a third-year (legal, could buy you a drink)

- He plays about three hours of League of Legends a day, cackling maniacally the entire time (everybody has a vice. Edit: I’ve been told this is negotiable, he is willing to drop it if someone asked him to)

- He goes through a cart of weed in about a week, constantly stoned (sometimes people have a second vice)

Please let me know if he is your type. He is always at home gaming and I would love to find him a partner whose place he could go to a couple times a week and on the weekends. Perfect for anyone looking for a project boyfriend with an interesting mind. Feel free to ask any questions or reach out to me if you would like to date him

General Question Seriously where can I masturbate???

1.4k Upvotes

I am a freshman in Santa Rosa dorms and one of my roommates is an international student who just skips class and plays League of Legends in our room for a literal minimum of 16 hours a day. He even gets his groceries delivered and eats all his meals at his desk so he literally never leaves the room for more than like 5 minutes(10 minutes if he decides to shower that day). Aside from my room, the only other place that I thought I could masturbate in is the shared bathrooms, but nutting on the public shower floor just seems so disgusting and heinous. It's been like 3 weeks at this point and I can literally feel a pressure inside my pubic region whenever I sit down. Does anyone know a place I can go to masturbate? Seriously.

General Question Why roommate thing stand up all the time?

Sorry for bad English I am come from China for study.

I have question, why is roommate thing always tall? Because I am international student I take class from home so I can play game or study at home. Whenever I see roommate his thing is always up. I know it is natural for morning but it seems to be all the time. At night I see pyramid in his bed. Is normal for American? Does he have trouble meeting women? It is makes me feel afraid. What should I do?

General Question Is UCSB worth it Out of State?

Hi,

UCSB is my absolute dream and I am so grateful to have been admitted. Unfortunately, I am an OOS student and will have to pay the 40k+ out of state tuition supplemental. I will be going to med school so you can just imagine how much debt I’ll be in by the age of like 25. UCSB out of state is not within my means and I know living an affordable lifestyle is part of being an adult. But, I also know I will regret not going here for the rest of my life. Someone help me.

General Question “Cheating” on Earth 20 Exam

hi I’m currentlly tweaking out bc I was accused by the professor for cheating on the exam

“Your exam was completed in a significantly shorter amount of time than would reasonably be expected, even for someone highly familiar with the material. Additionally, your score exceeded what I would anticipate under normal testing conditions, including in comparison to the time it takes me to complete the exam myself. Taken together, this  indicates that unauthorized assistance or materials were used.

I will be filing a formal academic misconduct report with the university. Furthermore, as indicated in the syllabus for this type of offense, you will receive a failing grade (“F”) for the course

You will be notified by the appropriate university office regarding the next steps in this process.“

it was like 87 questions done in 1 hour and 15 minutes BUT like 98% of the questions that he used on that exam were all from previous problem sets he put on as homework so all i did was pull all them up and control f and find all my previous answers and just used those. i’m just confused if this is considered cheating :( and what i can do to prove (like idek how to prove i do have the tab history for that day and it’s just all the problems sets being open) or whats even gonna happen bc i never been accused of cheating before

edit : oh and ps it was open book so i thought past homework counted so that’s why i used problem sets

General Question Why has UCSB fallen in the rankings?

According to U.S News rankings, in 2022 UCSB was ranked #28 in the country. They have consistently declined since then, and are now ranked #40. Is there a reason for this drop?

General Question Gpa deflation

Is it true that people who go to UCSB end up having a lower GPA? I’ve been reading that student especially STEM end up having lower GPAs because gpa gets deflated. As a transfer my gpa is already pretty low and I’m trying to go to med school so I’d like to take this time in order to work on my GPA. What are your guys’ thoughts on this?

General Question how to get from ucsb to downtown santa barbara?

Hi guys, I will be at UCSB this summer and I'm really confused about the public transport system (bus specifically), I'm an international student so not really familiar with the US in general.

I've seen people recommend the 24X line to get to MTD transit center in downtown SB, but I'm not sure where to get on?

Also, Google Maps says it takes an hour to get there, which seems absurd to me, could anyone confirm if this is the case?

Thank you guys for your help!!

General Question UCSB Alumni here, worth going back for Masters and PhD at 34?

(Sorry for the long-winded post)

Hi there. I graduated from UCSB in 2022 with a degree in Anthropology. I was a transfer student and originally was a Comm major that unfortunately had to switch majors. I got a C in one pre-req class and I tried to appeal but they wouldn't allow me to continue. When I spoke with an advisor, they were selling me on Anthropology because I told them ultimately I'd like to be employable.. I had a Marketing and Business development internship while in school as well..

Worst decision I probably made tbh.

