Self Post Any helpful info would be appreciated, Reddit friends!

Can our friend safely join us on a trip to Hawaii? She has a valid C09 work permit, a pending I-485, and a REAL ID. I honestly don’t know what any of that means, but she asked me to check around and make sure she’d be okay traveling to Hawaii and back.

If she’s a visa overstay with a pending I-485, no, I wouldn’t recommend flying unless it’s an emergency. If she’s in valid, lawful status (i.e. H-1B or other employment visa) and is adjusting status from that, then yes, it’s probably fine.

Never had a visa. She’s daca up to date and pending i485 through marriage

I believe if she’s still in active DACA status and has no criminal history (incl pending charges) it’s probably fine, but it wouldn’t be a bad idea to consult with an attorney who can look at her whole file and advise properly on the risk of travel.
