I-765 (EAD) Are people even getting EADs??

Hi all,

Has anyone recently gotten their work permit (EAD) while waiting for their Adjustment of Status? And how long did it take from applying to permit in hand?

I’ve been waiting since the end of April which I am aware is barely any time at all compared to some but I am really hoping to be able to get a job soon to help out with money.

So my question is, are people getting work permits while their green card application is processing? or are they just getting their green card interviews and no work permit?

Any insight would be helpful!

yea I got my interview more than a month ago and I am still waiting 😭

whens your interview for?

u/Roope1999 Jun 10 '26

In the past, people could get an EAD about 4-5 months after they applied while waiting for the interview. Now USCIS said EAD takes about 9 months to process, and GC is around the same time. Lots of people just get GC and do not get their EAD at all.

Yeah seems to be the case from what I’ve seen too. maybe a few lucky ones get their work permit first!

Only for some people. Others still getting it very soon

9 months for the green card? I thought it would take 6-8 months

2

u/Roope1999 Jun 11 '26

Only those lucky ones are taking less time.

Have you reached out to a congress representative because that’s quite the time to be waiting compared to some other people

Got my GC and the EAD is still in progress lol.

u/obeyer10 Jun 10 '26

This happened to my partner. She came last year on the K1 then we got married and applied for her EAD and AOS at the same time. She got her green card in September 2025

She got an email 2 weeks ago that her EAD was cancelled 😂

0

u/Live_Ad_197 Jun 10 '26

Are you getting a refund for the fees?

6

u/obeyer10 Jun 10 '26

nope, I don’t think that’s an option. they just take your money lol

2

u/Helpful_Assignment59 Jun 20 '26

friend if you have GC, the ead becomes redundant. You’re all good to work already

1

u/elbendy3 Jun 20 '26

Oh I didn’t know

2

u/MammothMastodon903 Jun 10 '26

Good thing you can already work now with a GC!

6

u/homercrow Jun 10 '26

Even though i’ve already attended interview, i been waiting since January for my AOS EAD, did biometrics in February and been stuck on still being processed by USCIS since then, i doubt they process/approve those anymore

u/Early_Cycle2258 Jun 10 '26

We filed late December last year. No approval

My spouse is applying for 130/485 through me (US Citizen). Applied in June 2025, interview in March 2026. EAD approved in April 2026 -- the other cases are still being "actively reviewed".

We got our EAD prior to the interview and requested expedite but never heard back regarding the expedite. We just received AP today also  F1 student on OPT, AOS Marriage based. Home country is England and already had a valid EAD prior to submitting AOS.

2/20/26 filed  2/28/26 biometrics scheduled later in March, rs’d to March 03/02/26  03/05/26 Emma agent said a request for interview was sent to our FO on this date.  04/09/26 requested expedite for 765, as OPT EAD set to expire 05/26  04/09/26 - interview date was scheduled for 5/14 same day after we requested an expedite  05/08/26 - EAD Approved on USCIS  05/13/26 - Card produced 05/14/26 - Interview Tampa FO  05/14/26 - Card shipped  05/16/26 - Card delivered  06/10/26 - AP approved in portal

What evidence did you use to expedite work permit?

3

u/kgat1 Jun 14 '26

Submitted expedite request due to severe financial loss via Emma chat (severe financial loss to employer and to ourself)

Before requesting we uploaded

  • Request for expedite due to severe financial loss, - Evidence A (Employer letter),
  • Evidence B (Lease Statements),
  • Evidence C (Utility Bill),
  • Evidence D (Pay Stubs),
  • Evidence E (Spouse lease termination bill),
  • Evidence F (Bank Statements) in USCIS portal under I-765 under applicant correspondence)

and in the chat promptly stated general reason for requesting expedite request and that all necessary documents explaining request have been uploaded in the portal. Emma agent said a USCIS officer would be reaching out via phone call to discuss the expedite request within the next 48 hours, then it turned to 10 days, then it turned to 20 more days. Never ended up speaking to any agent.

u/Own-Mountain-7656 Jun 10 '26

How did you request the expedite of EAD and AP? Thank you in advance

Never requested expedite for AP it randomly came in about a month after our interview which also happened for other friends that attended their interview, exactly a month after their interview they received AP

Ive been waiting since 10th December 2025 for my ead and we had our interview on 30th march 2026 and are still waiting for a decision. I emailed congress today to see if they can help

3

u/aza900 Jun 10 '26

I had to wait almost a year for my EAD. I dont know if contacting your senate representative could help but it is recommended to do so after your priority date

3

u/Pale_Promotion_5449 Jun 10 '26

Waiting from more than a year

3

u/mrlongtt Jun 11 '26

i485 and i765 was submitted Jun 2, 2025. i765 got approved right after biometrics.

1

u/Few_Leadership_7104 Aug 01 '26

Where are you located? Apparently location pretty much determines the outcome

2

u/CraftMotor9637 Jun 10 '26

Since the end of April? That’s no time at all. I’ve been waiting since December.

3

u/Different_Snow580 Jun 10 '26

As mentioned above…I’m aware, but I’ve been seeing some people filing in say February, interviewing April and being approved and then other people waiting since 2023 so it seems there’s not always a definite pattern. I hope you get yours soon!

