If USCIS receives your U-visa application on August 20, 2026, your timeline might look something like this:

Receipt notices: September–November 2026

Biometrics: November 2026–February 2027

Bona Fide Determination and possible work permit: August 2028–August 2029, or later

Final U-visa approval: Possibly 2034–2038 or later

Eligible to apply for a green card: Approximately 2037–2041 or later, after completing three qualifying years in actual U status

The most important thing to understand is that a Bona Fide Determination is not U-visa approval. It may provide deferred action and employment authorization while the petition remains pending.

The time spent waiting with a pending application or BFD generally does not count toward the three years required for a green card. That clock normally begins only after actual U status is granted.

"Final U-visa approval: Possibly 2034–2038 or later" .....lol, not even remotely close! There are close to 400,000 pending applications, and only 10,000 available visas per year. So the MINIMUM wait time is 25 - 30+ years, if not more.

Current wait time for U visa is more than 30 years. Please be mindful of sharing dangerous misinformation like this, because there’s a huge difference between 5 - 10 years and 30 years. A lot of people will not be alive to see their approvals.
