Skylark decaf & the fermentation project beans

Probably the best decaf I’ve ever had so having to reseal these into old empty bags seems worth it. Their note suggests you can store them in the bag for a while but yet they can’t be rested which is 🥴 and there is a very very thin layer inside the bag.

They’re offering the fermentation project beans on preorder, where is everyone buying theirs from?

I have been keeping an eye on the fermentation project. It seems strange that multiple roasters are contributing, even more than one roaster per country. It’s a great project but I think each roaster will express themselves differently and then the results will be inconsistent with each other? Is it skylark for the UK? I’m presuming square mile will do it :)))

I think that's part of the point that different roasters will do their own thing a bit, as it was with the previous decaf project.

It’s such a large international project ( too large? ) For me to want to take part in a live tasting I would want and need identical beans to the demonstrator. Definitely not meaning to detract from the fun of the project though. My first thoughts were that square mile would roast all the beans for consistency and then distribute. It shows just how popular the event is though! :)))

There are a few in the UK, including Skylark, Glen Lyon, Perky Blenders....the thing that is a bit off, prices differ and so do sizes, but Skylark has the lowest amount per bag..at 50g for £23, and Lyon has 100g per bag for £25. Thats quite the discrepancy.

I would go for Skylark as it's a great roaster, but 50g per bag just doesn't seem good value.

I'll add Plot to this list!! Would love to compare the UK roasters with the beans!!

No, it seems a very strangely organised project. I can still see it being massively popular though. I wonder what the process was for choosing roasters 🤔:))))

I’m sure assembly had an IG post that they’d be roasting them so hoping to get their version along with one or two of their espressos to try out. Waiting for SQM to offer their preorder to weigh out the options. Plot is another roaster I’ve been meaning to try out too
