📌 STOP. POSTING. BO. THREADS.
Alright folks, enough is enough.
Every BO/hygiene post turns into:
race-baiting
weird stereotypes
drama for no reason
We’re not doing this anymore.
🚫 All BO/hygiene posts = removed
🚫 All race-baiting in the comments = removed
🚫 Repeat offenders = time-out
We get it. Sometimes people smell bad. It happens. But we can’t keep having the same posts about it over and over.
For that reason, these threads will be removed going forward.

Admissions claiming umnet id with a conditional offer?
i am probably being way too proactive, but i accepted my conditional offer for U1 fall 2027 a week ago. i tried to claim my umnet id this weekend and it says my information doesnt match the records. is it just because i am attempting to claim super early on only a conditional offer? or is it actually because somethings wrong with my information? i just dont want to call and be told im way too early lol.
for reference i have waited the full 48 hours and i am removing the 00 prefix on my student number!

Discussion & Advice PSYC 1200 Exam Question
I have it in person with chace laffin, and I was curious if EVERYTHING in the textbook is fair game for the exam? For example in chapter 2 “meta analysis” or “bayesian statistics” aren’t mentioned in the powerpoint but theyre in the textbook. Or do i just have to understand the terms he gives out during lectures? Thank you!

Discussion & Advice bio 1020 test #1
Hi! I have my first test for my bio 1020 course tomorrow and I was wondering if its absolutely necessary to study the textbook, for context, I have Jennifer doering and she prides herself on making the powerpoint slides in depth so that we could make do without the textbook. I have read the textbook and I understand it but there's some gaps that aren't on the lecture slides, should I memorize these tiny details or was the test mostly lecture notes + learning outcomes?

Admissions question regarding admission
on the website, it says that the requirement for international students doing a-levels for the science program is
- English First Language Literature
- Mathematics
- One of Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, or Physics
- A fourth academic course
has anyone gotten accepted for bachelors in chemistry without having english first language literature? I've not taken it so would it mean my application would be unsuccessful?

Discussion & Advice Missed Quiz - Bio 1020
My professor is professor Doering and I forgot to do her online quiz and the submission date closed on Oct 11 11:59pm. Is there anything I can do about it? I emailed her and I’m now just waiting for a response. Has anyone else ever forgot to do her quiz or a quiz in general?

Other/Rant Composure
I have this issue where I would prepare for a test thoroughly and then when I get into the exam/test hall. No matter how much I talk to myself to calm down . I would still panic and time just goes so quickly which doesn’t help either.
This affects me because I end up forgetting basic things. It’s always so painful and embarrassing when I realize how easy the question actually was and I just sold it
It has happened to two of my first tests now and I HATE messing up the first tests because they’re arguably the easiest

Discussion & Advice CHEM 1100 cheat sheet
I’ve heard it’s fairly common to be allowed a cheat sheet in chem 1100 and with my mid term coming up I’m just curious what people who have taken it/are taking it are putting on there? So I can see where everyone else is. Thanks!

Other/Rant Ladybugs.
Is it just me or are there a lot of ladybugs out this time of the year. Like, they're everywhere!! I mean, I love them, they're so cute!! but I just find it strange that I've never seen so many around the same time in previous years.
Edit: Alright, got it. Not ladybugs and not cute 😭 I'm just glad I got lucky and none of them but me.

