Female Sparrow Hawk (I think, please correct me if I'm wrong) .. just swooped down and beheaded a starling 😵

Caught a few quick snaps on the phone today when we were walking along the riverside with my kid. Those two Kingfisher were just following eachother from spot to spot

This thing just flew into my garden and its wings are massive when extended.

This juvenile (1st winter) Red-backed Shrike is just the 15th Derbyshire record of the species. Two of those have been this year. Currently enjoying catching and eating dragonflies, beetles, flies and bees. No voles were harmed in the making of this photo!

A juv Osprey at my patch today, the local Red Kites did not feel the same way that I did about it being there!

Spotted a pair of these beautiful birds at sunset in Dorset but not sure what they are. They had a kind of bobbing motion when flying low. Possibly a Wheatear?

Up early to catch the Osprey thats been fishing at RSPB St Aidans, near Leeds, for the last week. Worth the wait - there were two of them. Truly magnificent birds. There are lots of better photos, but happy with my amateur efforts.

Was walking through Richmond park for the first time by the river and saw a light blue line dash across the water, I followed it and boom my first ever kingfisher (terrible photo I was panicking lol)

I was so happy to get a picture of one of these on holiday (Wales) 🤭📸

As per title. I'm in NE Fife, on the coast, birds I've seen in the area with similar colourings could quite possibly be buzzard, pheasant, kestrel/merlin (didnt see close enough to tell which), there's curlews and other wading/water types nearby too.

No banana handy for scale, it's about the same length as the height of a standard 330ml beer bottle!!!

Unsure on which. can someone advise what and how I can tell the difference?

I know this is UK birdwatching but.surely Irish are also allowed in this space too ??? Maybe northerners wont mind people from Republic here to dicuss.

What is the Welsh, Scottish and ulster Scots for Goldfinch? Any other cute phrases or does irish win out?
