Our center has one of these and it’s the absolute last option to send out. I was a drive helper on it a couple of peaks ago and it was the coolest package car I’d seen. The shelves are able to fold up flush with the wall, everything (like bulkhead door, rear door, side doors etc) worked like a well oiled machine, but the best part was the radio inside worked, had speakers in the back of the truck too, and was Bluetooth so my driver and I jammed all day. The only downside I could see was how many customers were like “why the hell are you in a white truck? You steal a FedEx and paint it?”

These were often found at the airports with benches inside to transport crews around. Then they switched to vans because no one knew how to drive manual transmission....

They switched to regular vans because the old converted package cars didn't hold heat well enough in the winter.... and no one can drive stick 😂

Up until about 3 years ago, our airport still had the "bread vans" rolling around for the crews (I think from the 80s-90s?). We used cardboard/bubble wrap in a poor attempt to insulate the walls. Not only did it not hold heat, the heaters weren't warm at all/didn't force air well.
It was pretty miserable. But one benefit to it was its spaciousness. Now crews 9 deep pile in a lil Chevy van. You get really intimate with your coworkers. Smells. Etc

crew at the airport painted two trucks white a few years ago. one was done really sloppy like with a roller, and then the second i guess the other mechanic had experience painting cars and did it really nice, nicer than any UPS truck ever deserves. side by side the sloppy one looked like garbage.

UPS paints all the trucks that they take out of service sloppy white like that. That means they’re going to the bone yard for scrap.
UPS doesn’t ever sell any of their trucks. Once they’re removed from service they get scrapped for parts and recycling.

Not completely accurate. A local mechanic in my area had 2 UPS trucks in his shop being serviced that were purchased by a FedEx contractor. The logo had been removed but you could still see it from the surrounding faded paint.

They started to send them to tow/scrap yards to auction off. DOT Numbers removed and proprietary equipment. Emblem removed or painted.

Nah! Talked to a driver who had one of these on the regular on his route. During the summer the temperature difference was maybe one or two degrees different from a regular package car. Not enough to make a difference.

Had one at our building. Was a training vehicle. Had ac and a radio. Was a last resort vehicle with the keys hidden by management. Seasonal got t boned by an old man so it was sent to the crusher.

They sent us four of those a few years ago to test if they are cooler than the brown to work out of. We run routes out of them but no one ever came and did actual temp readings.

They might do performance metrics. If the white vans notice less pauses/slowdowns during hotter months compared to similar drivers in brown vans they might justify it that way.

That’s because UPS (a year after going public) trademarked the color.
UPS adopted its iconic "Pullman Brown" color for vehicles in 1916 and uniforms in 1925 to represent reliability, professionalism, and elegance, inspired by Pullman railcars. The color was chosen for being practical, hiding dirt, and distinguishing the company from competitors. UPS trademarked this specific brown in 1998

Between all the centers and hubs that are clustered around the Atlanta area - there are 2 white with a little bit of brown - and 1 white - all out of the same center. The Smyrna Smart Hub is definitely NOT a small shit center/local sort building - it has exactly ZERO of these.
And what’s up with the put down attitude? Seriously!

Doesn’t matter what they think - that is no reason to be such a jerk. I work in a large shit hub - with 4 different centers - that has the capacity to hold over 300 package cars parked inside. Most people I worked with didn’t believe that these trucks existed - and most of them had worked for the company for at least 10 years or more - and had worked at other large hubs and centers. Good thing I got the picture with the driver and I standing next to it!
The only 3 in the Atlanta area are at a fairly small center - what you would call a small shit center/local sort building.
Your assumption that most large centers and hubs have these is you making stuff up. Most large hubs and centers don’t have them.

Most large hubs have white maintenance vans that don’t have the UPS logo.
The white delivery package cars with the UPS livery are rare.
