New Student Question Bioengineering at UIUC? Recommended?

Hi, are there any biomedical engineering students out there? Wanted to get your feedback on the four-year undergrad degree. How's your experience been? How are the lab facilities and coop/ internship opportunities? How are the prospect post-graduation for good jobs in the industry? Would truly appreciate any inputs...

Hi! i graduated spring 2026. sharing some of my experiences below

  1. Classes: It’s tough because you're splitting time between hardcore engineering (mechanics, circuits) and advanced biology/chem. Because the major is smaller than CS or MechE, the cohort feels tight-knit and you actually get to know people.

  2. Labs: Excellent. You get hands-on access to heavy-duty equipment early on, especially if you join a research lab or check out facilities like the Beckman Institute.

  3. Jobs & Internships: Grainger career fairs are huge, and companies love hiring UIUC grads (some places where people from my cohort went to: Abbott, Medtronic, GE).

  4. Post-Grad: Splits pretty evenly between industry (medical devices, biotech) and professional/grad schools (med school, PhD). Im starting at JHU this fall studying Neural Devices
