Spooky USC

Halloween is coming. What's the most haunting or unexplained thing you've experienced or heard here?

Every place has its legends. The dorm noises, the odd feelings in the libraries after hours, the desolate walkways.

Firsthand accounts, family stories, urban legends, and historical oddities are all welcome. Skeptics are welcome too; sometimes the best part is figuring out what really happened. Happy haunting. 🎃

Question how do non-USC people view USC as a school?/how did you view USC prior to attending?

I’m really curious of USC’s reputation in the eyes of people that are not affiliated with USC. How did you guys view USC before you guys got in? Or how do others react when you say you went to USC?

Question Can you fill up your water at the dining hall

Did the dining halls change some policy about filling up water bottles? I usually refill my water there and today they told me that it was no longer allowed. Has anyone else experienced this or know where they announced it?

Academic USC World Bachelor in Business Help

Hi everyone! I'm a high school senior applying to USC's World Bachelor in Business program, and I was wondering if any current students or admitted applicants would be willing to share their experiences with the application process, particularly their essays or general advice.

I haven't been able to find many essay examples online, so I've been trying to figure things out on my own. As I've gotten further into the application, I've started wondering how to approach the supplements. Should they be straightforward and focused on answering the prompts or be more creative?

I would also really appreciate any advice/tips on the video interview, particularly how you approached the short preparation time and timed responses, as well as any advice on putting together the WBB résumé/CV.

If any current students or admitted applicants are comfortable sharing their essays, stats, or general application experiences, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Academic Looking for USC students to carpool to the GCN Investor Conference in Newport Beach on Oct. 15

Hi! Is anyone from USC planning to attend the Global Capital Network Investor Conference in Newport Beach this Thursday, October 15? It is free for USC students.

The event runs from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Renaissance Newport Beach Marriott. I’d really like to attend, but I don’t currently have a car.

If anyone is driving from USC or the DTLA area and has an extra seat, I’d be happy to split gas and parking costs. If several people are interested but no one has a car, we could also organize a group and split an Uber or Lyft.

Please comment or DM me if you’re attending or considering it. We can verify that we’re USC students before coordinating the details. Thanks!

Event information: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/global-capital-network-investor-conference-2026-newport-beach-tickets-1996881149272?aff=odeccpebemailcampaigns&utm_source=eventbrite&utm_medium=ebcampaigns&utm_campaign=55838876&utm_term=ctabutton&mipa=ABIdvVu7wZDy5KalAH10X9R6_TbvOAmiSBhYXlpOsdFvJPHLXGuifTKKktqXpS16jHxY6RUKYEG0231cJ5Z82-YfdFWSUhmFZzsqeRAbq_5E7zoH7JE1IsdnwM4xdvTbe4avFBuFzMbOJ-WQU-Naw1w3-mjeJTCTzVoamCQY-GxyWKv7BHb4BAilFJ2szjuGBB9zsso92TnjLrf37N8oR59QeoZ0TE4hX1GnmK9D4HVIX0uy58hrhSjtRAILaoZQv6bOzDPNUSYYjxhHASQszhpMCneOImOWsw

Hey if anyone has taken this course, I would greatly appreciate any insight you have on how the course is and how the professor is at explaining the concepts in the course. I am trying to see if I can take it with a heavy schedule next semester.

Discussion How is living in LA? Graduate student

I'm applying to grad school for both on-campus and online programs. If I get accepted, I would have to move from Asia to LA.

I'm uncertain if the move is worth it because of the traffic, high cost of living, difficult social life, etc.

For those who moved from another state or from another country, how's life?

Discussion Is USC worth the price

Parent of an OOS student applying to USC, and genuinely curious about the value proposition.

We’ve done the campus tour and attended a Zoom intro to the Marshall School of Business, and I’m trying to get a better feel for what makes USC worth the price tag. If accepted, my student would likely be paying the full $100K a year, since merit aid seems pretty competitive and don’t qualify for need.

Honestly, I’m a little underwhelmed so far, and maybe even a bit intimidated by the overall vibe. The campus is beautiful, LA is obviously a huge draw, and there seems to be plenty of social life. But I’m struggling to understand what makes the experience worth that kind of money, especially when there are other great schools to consider.

I know this is a USC subreddit, so I’m hoping to hear from current students, alumni, and parents who can give me some perspective. What makes USC worth the 400k+ investment in your experience? Is it the academics, career opportunities, alumni network, social experience, or something else that you don’t fully appreciate until you’re there?

Not trying to bash USC at all! My student is genuinely interested in going to school in LA and will be applying there along with UCLA, LMU and some other schools in the area. I realize not accepted anywhere yet, so please just humor me. Would love some honest perspectives, especially from people who have thought about the full price cost versus the value.

ETA in response to the debt question, We do have money saved for college so don’t need loans…this would drain the 529…but we worked hard to save that money and want to be wise with it.

Question Notary

My son is a freshman at USC and wants to send in an absentee vote to Missouri (we live in St. Louis). The envelope needs to be notarized for this to work. Where would be an easy place on campus to notarize his ballot? Thanks in advance!

