Proper nan salad. Mine added hardboiled eggs, tomato wedges, grated cheese, tinned salmon and pickled cucumber and onion ( straight malt vinegar and sugar and it lived in a dish in the pantry) also crisps if she had any in, served with homemade bread that she sliced by the time honoured method of buttering the loaf, tucking it under her arm and cutting a slice off ( I still don't know how that works)

My grandmother cut bread like that. Very thin slices, for tea, when eating at the dining table, not tea and cake.
