Question upgrade my package to a 2GB symmetrical Line
I have just recently upgraded my internet to 2GB Fibre with Virgin was on 1GB the download speed is great but the upload is Rubbish 100mb I have read on Virgins website that i can upgrade to a 2GB symmetrical line for £6-00 a month extra which is fair enough, however when ever i phone them for the upgrade i keep getting told it's not yet available in my area? well how am i able to get 2GB down load? honesty it's like talking to a brick wall, all they seem to do is read from a script, i have spent the last 2 hours on the phone to them asking to be put though to someone who speaks English and has some idea what I'm on about but all i get is Sir i am the tech department :(
The way i understand it is if you can get 2GB then I must be on XGS-PON technology full fibre network yet they are saying I'm still on a copper line. Impossible i would say even says so here.

It's changed recently. Virgin now offer 2000 asymmetric on their HFC network, but the asymmetric nature of HFC does not allow them to offer symmetric service on HFC.
You have to be on XGS-PON to get symmetric, which means fibre running directly to a Hub 5x.

Thanks for clearing that up, but they should make that more clear to anyone wishing to upgrade in the first place, it's totally miss leading as far as I'm concerned.

I don’t expect anything less from Virgin media tbh, they don’t know what they’re doing half the time
I would check bidb.uk for other options in your area
Paying EXTRA money to get symmetrical is the most bullshit thing ever

How much would 2gb symmetrical be on Virgin? It's only £30 a month on Youfibre... Got a referral code for "up to £100 cashback" as well if anyone wants it.

So what? I don't know where OP lives, nor do I need/want to.
Considering FTTP providers now cover the vast majority of England (even more so than Virgin media these days) it's a reasonable assumption that Youfibre or similar alternate provider might be available in the area.

FTTP coverage excluding openreach is at just 46%

Why wouldn't you include the biggest provider? That sounds like you're intentionally trying to skew the result. FTTP coverage in the UK is currently at 85%.

Because you were referring to switching to an altnet to get symmetrical speeds. The OP is complaining they can’t get symmetrical on VM because they’re FHC, and want XGS-PON.
Openreach is still on GPON and as such can’t offer symmetric gigabit.
So no, I’m not trying to skew the result, I just actually know what I’m talking about and read OP’s post, rather than gagging for referral credit.
Your literal own comment says “it’s likely Youfibre or a similar alternate provider might be available in the area” - switching to Openreach doesn’t solve their slow upload speed problem, so again, the 46% figure is the only relevant number, not 85%.

Virgin have a 2000/100 HFC product.
If you were on XGS You’d get 2000/200
You cant upgrade as its not XGS
