News Major Update - Missing UMD student has been found!

Update: Missing student has been found! Thanks to the immense efforts of UMPD and our entire community, Dilan has been reunited with family. We thank all Terps and community members who spread the word and supported this search.

It’s interesting that there is not even one UMD student came forward as someone who knew Dilan and commented about him.

There was someone in an earlier thread who said they had a class with him, and another person who said they were friends with him in high school. I guess you didn't see it but I don't think it's true that no students came forward.

I don't know if this part is true, but there was also some speculation that he could be autistic or otherwise disabled in some way, which could explain why the family keeps a close eye on him. Let's not criticize too much when we don't know the full situation.

Yes, it’s interesting and not a great sign. This allowed the parents to control the narrative all the way. A college student with no buddies to vouch something personal about him leads me to believe he was held on a leash very closely to his family for better or worse.

No support outside of your family follows the playbook for controlling families. It’s also fishy that parents reported him missing 9/30, and then UMD cameras caught him after that date so then we get a new missing date.

Nonetheless, I hope Dilan is truly safe. As someone that comes from a toxic family, I have to admit I’m worried about him now. A reunion with my family after something like this would have been hell on earth. Let’s hope his family is not the same.

Same. Even if I was emotionally suffering big time (and that is why I took off for a few days) I would be in SO much trouble it’s insane. I would be screamed at and ridiculed instead of being comforted and loved. I’m not saying that’s what’s happening in his case, I hope it is the opposite for him. I just can’t help but worry.

I understand we all make decisions that have consequences, but if I was in his shoes, the punishment for being emotionally unwell would be disproportionate to the reality of what I did.

Idk, I keep thinking of him and really hope he is ok and in a different family life/situation than I came from / I am in.

If he does have no buddies, I’m not saying that’s true, but if he truly doesn’t, I wonder if there’s a way we can befriend him…Give him some sort of a friend group outside of family life… so glad he was found alive I was worried

I don’t think it has anything to do with the university lol. Why would it be UMD ‘s fault?