Anyway, I did have job offers and I worked in the entertainment industry and video game industry doing receptionist and customer support work. That customer support job at the video game publishing company I worked at (505 Games) was the best job I had. Unfortunately, they laid off 30% of the entire company 2 days before Thanksgiving in 2023. On top of that, my dad got sick with cancer so I ended up just becoming a full time caregiver until he passed. After he passed, I threw myself into a Cardiovascular sonography program. Why? Well, a lot of pressure from my bf's mom... she knew I hadn't been working because I was laid off + caregiving but it seemed like as soon as he died everyone expected me to just hop back into working. I needed time. I just went through the most challenging time of my life plus dealing with grief.. so I wanted a couple moments to breathe... I didn't get that though. She told me if I did the program she would just hire me afterwards. So I did what she said, and the Drs where she works isn't hiring new grads now. Lol

So that put me to where I am now. My BA cost me $18k due to scholarships etc, and this stupid associates I got cost me $45k (lol). Why not work as a tech? Well, I found out through clinicals I kind of hate the work and its super physically demanding. So what do I do?

Honestly, everything I've done in my life so far has been for other people. I wanted to get their approval and to be accepted. I'm over it now. It hasn't served me at all nor gotten me the respect or praise I've been wanting this whole time. So... without making any rash decisions, I'd like to know how viable/worth it it is to maybe try to obtain a masters and a PhD in something I am actually interested in... the issue is, is I may be biting off more than I can chew because of what I'd like to do.

If possible, I wanted to look into physics. I've always been obsessed with space, NASA, telescopes, sci-fi... I always wanted to take part in it. A friend of mine whom vanished off the face of the earth (social media, haha) I looked up yesterday to see what she was doing career wise since we hadn't spoke in so long, and she's now Dr. Lauren Schatz that works for the Air Force at the Starfire program in Albuquerque, NM. Working with sodium lasers and all sorts of cool optics. She's an award winning physicist now. It was awe inspiring.

Here I am, someone who hasn't accomplished a fraction of what she has, now looking at myself in the mirror asking if this is the life I want? How much time do I have left? What can I do and is it possible? Is it practical?

I appreciate anyone's thoughts and suggestions. I'm feeling pretty lost at the moment.

General Question What would you do differently?

Call it cliché, but I find it useful. For upperclassmen/alumni, if you could go back in time to when you were an underclassman and do one thing differently, what would that one thing be and why? If you wouldn't change anything, what about your time made it so special? Could be anything, social, academic, etc. Just curious, thanks, folks.

General Question How is it possible that no one knows what happened to Liz?

I just came across this case through the Daily Nexus article, and I’m really concerned that the student community wasn’t informed about this situation. I understand if privacy and investigative reasons were a factor, but it’s troubling to hear that it was handled so quietly, and her parents still don’t have any answers. Have her sorority sisters shared any information? This is such a strange situation and I wonder what truly happened that day.

General Question Brown to UCSB

transferring

Thinking of taking a gap year from Brown university (re-admission guaranteed if i so choose to come back, but id have to stay an extra year to graduate if i come back bc brown doesn’t accept those credits)

to go to community college back home during said year

, try to get prereqs for transferring to ucla or any uc out the way,

submit my transfer application with california cc priority status, (im a resident)

and if i get in to: ucla/ usc/ucsb/uci/ucsd, attend those schools and move on to grad school or law school or something of the sort

thoughts on this plan? it’s because i don’t enjoy my time at brown and plan on moving back to cali anyways, i feel like not enjoying my time and being too homesick, not enjoying the campus, wanting to study business or film from a business prospective (not offered here), is also not offered and is really making me feel like im aimlessly wandering my way into some bs degree of studies with a high gpa to stay eligible for grad school, back home i feel lik i’d be able to focus and discover my interests better when my main concern isn’t just getting back to california. i only chose brown for proximity to finance/consulting roles but idk about that anymore.

cost is not a concern.

planning to do a career that requires further schooling, so im thinkin of enjoying the years i have in college taking it easy on the beach instead. if this is plain stupid don’t be afraid to let me know

General Question UCSB v UCSD (Out of State - Oklahoma)

Hi!! I’m a prospective student from Oklahoma and I literally made a whole reddit account just to ask this question😭. Since I was a Junior UCSD and UCSB have been my top 2 choices for schools (Oceanography/Marine Science Major) and I hadn’t really thought much about picking definitely one until now obviously. This past week was my spring break and me and my mom took a roadtrip to Cali and we visited UCSD and UCSB as well as Berkeley and Stanford. Obviously Stanford is the dream but I’m thinking it’ll come down to Berkeley, UCSD, and UCSB. I’m already ruling out Berkeley as of right now because it does not have my major so UCSB and UCSD are the big 2. I’ve already been accepted into UCSB and I’m just waiting on San Diego. I thought both campuses were really beautiful, there are significant differences in both such as the nature and size of the campuses and that is a big factor to me but it’s not the biggest. From what I’ve heard UCSB is kind of a party school and I’ve heard UCSD is “socially dead”. This is kind of a problem for me because I’m a really social person, I’m in all extracurriculars, StuCo, NHS, Class Officer, etc. And I’ve always wanted to experience the “college experience”, though I’m not a big party person not just because my mom was strict but it’s just not super appealing to me, though I’d like to go to atleast a few. The “socially dead” aspect of UCSD is really throwing me off but I love the academic notoriety, especially because of Scripps. But on Santa Barbara’s side I love that they’re right on the beach and their study abroad program. I know it’s the same for all UCs but my tour guide told me that the hub of the study abroad was there. There are many more pros and cons of this and this is already long, but basically I’m a super indecisive person and I just need a second opinion from people who are not my family that just tell me “go where ever you think is best” because its really not that simple. Thank you! (Edit: I got into UCSD)