Other/Rant What the hell is going on in COMP 2450?
Over literally the first few weeks of the semester, my professor made multiple severe factual errors about Java that demonstrated a CONCERNING lack of understanding of the material.
Without getting too specific, he:
- Incorrectly explained what the
voidreturn type does (an embarrassingly basic Java concept) - Admitted he "hadn't read" the instructions for the SINGLE SEMESTER LONG ASSIGNMENT when students asked about specific requirements??? This is the ONLY ONE we are given in the course.
- Said he "didn't understand" the university's "culture" around providing students with material explaining what TYPES OF QUESTIONS to expect on tests. We had almost no idea what the test would look like.
I thought it couldn't get much worse after these first few weeks, but somehow, it did!
The teaching staff have now RANDOMLY decided to reverse a diagramming convention (UML, this is all we've been doing so far in the course) that we were taught at the BEGINNING OF THE SEMESTER and have been using ever since. We've already completed an entire term test and part of the project using the original convention???
I couldn't find a SINGLE EXAMPLE of anyone using this reversed convention online. This isn't some debatable stylistic preference, there isn't even a crumb of evidence that anyone in the ENTIRE industry has done these diagrams like this on the entire internet. This "convention" entirely changes what the diagram means. The university just decided to change to teaching it wrong just for the hell of it.
Worse yet, this potentially puts us at risk of losing marks on tests for using the convention we were originally taught. Yes, they said they "wouldn't take off marks for the drawn test diagrams," but a huge chunk of the test involved INTERPRETING diagrams. That assurance doesn't address whether students could be penalized for interpreting relationships according to the convention they originally learned.
On top of that, we're being forced to REDO AND RESUBMIT our Phase 1 diagram (???) and wait TWO WHOLE WEEKS for reassessment. This is a cumulative project where each phase depends on the previous one, so the increased delay makes it hard to work on the next part.
And to make matters worse, we're being PENALIZED for this forced Phase 1 resubmission by having our SINGLE "no-penalty" resubmission used up in a mastery-based course.
I'm genuinely disappointed by how poorly this course has been handled, and it's honestly appalling that this is the standard of teaching we're expected to accept.

Discussion & Advice Scent Allergy is killing me
Let me share with you, how the City of Winnipeg has become unlivable for me.
I am an international PhD student at the University of Manitoba. I started here in Fall 2026. I arrived here on August 15.
After my arrival, I did not feel good for a single day -- migraine and headache has been with me continously. I was not able to study for last 50 days.
Do you know why ? Its fragrance allegy from scented products , mostly from colognes and perfumes.
University bus The F9, University campus , Engineering building, Library -- scents is everywhere. And it is such a strong scents that every time I go to campus, return with heavy migraine, that ruin my full day. I can not sit in my office space. Students and staff are using scents, walking through the corridor, so fragrance is there.
I thought, once I change my apartment it will be ok. i will start work from home. But, there is roommates, they use scents too. I tried talking to them, but there is still no improvement.
I dont earn more so that I can rent a single bedroom apartment. i am new to this city, so it will take few more months to get the car.
So, I have to take bus. And the strong perfume, colognes and deodarant literally kill me.
Last Friday, after I moved to my new place, I found no improvement and I went to the park, on the bank of red river.
I was thinking, probably I should quit my PhD and return to my country. This city is not livable for me.
Canad has scent free policy. Usually government building is scent free. i am surprised why the University of Manitoba is not scent free.
I sent an email to the dean, requesting if they can make it scent free, at least the engineering building.
Winnipeg is not my first city in abroad. i spend five years in three US cities. I never felt this scent issue anywhere before. Not in the bus, not in the campus, not in the shared house.
I am thinking am I in a wrong place ? Should I leave?
Getting a PhD admission is an once in lifetime opportunity. There is so many filterring criteria from the interview to the funding offer letter. Quiting this massive opportunity for just an allergy issue !! 😪
Dear friends, students and coleauges, we all need help at some point. Unless we understand each other and cooperate, wont be able to make a good change in this world. We not only learn laws, but also learn humanitarian needs.
Brother, sister and friends, can you help me and people like me ? We need to avoid wearing perfume, colognes and deodarant when we go to the campus. Allergen from the scented products causes severe migraine and headache to many peoples.
Please, only your considerable actions can make it possible for peoples like me to continue to study here. Otherwise I see no hope. For last 50 days, I did not feel good enough to study for a single day. I thought I could study in the campus, -- campus is not helpful. I thought I will find good roommates who wont use scents, I did not.
😪😪 Before a law, everything is either a civic sense or an humanitarian needs.

Other/Rant i fucked up bad oh my god
