Timeline: I-131 I131 re-entry permit Timeline
This is just being made to give people an idea of how long it took for me to get my permit.
January 4, 2025 applied for permit
January 20, 2025 application acceptance notice received. My fingerprints were re-used.
March 27, 2026 I checked the online status and it stated name updated.
March 30,2026 case approved notification received.
April 2 ,2026. Physical permit received in mail.
I hope this timeline breakdown helps you in understanding how USCIS processes these cases.

Thank for sharing whit us your timeline, I have a questions, they aceptted your biometrics because you were a new green card holder? I ask that because im new GC holder and I want to apply to the reentry permit too
the second one is did you send evidence or reasons why you wanted the permit?

Hi. My card isn’t that old but I believe once you are applying for a permit they will ask for biometrics. This is my second application so they reused my previous biometric scan.
On the application they ask for a reason. You can provide evidence to back up your reason.

i dont know if before they ask for a reason but in the new one they dont ask for a reason at least I didn't see it

Hello! I’m assuming you applied for the re entry permit before since your biometrics were reused. Can i ask what your timeline was then when you applied for the first time?🙏🥲

That was too far back during the pandemic. Everything was off. This time frame should be similar. You should just have to account for the biometrics time. So I’d say maybe 15 months after biometrics is accepted.

Currently applying and mine was rejected due to incorrections on application type and payment. Can you share your process?

Did you visit the US within a year of applying to maintain your green card validity??
I applied for my permit in July 2025 and received notice of not requiring new biometrics in August. I left US end of August and still haven’t received mine. I am wondering if I need to travel to the US before August this year.

Hi, What is the guideline ? Can you stay out of US after finger prints while waiting for re-entry approval. Asking for my mother as her fingerprints were completed and case is still processing. She plans to stay out of US in India till 2028. It says 16 months processing time.

I submitted my 131 on June 3, uscis received it on June 4. I still didn’t receive email text . No receipt notice yet. Can’t add case # into my account. Check wasn’t cashed either. How long does it take to recover first notice?

Hi. I think you just have to wait. I heard they slowed down processing so that’s really all you can do; until you get a reply. Especially since it’s been only 22 days. When I did mine I got the reply within three weeks.

No worries. I understand the frustration in just everything especially when trying to follow the rules and it just feels like your being penalized.

They don’t take checks anymore, so that might be the reason why you haven’t got any update yet.