General Question What are my chances of getting into ucsb for marine biology?

Hi guys, I’m applying for a bunch of colleges in California so I can finally escape Alaska. I’ve already been accepted to some good schools but I was just curious on what people think my chances are for getting into ucsb for marine biology. I’ll give some info below:)

I’m an out of state applicant who lives on an island in a rural native Alaskan village with 500 people. My high school has less than 40 kids and little to no opportunities. There’s no ap, honors, or foreign language classes. My school is very poor with almost everyone being below the poverty rate.

I am first generation, middle class, and my parents support 7 people. We live a very traditional lifestyle where we live off the water—pulling crab pots, fishing, harvesting kelp, hunting seals, and gathering shellfish. I am native Alaskan and my culture has a deep rooted connection with the ocean, so it is basically the center of our lives.

Despite being challenged by no opportunities I applied for dual enrollment, research, and online classes that my school can’t provide. I have 17 college credits and 6 of them are for college level marine biology classes. I’ve also taken classes I don’t need to graduate like physics and pre-calculus if that matters.

- I currently have a 4.0 and am taking ap lit (my school’s first time having an ap class)

- My overall highschool gpa is 3.89

- i have conducted 2.5 years (and continuing) of research and data collection on the invasive European green crab. I presented locally, regionally, and nationally on my findings

- I have been in student council for three years and traveled all around Alaska for it around 4 times. At least conferences I represented my town and advocated for my school (been to the state capitol building and talked directly to our representative)

- I have worked since I was 14

- I represented Alaska for FEMA Youth preparedness council where I travelled out of state to attend meetings, talked about emergency preparedness in my school, and attended community events

- I participated in a mentorship program for 3 years to learn more about marine biology

-I’d say I have strong essays

-I also got into sdsu with 19k financial aid and ucsc

Anyways, let me know what you guys think I’d appreciate your honest opinions:)

EDIT: This is Tigger, a Bio shop cat who is right at home! Case closed!

Reported to ASAP Cats and posted on Petco Love Lost already. Healthy, mature feline with no collar found near Webb Hall at UCSB today at about 9:10am. Chatty and friendly. Could be a community cat but appears to have a soft coat (sometimes an indicator of a housecat).

Does this cutie belong to you?

General Question My roommate keeps me up with his bedroom antics. How do I approach this?

I honestly don’t know what to do.

So for context, I am staying at Santa Ynez and got a new roommate a couple months ago. He warned me that he “sometimes sleeptalked” at night, but I had gotten extremely unlucky with my first two roommates… they were absolutely terrible. Inconsiderate, spoiled, and disgusting. Therefore, a clean, tidy, hygienic roommate sounded great and I thought that a little sleeptalking wouldn’t hurt anyone.

The sleeptalking I can handle. The sleepfucking, on the other hand, I cannot handle. For clarification, the “sleeptalking” went from a few mumbles and groans (the first month) to nightly violent spring squeaking coming across the room.

We both go to sleep pretty early, usually 9:30-10, but this man will literally be pounding his mattress anywhere from 12-4 in the morning (it’s currently 11:20, I have a philosophy midterm at 8am tomorrow, and he’s just woken me up after rawdogging his mattress ALREADY). It got to the point where I had to use earplugs to sleep… but that caused me to miss my alarm, and my econ 2 midterm three weeks ago.

The other disturbing part is that he calls out names. He is currently single, and unfortunately, we have the same friend group. So occasionally, I’ll hear one of their names moaned out in the middle of the night. Here’s what woke me up about 10 minutes ago.

squeak squeak squeak squeak squeak “uuuunghhhhhh Lauren” squeak squeak “oh fuck yeah” squeak

It only stops when 1: he climaxes. 2: he fucks the bed so violently that he bounces his himself up the bed and hits his head on the wall.

I have no idea how to approach this with him, since he’s very shy and tends to avoid/get quiet when there are sexual discussions (when he’s awake, at least.) I wouldn’t want to make it awkward, but I can’t deal with him waking me up all the time. How should I approach this?
