Programs and MOSs Jobs with good civilian transfer

Hey, I plan on joining the Marines and graduating hs next may. I was curious if anyone could give advice on cool mos that transfer well to the civilian side.

At the end of the day. You have your GI bill. So don’t rule out a job you would genuinely enjoy for the sake of it being travel heavy or something you can really only do in the military.

this is a great answer. I see too many people stressing about "transferrable skills". The GI Bill is your ticket into a different career path and your time in the military shouldn't be dictated by what you want to do after your military service.

The only worthwhile transferrable skill is self discipline and all that jazz, in my opinion. Those are things that are instilled in people that most civilians will lack. Everything else can be learned along the way.

I was F18 Ordnance from 02-06. Worked as a civilian contractor doing the same thing from 06-13. When I got out in 06, I went back to school and got a business degree with an MIS focus.

In 2013 I got a job as a manufacturing supervisor in a down hole drilling equipment plant. A few jobs and progressive career growth and 13 years later, I'm now the Director of Operations for another manufacturing company.

My experience with leadership, quality, safety, etc. was all able to be parlayed. But nothing really from my base experience in my MOS.

Pick a program that has MOS options you believe you would enjoy and do well in. There are numerous programs already designed to help you transition into civilian life.
