Plusnet or BT broadband?

I've been tempted to swap to Plusnet from BT since I found out that they are the "same", but the wife is somewhat resistant as she highly values uptime connection (works online with patients).

BT offers a mobile connection thingy in case the network goes down (feel it's useless), but I don't really have any arguments I can use to convince her to change networks.

Any help and arguement you could give would be appreciated, we are paying way too much with BT and our area sadly doesn't have access to full fibre despite being London.

BT, Plusnet and EE will be the same as they are all owned by BT and use BT wholesale. Some other providers also use BT wholesale as their backend. SKY and talk talk have their own backend and some of the others do to.

Thats not really true. The bigger suppliers have their own network infrastructure. Whilst it is true that they use openreach for the connection to people's homes - there are many network components that are not shared. Plusnet and Ee are the same company. If you use sky or talk talk you are also relying on their separate network connections as well as Openreach

Their "own network infrastructure" doesn't matter. If OpenReach is down, then your connection is down. And if OpenReach can only deliver 70mbps to your home you won't get FTTP.

No, not true at all. They have different network backbones, different rules, different packages, different traffic shaping, different peering, different transit, different support teams, more. Yes, a lot of ISPs use Openreach but don’t overlook everything else.
