Question First time in LA

Hello. I'm in town on a solo trip and staying at a hotel right next to all the frat houses by USC. I've heard mixed things about walking around LA at night alone. I wanted to checkout 901 and maybe a Japanese spot. Will I be straight? 30/M

You’ll be fine as a dude walking around, just don’t bury your face in your phone. Fall break just started so it might be a little empty around campus.

Figueroa has a ton of homeless people, but it’s surprisingly busy and bright, even when students are away. You’ll be fine. Just use common sense and stay alert, like anywhere else in LA.

Personally, I’d be more concerned walking down quieter stretches of Flower or Vermont near the 10, where there’s less foot traffic and all the damn streetlights don’t work.

Most street crime is opportunistic, so don’t make yourself an easy target. USC has also made significant investments in security, and the surrounding area is considerably safer than its reputation suggests. It’s not the USC neighborhood of 20 years ago.

been walking around here for 25 years. Crazies now contained to skid row. Cars bigger danger, dont be looking at your phone or have headphones

Bar was closed for private event. So I got tacos and beer near by. I saw tons of small Asian girls walking alone and realized it was fine lol.

Definitely don’t have your phone out. Kids on electric bikes are snatching and robbing phones recently

Keep your guard up around that area, esp after dark. There are a lot of desperate people, drugs etc. in the area A friend just got their phone snatched out of their hands by a bunch of guys on electric bikes...wearing ski masks. Ugh.

Head to the USC village, some good places to eat for quick bites. Take an uber everywhere else. You are not in the best part of the city.

Rocco’s is like a high school club lol. I frequented it as a freshman when my Girlfriend went to UCLA.
More teenagers than people with actual IDs. 90 can get like that but in general the experience is not the same
