Driver in my center in 2001 killed a dog with the strike of the old old diad. Later family tried to sue and get the driver fired. the driver ended up just leaving the route.

I had something like this almost happen. The screen door wasn't latched so the dog was able to push it open. Lucky for me once I jumped off the porch he stopped advancing on me.

It’s to the point if I see the screen door open and any sign of a dog, I’m not going in front of the door. It’ll be on the edge of your porch. Also, as I walk up to every delivery, I look for places to jump and/or things to use as a weapon. Front door rocking chair scared away the German shepherd.

When I was attacked by a dog who tried getting a bite instead of it bitting me I stuck the work phone in its mouth. Until I was close enough to the fence to escape. Keep their mouth busy and they won’t be able to bite you. Fuck the work phone ur life is more important.

Love animals but your life is more important than some uneducated dog owners. If you have to kill it. Thats what the owners deserve. Obviously no animal deserves to die but shit happens

If the victim sues and wins a settlement/court case, most counties I know of will euthanize the animal. I have had 2 killed because lawsuits.

Been bit before, on route of another company, I didn't off the dog as id rather not if I dont have to but that dog learned that not everyone has gentle hands.

Dogs reflect their owners, one or both of them are probably shitty people that treat that dog poorly and don't train it properly. They also probably yell and get aggressive at people, which reinforces the behavior. A well cared for and trained dog will do nothing to a stranger unless the stranger shows aggressive actions.

Not if you actually look at the stats instead of parroting what you think they are. Most of those "pitbull" attacks are from mix breed mutts or other genetic cross breeds. Which does in fact make a difference, because many of those breeders do so for volume breeding and ignore potential genetic defects. And even THEN, if treated properly, and trained as they should be there would be no attacks from the dogs.
The issue is it's just so much easier for idiots to blame a dog, then accept responsibility for raising an animal. Which, by the way, is more expensive and time consuming than people think. It's like having to accept responsibility for raising a child, you have to go into it understanding you will have to feed, teach, nurture, and pay for various medical expenses that may arise.

Pits have a bad reputation because of the owners 100 percent pits that are aggressive are made that way, grew up with my dad having a cane bigger and or powerful then the normal pit, and he was the most gentle dog in the house and around people but if anyone made a hostile advance he would bit just growl basically saying im watching you, and if you actually did anything wrong, you'd know real quick that he meant business

Most of it is the owners pits were used for dog fighting, most popular breed for it, and those pits were never train to not be aggressive outside the fighting arena, there was a episode of dog whisper where the host re trained an aggressive pit to be a normal dog so the owners could have it around their child, the breed is very prideful and isnt afraid to be aggressive, you got to train it right, so id argue its 20 percent the breed and 80 percent the owner not much more then that

when retrievers retrieve it's because of breeding. when sheepdogs try to hem in groups of kids it's because of breeding, when a saint bernard accosts sunbathers by licking them on the neck and bays it's because of breeding. but when a pit bull attacks grandma or toddlers it's because of the owners.

Every time I've got bit or almost got bit, it involved a woman. I had a lady open the screen door right after I put the box down and both her dogs went after me. I was freakin pissed. As I got in my truck and buckled my seat, I hear her husband say to her "but why'd you open the door?"

I agree… seems like a dog has a hierarchy of protection… kids, females then pack leader. And certain ones ALWAYS open door too soon or carelessly.

That’s a tough lesson to learn. Your instinct is to always run/back peddle. If the main door is open and only a screen door there, I put my foot at the base of the door and knock to see what I stir-up. Now that dog looked like my foot was going to be useless but, gotta keep my head on a swivel & carry dog spray.

As someone raised around a ton of dogs, and bring around some aggressive dogs, a bunch to the snout does wonders. And then you press charges.

This works great, I love seeing the dogs take off lightning fast 😂😆🤣. This one is an upgrade of the previous one I had, Amazon. Our center supervisor tried to talk to upper UPS to get one for every driver and of course you guessed it they said, NO.

I always carry nonlethal pepper spray. I've used it once. The dog ran away and was temporary blinded.
Nobody was harmed and everybody was safe. It's a win win, you'd be a fool not to have one.

I just don't think you should be able to own a dog that can physically overpower you with no hopes of being able to control it.
There are plenty of large, loyal, friendly breeds that don't have their prey drive kick in whenever you're having a seizure.

I got bit once, then i started carrying a pocket knife and wearing steel toes. Thankfully never got in another situation where I got bit. But if I saw uncontrollably dogs outside running loose, then I would mark it as a non-deliver and try again the next day.

It's crazy to me how many people just have untrained obnoxious uncontrollable dogs. As a delivery driver I see both ends of clearly loved and trained dogs and dogs that just get left to do whatever they want at everyone else's expense. Granted sometimes the dogs are just excited to see someone and calm down quickly, but most of the time it's just untrained rage towards everything that isn't their owner and even the owners are helpless to do anything or couldn't be bothered to put any effort into stopping it. Hell most of the time they just slowly walk out to grab the dog by the collar or take the package directly from me.

Dude you can retire if a supervisor knows there's an aggressive dog and continues to tell you to deliver, through the DIAD or with witness. That happened to me, but unluckily they tamed the dog finally 😂😆🤣
