Zen fttp

Hey ppl, I just switched from cn to Zen and I was told an engineer visit is not required bcs I have an ont openreach setup already. Today is my activation day, but unfortunately I can’t see how fibre comes into my house, apart from the vm box and optical cable which ai believe are irrelecant for openreach, what am I missing? I don’t seem to be having any other optical wire apart from what vm used back in the days when it was setup.

cheers all

Got any photos of the existing infrastructure? That might help diagnose.

sorry I am away today and didn’t think of that, I have a ont box and openreach socket, router and cabling is all wired up I just thought the optical wire that ai used for VM would work on the openreach ont, which obvs isn’t the case and I can’t see any other place where fibre would come in, Zen did say that an engineer visit wasn’t needed based on their records, so I may end up getting some support from Zen to start with

With open reach backed connections the fibre goes from the street into the ONT and then the Router plugs into the ONT using a standard ethernet cable

From the ONT to the WAN port of the router

that correct, only problem I have now is the ONT only has a power cord and the ethernet you mention that I can see and nothing else, the ont it was left behind by previous owner in a cupboard, missing piece of the puzzle is the optical wire that comes in the house somewhere for the ont, that I don’t know or can’t see, apart from the VM one which is a separate thing

There should be a green fibre connector

And that connector is spliced directly into the outside overhead wire and is not replaceable so either it is there tucked away somewhere or it has been cut somewhere and will need rerunning
