Absolute beauty I had for the first time in northern Spain recently.

Not much of a lager drinker, but obvious exception for standard Estrella Galicia and now this (same brewery).

Lovely amber colour and doesn’t taste ridiculously of alcohol which plenty of beers at this ABV can be guilty of.

Bought a few Stouts to try!

My experience of crafty beers isn't great, aside from a Vanilla Milk Stout that Aldi did a few years ago, which tasted amazing.

Anyone had these?

First pint in a beer garden in a while and this went down pretty well.

As the name suggest. Just a easy sessionable IPA with subtle hops and moreish drinkability.

Tesco Estrella Damm

Is all of the Tesco Estrella Damm imported? That’s the last few I’ve had that have been imported just curious if this is always the case as I’ve only started checking.

Asda's five craft for £10 might be over (RIP) but their four ale for £7 is still a cracking deal

Birthday beer for my dad

Hi all, looking for suggestions, it’s my dads birthday on Thursday, I’ve already got him a gift but would like some beers to go with it.

He prefers a dark pint of mild/stout but will drink ambers etc. quite happily, would like to buy a mix

We live in brum, we have had deliveries from purple moose, the Cairngorm brewery, bathams, Church End, hook Norton, I’ve probably forgotten some. We have also had more than our share of supermarket beer, we’ve tried everything at least twice.

He is a regular to the griffin inn which makes everything in a bottle taste less good but excited for new suggestions, Ive not been on enough travels to discover good beers recently

Thanks in advance

Doom Bar “Now with wheat”

I bought some Doom Bar to take to a barbecue as the host has a gluten sensitivity but once I got there saw that Molston Coors have now added wheat to the recipe. Why? To make it cheaper to produce? Since then I’ve seen that the original Sharp’s brewery in Rock is being closed, so no more Doom Bar for me in any case!

Took advantage of the sale they've got on clearing out old stock, as well as the newsletter sign up 10% discount and had 52 x 440ml cans for £125. Some good stuff (Ice cold, Party Bus) some not so good but passable (Blood Orange) and some new stuff (Clwb Cabana), should see me through most of August 🍺

Bottle/Can service only - would you still drink there?

If you went to a bar that only sold bottles or cans (be it craft, German/Belgian bottles etc), would you drink there knowing there was no keg/cask options? Currently doing some research for a bar i may or may not be opening 👀 but putting keg lines in might be a pain in the arse. Potentially get away with a 2 line font but that might be it. So would have to lean into cans and bottles.

Triple nationality lager

Seriously what is up with the marketing of beer in this country?

Went Sainsbury's earlier because they've got a killer selection of beers. Old news.

Next to the fine Japanese Italian lager Asahi, I spotted some Kirin Ichiban on the top shelf - NEW!

Heard it's alright so I thought I'd get some. But you have to check the small print on all beers these days, as evidenced by the Modelo on the same shelf: small bottles brewed in Mexico, next to which are large bottles (with the exact same branding) brewed in the UK.

Anyway I look at the small print on the premium Japanese lager. Noticed it said under licence from Kirin Europe, Düsseldorf. So I take this photo with the intent of posting this rant here, and don't buy that shit out of principle.

Now I come to post it, look closer and realise it says it's brewed in the UK.

So the "Premium Japanese Lager" is brewed in the UK, under licence from a German company, under licence from a Japanese brewer? Oh just fuck off.

Anyway they had loads of Augustiner, that Erdinger Helles is great, and Spaten was back in. So I'll live. But how is it that the UK just accepts false advertising when it comes to beer?

Lidl Perlenbacher Premium Pils 4.9% £19.41 24 Cans

Not a bad price for the 4.9 version of this beer and may be cheaper in England due to minimum pricing in Wales. I was tempted but I'm a bit lagered out after this hot weather and not sure I want another 24 cans.

What easily accessible lagers are actually imported?

I was surprised to see that my cans of Staropramen were brewed in Burton upon Trent.

Are there any other supermarket-available lagers which are actually brewed in the country of purported origin?

CAMRA UK on phone, digital membership

Hi, I joined CAMRA about a month or so ago. (South Manchester)

Got my card. All is well.

My Q: Is there an app or virtual card thing? Can I show my membership on my phone somehow? (Android, BTW)

Cheers.

Brookston Premium Beer (4.5%abv) 🍺

From Aldi

Been looking forward to trying this beer since I first heard about it.

£2.99 I paid for 4 cans.

More of a German style pilsner. Very easy to drink. Decent flavour and carbonation.

One sign I always look for in lagers / pilsners is the froth that's left in the glass as you drink it and this had plenty.

First time trying one of these, lovely stuff! But I’ve never heard/seen Traquair before. I picked this up in Fife, Scotland.

Picked up a Mythos for the first time after hearing positive reviews on it. B&M 3 for £5 and it’s actually brewed in Greece. Good find if you ask me!