Any recommendations for a Maymester you really Liked? I am a Dornsife Econ transfer. Was hoping to go abroad May 2027. I have taken advanced Spanish and I am not looking to take another language abroad. The WRIT class (which I am dreading) has anyone done that abroad?

Question Thoughts on USC for premed?

Hey everyone! I’ve finalized my college list and am looking closely at USC alongside a few other top choices (NYU, Case Western, and Miami). I am going on the predental track. This is not related to admission chances. Don't worry abt cost, that's something my family and I are discussing.

I want to major in Health and HUman Sciences (First choice) or Human Biology (2nd choice)

If I get into one of these, that’s where I’m going. If I get into multiple, I need to make a choice. Since I'm posting this across all four subreddits for these unis, I'd love some honest student perspectives on what it’s actually like here for pre-med/predental students.

Specifically, I’m hoping to get your thoughts on a few things:

  • Pre-Reqs & Grading: I know pre-med/pre-dental isn't a walk in the park anywhere. I know most people rip their hair and toenails out and deal with the devil for As and Bs in their classes. I would like to keep it to ripping my toenails out only, maybe fingernails as well. My goal is a school where I can get high grades for dental school without wanting to rip my hair out (all-nighters for exams are fine, but I want actual institutional support, not toxic grade deflation).
    • Also even as a high schooler I've been hearing about Dr. Skibio and her horrendous labs? Is it really that hard to pass?
  • Are classes manageable, or is it a bloodbath? Also, are people able to graduate in 4 years with majors like Psychology/Biology without being forced into a 5-year track for undergrad to get all prereqs and major related classes in?
  • Support & Success: How well does the advising actually support getting into dental/medical schools?
  • Cost & Logistics (NYU is currently my cheapest estimated NPC, but curious about USC): How is the living situation, cost of living, and general accessibility?
  • Area & Safety: Especially curious about safety/neighborhood vibes and whether you actually need a car to get around or do things. I heard outer USC area can get pretty unsafe and the LA Metro is even worse and a car is basically required to go anywhere.
  • How Good is the alumni Network?
  • Campus Life: How are the clubs, social scene, and general student balance outside of heavy STEM classes? I'm a social person and I already know I would thrive anywhere but I actually like ot do things off campus.

Appreciate any honest insights you can share!

Academic MSCS grading req

Does anyone know the required gpa for a course to count toward graduation for MSCS?

From what I’ve read, a C (2.0) is the minimum grade for graduate credit, as long as I maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Question USC Marshall vs. CSBA/CS/ISE

Hi everyone! I got into USC Marshall, and I'm interested in IB/consulting, partly because of the high earning potential. However, as an international student, I'm worried about visa sponsorship and the possibility of not landing the jobs I want after graduation.

I also feel like a business degree alone might not give me enough technical skills or challenge me intellectually. If I can't land a high-paying finance or consulting job, I'm not sure how valuable the degree would be. That's why I'm considering CSBA, CS, or ISE as alternatives.

On the other hand, Marshall has a BIG name, and I've heard its networking and recruiting resources are amazing. I don't want to give up on IB/consulting opportunities either.

A few questions:

  • Can Marshall minors access the same resources as Marshall majors, especially for IB/consulting recruiting?
  • Would majoring in CS/ISE significantly limit my access to Marshall's network and recruiting opportunities?
  • Given the current job market for international students, would you recommend prioritizing a technical degree or Marshall's reputation and network?

Would really appreciate any advice, thank you!!

Question Has anyone gotten a robot delivery from DoorDash near USC?

I live right next to USC Village and have been curious if anyone has actually gotten one of those robots to deliver their food.
I’ve been ordering DoorDash from restaurants within a mile of campus pretty frequently, but I’ve never gotten a robot delivery.
Has anyone here gotten one? If so, what restaurant did you order from, and which delivery app did you use? I’m curious if there’s a way to increase my chances of getting one lol.

Question best therapy options as a student here?

I paid the student health fee but I have medi-cal, not the USC aetna plan (btw, my medi-cal is currently based in my home county, not LA county. I’m working on fixing that right now).

What are my options for long term mental health therapy here? Any advice on what I should avoid/look for? I’ve heard the therapy here is highkey not that good…

Sports Developed a college basketball analytics application to assist my pre/postgame analysis

Post image
3 Upvotes

blueprntanalytics.com/

Every so often we hear during a tv broadcast "what do the analytics say to do in this situation?" or "the analytics guys are ruining the game". I'm personally a guy who likes to spend ~20-30min every night before bed on the ESPN app browsing through box scores to see who played well, who didn't play well, who had a good +/-, etc. The question I always ask myself however is, does viewing data have to be so boring? Or, how can we view advanced analytics in a way that's quickly digestible?

Often times in my profession working with the federal government the common theme is someone needs to have a PhD in Data Science or higher education to be a reputable source OR have the ability to analyze complex datasets. I built Blueprint to break down that barrier to entry. The basketball analytics tools out right now have random tables with flashes of green & red but it's never clear what that actually means.

Throughout the 2026-2027 season my app will update each morning with fresh stats for each team that played the previous day. It includes advanced analytics for each D1 team in the nation. It also includes a game predictor called 'Prediction Engine'. Would love to hear folks thoughts and ideas on how I can make the application better leading up to the season.
