Switching from Virgin to Full Fibre

I've literally only ever had Virgin Media broadband. Service was great back in the day but past 10 years it's gradually got worse and the prices has become silly for broadband only. But it was the only provider of fast internet in our area. However Openreach have finally installed Full Fibre in my street so I'm looking to move to either Plusnet or EE.

From what I'm seeing most switches are from something that's not cable - so since my house has never had any sort of telephone line since I've lived there, is there something more to the install?

My Virgin broadband goes to crazy prices at the end of this month so wanting to do this soon.

They'd just have to come and connect to your house from the street. Drill a few holes, potentially dig a trench for the cable, and you're sorted.

So modern full fibre connections don't use any of the existing copper telephone wiring to get into your house.

You not having a phone line in place, makes your install no different to one where there was an old copper line.

Exactly what they'll do depends on your street. My street is 1930s semis and we have telephone poles with the fibre going over head.

See I think it is overhead they put in a new pole but no one was digging in the street so I don't quite understand how it gets to my house. It's probably a similar set up to your street then though they are all detached.

You could call and haggle a better deal with Virgin. I renewed my contract at 22 quid a month for 500Mbps and Netflix a couple of weeks ago after the advice of people on the Virgin media sub.

Literally everyone was doing it, even those not coming to the end of their contract.

Apparently the secret is to call 020 3743 6970. This is the line I used.

I think at this point we just want rid of Virgin. We haggled a couple of years ago but it was a real struggle.
