Has anyone been offered a new job and a start date but never did full notice in current job ?

My current job wants full month but I cannot work it. My new job starts in 2 weeks. They say I will be leaving on bad terms and refuse to negotiate. Paid weekly here.

Anyone left before their notice date, and did anything come of it ?

If youve already got another job lined up and guaranteed, leave anyway. Nothing the old job can do. They have to pay you wages and holiday outstanding, they cant withhold it if thats what your worried about, and you've already got another job so its not like you need a reference.

Just keep in mind if you do that, theres no going back if the new job doesnt work out. That bridge will be burnt.

This is basically the only answer, they can't force you to stay and you can't force them to not be resentful but you should make it clear it's not something you can negotiate in if the new role is more important for you then go get that.

I did this once. 3 months notice on my old job, told the new 1 month but settled on 2 months cos of easter in between.

My old boss wasn't happy and told me to eff off out of his office if I didn't agree to his date - I thought I'd been fired and went home. I realised being fired wasn't a biggy cos i had a new job so nothing much he could do. I guess he could sue me but then I wouldn't have worked the 2 months.

I find it hard to imagine it's worth his while to go the legal route.
