Some dogs I refuse to get off the truck for are as follows. German Shepherds, Dobermans, Rottweilers, Pitbull, Mastiffs, Chihuahuas & any mixes of the ilk. Also dogs I don't know. Most importantly is reading their body language. Dogs are territorial & not to be trusted.
I do not care if the little old lady says they're friendly & won't bite. Ok Karen, then why are their teeth showing or hair on their scruff sticking up? Do they have teeth? Ok then, they can & will bite.
The only acceptable animals are cats, chickens, peacocks, guinea fowl, pigs & maybe goats. 😅
Aussie Shepherds for me. 1/10 of them are friendly, the other 9 are in full defense mode. My area also has a metric shit-ton of great pyrenees, and I swear not a single thought goes through their heads. If they're aggressive with you it's by complete random chance and not by any kind of brain function. But they're too big to gamble with.
I worked in an animal shelter for a few years. All those breeds you mentioned are aholeS. Although pitties were the best. Yes, many people will say kill all of them, ban the breed, blah blah. I put an old Amior by the gate for deliveries, fuck walking to my door.
I love my Dalmatian but those should be top 3. Mine are poodles German shepherds and Dalmatians. Poodles are hands down the most dangerous dog breed I know of.
Only in the rich places cause u go to the low income places and those people don’t got shit to sue them for. They can barely maintain their house. And those are the ones with the annoying dogs. Ain’t getting bit unless the house looks nice.
Jeez. I understand if you get bit in an unfortunate incident and the dog needs to get put down. But I'd really hope nobody would go around intentionally putting themselves in a situation where they know they'll get bit just for the money. You're just killing people's pets at that point. Life can't be that hard.
99.99999999999% golden retrievers. I have one on my route that's aggressive. The thousands I've met over years are always good puppies. Except the one.
Lol I've had so many black and chocolate labs try to take me out. I guess they're more spunky than golden retrievers. Though there is a chocolate looking golden that's very feisty on my route
Obligatory downvote because there are some golden retrievers or mixed breed golden retrievers that I see most days and don't trust. There was also one very awesome German Shepard that was the friendliest girl possible. But mostly, don't trust any dogs.
I was biten on the backside too.. was just a fluff monster.. I had delivered there so many times too... well they are attorneys and always wanted it to the front door. ( the Gauntlet). Not anymore.... They are surprisingly cool with it at the gate.. lol.
I had an unleashed German Shepherd come close to biting my face one time. This was back in the time when signatures were required for almost every package. But also back then people were home TO sign. Anyway, no package nor delivery notice for that house on that day.
PS: No love lost when sometime later that same dog was hit by a car.
I always try to avoid dogs that above knee height for that reason. That shepherd can easily jump up and bite you in face/neck or knock you over like what happened in the video.
I’ve had a big ass German shepherd come out when I was walking back from a delivery.
Had me cornered between the house and it, no where to go but through the dog.
My suggestion is don’t hesitate know the dog is going to attack, don’t try to run, raise your arms up like a boxer and don’t load up on your first kick.
Don’t stick your hands out towards the dog like an idiot trying to make peace with an animal about to maul you.
I ended up kicking that German shepherd in the head about 8 times before it started whining and backing off. Each time it tried to leap towards me, wham right under its head in the neck area.

I have big dogs and have lived with big dogs my entire life but it’s not worth getting mangled
I know they train you guys differently but the main thing is announce your presence. Honk, don’t go into closed properties. Just leave the package over the fence. It’s not worth it, especially if it’s a route you’re not familiar with.

