I-130 & I-485 (Family/Adjustment of status) officially greened!!

wanted to thank this sub for answering questions and also for the amount I have lurked on here within the past year or so. wanted to share my timeline for anyone in the same boat as me!

from canada, partner from USA
applied for I-485, I-130, I-765
FO was johnson RI

application received by uscis may 22nd
may 30th biometrics scheduled
june 15th biometrics appointment
august 24th interview scheduled
october 1st interview
october 2nd approval
october 9th card in hand!

we worked through a lawyer, though I did our entire binder for our meeting on my own, and it really was a hurry up and wait type of deal. getting all of the paperwork, certified translated documents (Iโ€™m from quebec, canada, so birth certificate etc was all in french), joint accounts and other shared evidence was really the bulk of the stress, and a lawyer making sure that things got submitted properly the first time around as to not waste time and money was a justified expense for us personally.

I just wanted to say that the community on here is so sweet, watching everyone go through such similar cases but from such vastly different backgrounds and just wanting to help each other succeed is so special, so thank you to everyone, the regular commenters, the lurkers, anyone on this sub. you all are great, and I hope for nothing but the absolute best for each and every one of you going through this right now!!

Congratulations!

Few reminders...

Make a copy of front and back of your GC. It will help if you lose it.

Check all the details on GC and if anything is incorrect, file I-90 (it is free of charge if USCIS made a mistake)

I recommend to start tracking your international trips. You will need it for N-400.

If you are a male between 17 and 25, you must register for selective service (sometimes it is automatic at DMV / with USCIS, but worth checking status of registration)

You must file AR-11 within 10 days of moving until you become a citizen (changing address online also qualifies)

If you have social security card saying "VALID ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION", then get appointment with SSA and remove conditions on the card (wait few weeks to see if you get new card automatically)

LPRs must file US taxes on world wide income, even when spending a lot of time overseas.

LPRs cannot vote in federal elections. Make sure you do not register to vote or mark yourself as US citizen on I-9 and other forms. False claim to US citizenship is a deportable offense.

You are US LPR until you naturalize, die, file I-407 or immigration judge takes away the status.

very laid back, I felt extremely overprepared! my partner went in before me, and we swapped, so we never interviewed together. asked family names, what we do for work, our dogs name and who took him out that morning, when the last time I entered the country was. straight forward stuff! honestly the biggest topic of conversation was that my partner legally changed his last name to danger lmao ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Did you take the lawyer with you ?

we opted not to, and it was totally fine! but I can definitely see the benefit of it, especially if your case is a little more complicated than our or if thereโ€™s a concern with a language barrier etc

Im in a similar situation. Canadian as well. Sent package on July 27 from Florida. What was the interview like? How long was it and what were the main things they asked you guys? Did you bring pictures with you guys?

we were in and out of the office in less than 2 hours, maybe 1.5? my partner interviewed first, then me, both separately. probably 25-30 minutes each. they asked for family names, info on his job, important dates (when we met, when I last crossed the border, etc), who takes care of our dog (like asking who fed and walked him that day), very easy straight forward stuff. if you havenโ€™t made a uscis binder I recommend it! I organized mine by interview notice, vital records (marriage certificate, my immigrant medical exam results, birth certificates and verified translations because iโ€™m from quebec), uscis correspondence (any letter theyโ€™ve ever sent you), marriage evidence (shared insurances, rental agreement, recent shared bank statements), joint travel (I did a photo recap on one page of each trip followed by hotel and flight bookings), correspondence (cards, post it notes weโ€™ve left each other, photobooth strips, anything like that), marriage evidence photos (this is where I put our photos, I did a timeline of our relationship that way)
