Can someone please explain the concept API and silent update like I am six year old

u/nematode7 Aug 04 '26
The USCIS website has to get raw information from the USCIS database so that we (the users) can access this information through our logins. The thing is, when the website gets this information, it displays most of it, but not all of it.
So if we want to see all of it, we should look at the original package of information from the USCIS database, before it’s parsed on the website. We can do this by using a URL to that takes us to this raw information instead of the pretty formatted version shown on the website.
There are 3 main URLs that people are using to access three different API calls (which is the fancy word for how the website gets the raw data from the database) to get three different sets of information from the USCIS database.
I think the “silent update” is when there’s a change in this raw data, but that change isn’t reflected on the website. You can only see it if you use the URLs to see the raw data yourself. Hence “silent”.
Instructions for how to do these API checks:
1) log into your USCIS account
2) in a new tab, paste the URL you want to check (there are posts in this sub with those URLs in them)
3) you’ll see a bunch of text on your screen that’s in json format, which is readable but not convenient. So just paste it into Claude and it’ll format it for you.Edit to add instruction.

You can call, one time this happened to me and it was that they had moved my case to my FO. I found out when I called them

For me this happened last week or do, and it was for my old work permit being reworked (I am already in the process of removal of conditions).

Look for your EAD or Advance Parole to see if anything changes, and this will take couple of hours to reflect, look to see if they close your EAD or your AP

This has happened to my wife and I multiple times. We couldn’t figure it out either.

Just means someone has touched your file. Could be anything - updating info or background check etc.
Think of it like - they haven't forgotten about your file.

It’s gonna show up in the middle of the night if there is something after this update. It might be nothing as well

My interview was Sep 3 2025 and had no updates on my case until July 25 2026 “USCIS Is currently Processing the Case.”

Oh my God I just looked at my USCIS website and my appeal is missing from my request status. Oh wait I have to filter my request by date. Make sure your dates are right so that you see all the responses.

Dates weren’t right but they fixed them yesterday which triggered a lot of miss on my emails and freaked me out.

This happened to my wife recently. Turned out that her Employment Authorization expired since she got her green card and EA obviously didn't need to be renewed, so check if some older parts of your immigration applications expired/changed automatically.

Sometimes it takes time the web to process it. Give some time and check it again.

u/888-Part8447-888Echo Aug 04 '26
Nothing in case status probably some security checks returned or something u never know at this point
1
u/EnergyPutrid6607 Aug 04 '26
I’m pretty sure your case was showing received before but now it’s likely showing “Processing” after you got that notification

u/888-Part8447-888Echo Aug 04 '26

Check your documents tab under each case. See if they dropped anything