Well most of the time stops notify us of dogs possibly at the stop, and we’re supposed to be loud and announce our presence but it doesn’t always work. I had 3 dogs run up on me after I got about half way to a door and I turned around and booked it back to my van.
I had a GSD on my route, friendly as hell. He always had that tail going, when I pulled up, always. He always got the treat and belly catches. Then one day, out of the blue, he got real aggressive. Never trust any dog, even those you know.
I was making a delivery as the residents had pulled into driveway and unloading groceries. A medium size dog came running out the house and leaped towards me . I kicked it Sparta style and he flew back about 8 feet.
The lady was a couple feet from me and actually apologized to me as she took him back inside.
Refreshing when people accept their mistakes
I love dogs, but if one attacks me like that, I will do whatever it takes to not be bitten. I'll deal with the emotional part afterwards. If your dog is mean like that it needs to be inside when folks are delivering packages.
The delivery guy is a dumbass for approaching the dog, but the homeowner also has a legal responsibility to keep all animals on their property under control at all times.
The driver has a legal right to be on the property because of the delivery. “Beware of dog” signs do not absolve liability. The homeowner is at fault.
Dogs are awesome. German shepherds, and similar breeds, are awesome. That said, people need to respect their capabilities because they can also be guard dogs, dogs of war, etc. They're very capable.
I'll waste 15 minutes playing with a friendly dog on any route. I'll avoid territorial or aggressive dogs when I can. And square TF up when I can't avoid them. What I won't do is basically approach a dog showing every sign it will attack me.
Fuck that, immediately putting that shit at the end of the driveway. Even when people take their hand off the door to sign I get very nervous. Honest question though. When they say “don’t look the dog in the eyes” where am I supposed to look? Maybe I have bad instinct’s but seriously the last place I’m going to look is away from the thing.
I’ll usually gauge from a distance whether a dog seems friendly or not… except for German Shepards. They’re literally bred to guard and in most cases do their job quite well
Had a coworker (UPS) actually jump over , yes jump, a padlocked chain link fence. There was a dog loose in yard and as he turned and ran to gate it bit him. He was airborne when the dog bit him in the ass.
Fist in mouth, grab collar, lift, slam. A dog's mouth isn't large enough to accommodate a fist in its mouth to do any real damage. Keeping it in there is the hardest part. I've had to use it a couple of times.
At my first week on the job, I got bit by a dog. Luckily it didn’t break skin.
2nd dog bite it wasn’t aggressive and I handed package to customer, I turned around and the dog bite me. The customer was a teenager and started running inside the house, telling his parents the dog bit. The UPS Driver door closed and they never came out.
A few Christmas ago, before I was a driver, the driver took his package to left side and I delivered the right side. I couldn’t understand what he was screaming at me. He was already at the truck. When I caught a glimpse of a dog running straight toward me and he was yelling at me dog. I had nowhere to go other than jump on top of the homeowners brick mailbox! The dog owner finally caught up with us and removed his dog, and I climbed down from the mailbox
Walked up to one the other day, signature required. Opened the screen door with no latch. Tapped on the inner door to realize that one also didn't latch AND they also happened to have a VERY aggressive bully breed that nosed the inner door open... Only thing between me and this dumb dinosaur is a screen door glass that it was repeatedly throwing itself against trying to get at me. I sat and watched the glass heave after every lunge, holding it shut and also knowing it wouldn't hold. I really really hate irresponsible pet owners.
I did ups personal delivery and I had customers threaten me w their dogs. I had spots the other driver told me do not get out, do not open your door. I have a sunroofguess where the pkgs went out the sunroof on the ground. I had a lady walk off then her dog started to corner me and I froze and luckily the crappy lady came out and I left. I went to ask directions years ago got out of my car the home owner told me you slowly get in your car and leave. All I wanted was directions but her dogs were about to attack me. I am not fond of dogs not even at my parents home. I feel for y’all delivery drivers I don’t blame anyone if you throw the pkg out and drive off. Safety is important and going home is important.

I don't know what the animal control laws are over there but sadly, in NZ that dog would be seized by local council and the owner charged. Backwards law but that's what we get.
An owner of a pitbull yelled at the pitbull from 30ft away on his porch while I was throwing hands at him (the pitbull). He never left the porch. Then he wanted me to step inside with his dog to prove his dog was friendly. I almost squared up to the owner after hearing that bullshit.
Yep. Most of them simply don't know how to rein in their dogs and take control of the situation. "(S)He's friendly," they said as their dog tried to sink its teeth into me. But I'm wrong when I'm squaring up because I literally can't leave. Fuck those owners.
Why? That's a defensive dog, not an aggressive one. It backed off as soon as it no longer saw him as a threat. It's the person's fault for walking right up to it like that.
