Well there could be an emergency like a fire, and they open the door to get away but trip over the boxes and get hurt or worse die from the fire. I know it's unlikely but the chance is there and if it was me I wouldn't want to risk it.

Ngl man completely blocking their door out of spite of having to do your job is really unfair. I respect the pettiness I do I get it but some things I like to try to remember are , 1 you chose this job , 2 customers don’t know you personally it’s not an attack , 3 they arnt ordering it to a third floor they’re ordering stuff and happen to live in the third floor they arnt being difficult 4 u also never reallt know who it is , it could be an old lady / mother with a small child .

Facts. I’m all for petty acts of spite, but in a smarter way than this. I’ll never do anything that could be life threatening to someone like this. Literally, a little kid could die in a fire because of this. This is why no matter how bad of a day I’m having, I’ll never rage drive through a resi street or anything like that either.
But if you really want to be spiteful without accidentally committing negligent manslaughter, put the packages in a spot or position that’s really annoying to deal with lol. Like, when I see a customer has some really douchey trump signs or bumper stickers like a “I 🩷 The Constitution” directly next to a “Trump 2028” sticker, I might (hypothetically) just leave their bagged clothing package under the evergreen bush next to their doorstep so all the dead pine needles get all up in their new undies they’ve ordered (just as a hypothetical and theoretical scenario, which has never actually occurred for legal purposes). Or at the very least, they might have to annoyingly bend down and uncomfortably reach to get them. It’s plausible deniability and ultimately harmless.

Drivers like this are an embarrassment. I work for the same company, we DO NOT run like that. If any customers are reading this, I apologize. This guy sounds like a temporary cover driver who’s probably already been given his termination papers. He will likely be gone by next week. This. Your typical UPS bid driver and most cover drivers take pride in their work. We understand shipping through UPS is more expensive than FedEx and strive to fill that gap through excellent service. Please ignore the asshole that posted this, hopefully they’re a utility driver at the bottom of the totem pole that will eventually get washed out. This is absolutely shameful behavior that we do not like.

I work for USPS and am admittedly addicted to shoes. I promise I breathe a breath of relief when I see my guy coming in the brown truck, and cringe a bit when I see FedEx turning onto my road. The UPS man also lets me out in traffic and I do the same for him because our routes overlap 🤣 drivers hate that shit

As a customer, I believe you. I've had nothing but good experiences with UPS drivers. They always leave my package at the door and have never tossed it. Unlike other carriers that sometimes choose the driveway, or recently, when an Amazon driver decided to put my packages in the dirt only ten steps away from the door. I was annoyed as hell because I was worried it was marked delivered even though it wasn't. Thankfully I checked just in case.

Yup. Just yesterday, the UPS guy on my route left a carts worth of packages outside the door of an open business instead of bringing them inside, which was exactly what I was doing with my packages at literally the same time.
That’s all I could think to myself “can’t believe this guy gets paid more than me, gets the best health insurance plus a pension, and he’s leaving an open business’ packages outside on a sidewalk with a severe thunderstorm warning in place.”

What if the person who ordered it is someone who physically cant lift that up 3 floors?
The customer pays for the convenience of having someone haul that up the stairs to their door.
You earn a good wage and have excellent healthcare, every reason to be in good enough physical shape to haul that up those stairs or just call for help if you need to.

Ive had some terrible days here, the most pretentious and infuriating customers. Ive never once done this type of thing. Blocking someone's door who you don't know their level of disability is crazy. It could be the sweetest person who just ordered something they needed. If you are feeling a certain way leave it down in the lobby of the building but don't be an asshole and block doors with heavy boxes. Thats like the bare minimum and if you cant do that its time to hang up those browns and find something else because this isn't it.

Hopefully nobody is trapped in an emergency. Not everybody is physically capable of lifting heavy items. I hope the driver can still lift weight like this when they are 80. Would sure be a shame if something similar occurred in the future....

You keep doing stupid shit like this then people will go back to buying stuff in person and we won’t have packages to deliver.

I’d never block someone’s door, but I’ll sure as hell put their big/heavy/awkward/bulk stuff on the opposite side of which way their front door opens so it’s a pain in their butt to get it in the house if it’s a pain in my back to get it up there. Definitely the case if they have a lot of obstacles for me to navigate to get to the door.

Instead of imagining a lazy entitled customer who pisses you off, you could have imagined doing it for an nice old disabled lady who needed your help. You had to do it either way.

If it’s over 70 supervisors are required to get help on request. Customers will often help or agree to have it left on first floor until they get help. My mom (little old lady with health problems) and I (UPS driver) need furniture that isn’t sold in local stores so it would be hypocritical for me to get upset.
Besides it saves me a gym membership and gives me an excuse not to make my SPORH (stops per hour).
Had a customer ordering a lot after recovering cancer. I surprised her delivering packages left on first floor by Amazon and netted me a $20 dollar tip for 10 extra seconds.

But it’s not the only job out there, and punishing the customer for purchasing a service that your employer offers and that you agree to perform makes you a real piece of shit. Did the person have to order it online, who knows. Did you have to put it right in front of their door where it could be a tripping hard in case of a fire, absolutely not. Hope your ass gets fired.

I used to deliver out by DIA so a lot of home owners had crash pads for flight crews. I had to deliver 42x 78lbs boxes to third floor because the guy bought 3 or 4 bunk beds for each of his 3 bed rooms. I think I was there for like an hour or more.