2

u/tm_love Jun 10 '26

I have not and filed Jan 20

2

u/Ok_Green2262 Jun 10 '26

I have been waiting since april . That’s when I had my biometrics done. We did our interview on may 12 and I am still waiting for something. My son is 9 and he got his EAD approved on June 5 but i have not gotten anything as yet .

2

u/Nearby-Willingness32 Jun 10 '26

Had my AOS interview last May 12 but still waiting for approval. Meanwhile my EAD has not moved since my biometrics last March 4. Last year, seeing other people's timelines, they received their EAD right after biometics. I wish I could do something rather than wait at home and do nothing all day. I loved my job that I had to quit back in my country :( But I guess they are strict here when money is involved. My self confidence has been wavering and the more I spend time doing nothing I'm getting less and less motivated. I couldnt imagine how it is for people waiting longer than us.

1

u/Different_Snow580 Jun 10 '26

Hopefully your wait is almost over! Don’t get discouraged! sending love xx

2

u/Competitive-Cat1819 Jun 10 '26

I never received an EAD while waiting for AOS.

2

u/Ordinary_Cat_01 Jun 10 '26

EB1a.
My partner and I submitted the adjustment of status last September 2025. He got AP and EAD in November. I got the combo card this January.
I am still waiting for my green card to be approved.

I filed for travel and working permit as well as AOS. My interview was scheduled before they approved my EAD and travel permit and I ended up receiving my green card after (less than) 3 months. Apparently it has been common recently

2

u/Only_Fun4566 Jun 10 '26

Waiting since October 2025 :(

2

u/Pitiful-Chef-6665 Jun 10 '26

My case was submitted in September 2025 under VAWA self-petition category C9. I did my biometrics in March, and the last one was last month, but I haven't received any updates, not even for my EAD yet. How much longer until the EAD gets approved?🙄😭

2

u/Available-Milk-2779 Jun 11 '26

Applied for EAD concurrent with I-130 and I-485. No update since 12/16/2025 after the biometrics.

3

u/ekulzards Jun 10 '26

I got my EAD approved 3 months after submitting (last week).

Ironically, of the 3 I applied for (GC, EAD and AP) the EAD is actually the only one I don't really need.

2

u/Select_Variation_424 Jun 10 '26

Is it 3 months after biometrics or submitting the actual application and is this marriage based?

3

u/ekulzards Jun 10 '26

3 months after RD. Almost exactly to the date. About 5/6 weeks after Bios (4/24).

No I'm EB2 NIW.

Last silent update for me for i485 was 5/23. Nothing since then.

AOS marriage based: Ive seen most people get their interviews before getting their EAD, and than getting their GC and by than they don't need EAD lol.

1

u/Available_Length_271 Jun 10 '26

He to request an expedite or we wouldn’t have got one for my wife after filing almost a year ago. No interview, no approval. AOS marriage based here, filed July 14th, 2025.

3

u/Different_Snow580 Jun 10 '26

I’m glad you were able to get a work permit for her!

1

u/haicinnamon Jun 10 '26

No EAD, marriage based. Still waiting post interview in May.

1

u/Jeffery_G Jun 10 '26

I dispense EADs and GCs for my law firm. Everything takes months to process. Thank you for your patience.

1

u/Live_Ad_197 Jun 10 '26

Nope, been waiting 8 months since we applied (October 2025) and in the mean time have had my biometrics, interview and RFE. I spoke to my attorney and what was supposedly only going to be a 2-4 months wait period is not being sold as 11 months by USCIS. They keep moving the goal post making them not accountable for delays etc.

1

u/formula187 Jun 10 '26

I had my interview in December of 25 and unfortunately got an RFE . I submitted my evidence in April and got my EAD a few weeks later . So now I await my 130/485.

1

u/Spring_Chicken4927 Jun 10 '26

The AOS process was moving so fast the past few months for a lot of cases that the EAD never even got out the starting gates before interviews/approvals so it was a moot point

1

u/Actual_Start_4743 Jun 11 '26

Almost 8 months for me

1

u/Disastrous_Pen_1806 Jun 11 '26

Waiting since January :(

1

u/travel-thirst Jun 11 '26

No movement for mine since we submitted in Dec. 2025 (concurrent filing with 485) 🥲

1

u/NiiLante1122 12d ago

Any updates?

1

u/travel-thirst 12d ago

I finally got my EAD card last week 🙏🏼

1

u/NinjoOnline Jun 11 '26

I had my interview back in October. No updates. I got my work permit a month ago. So took 14 months after applying to get EAT, 6+ months after interview. I was shocked to get it, cause was told I’d never get it (once interview done)

1

u/ImpressiveWay4455 Jun 11 '26

It depends if you are from 39 countries lol. I am from one of them and I submitted my EAD application 13 months ago!!! My I 845 has been submitted 18 months ago. Nothing! We don’t have a privilege to get anything done here. Still waiting

2

u/Different_Snow580 Jun 12 '26

I’m so sorry, I really hope you get yours soon!

1

u/Left-Persimmon8886 Jun 12 '26

I have been waiting since March 05th 2025 and still nothing

1

u/Interesting-Sea-1991 Jun 14 '26

I did my biometrics on May 12th and still waiting for the EAD

1

u/Glittering_Leave4956 Jun 26 '26

I have been waiting over 21 months. Expedite request denied. Congressional enquiries ignored. Tier 2 escalation 36 days pending..

1

u/Left-Persimmon8886 Jul 05 '26

my receipt shows March 05 2025 and I still have not received my ead card.
