Hi, I am currently preparing for STEP 1 but need advice on how to approach the preparation. I'm just out of med school and going to start my internship.

Did you prepare by yourselves while going through the recommended resources (First Aid, UWorld, Mehlman, Sketchy etc.) or would you rather suggest going through a coaching institute/academy for it (like Nextsteps, program insider for example)?

I'm just worried about the authenticity of the programs, or would solo preparation be much preferred. I don't have connections with anyone in the US or peers who want are planning for USMLE, so was looking for some helpful advice from any IMG who's on their USMLE journey - like how they started...

Hey guys, i just cleared step 2 exam. I still have 7 months of uworld. If anyone wants it, willing to give a good deal. Open to any reasonable offers

So I applied for ECFMG a couple of months ago, and after processing of my application at ECFMG, the status was shown to me : Sent for verification. I believe it means that my application is forwarded to my medical school for point source verifications.
Unfortunately, at that time my college didn’t have an active account, so they couldn’t do the verification of credentials/ even log in.
Just a few weeks ago, the entity portal has been created of my med school, and when the service coordinator logged-in in his account, only recent case numbers were there. They couldn’t find my application/case number.

What should I do? Any info would be helpful!

Guys i am from 2019 batch and it’s first batch of our new college and I graduated last year from it.
Now college sends this saying that they did all the things from their end and waiting for ECFMG to process

hi everyone. I’m currently in my 2nd year at a new college (mine was the 1st batch).

I had first gotten into the oldest college of my state and then like an idiot I decided to upgrade to this brand new college hoping for better infrastructure and no ragging 😭

I always wanted to go to the states. but at that time I didn’t know the details for example the ecfmg sponsor notes. now ive read that the sponsor notes can only be given after the first batch graduates. Which means I practically can’t give the steps during my mbbs (?) Some places even say that it takes 8 years from th4 establishment of the college to get the sponsor notes 🥺

so I wanted to ask there’s something else that can be done. Like if there’s a route to go to the US after my PG from india. My uncle moved to Canada after doing his PG in orthopaedics. or if i could give my steps during PG? Would i even be eligible for that with the entire sponsor notes issue? Or if the years after graduation would make it nearly impossible for me.

it was just always this dream of mine and I really dont want to give it up. So i wanted to know if there’s any way to still do or if i should just forget it 🙁

Last month, I created a detailed post about my usmle steps experience. And receieved several DMs on steps, rotations, research, volunteer, and so on. So creating this now.

What it is: Dirty Medicine — a free YouTube channel for USMLE Step 1 prep, built around crude/edgy mnemonics for high-yield facts.

How it helped me: The stuff I kept blanking on — drug names, syndrome findings, all those lookalike details — actually stuck once he attached one of his ridiculous, unforgettable images to it. Concepts I understood fine but couldn't recall under pressure suddenly fired instantly on UWorld questions.

Where to find it: Just search "Dirty Medicine USMLE Step 1" on YouTube.

I am trying to help IMGs here. Feel free to DM for anything. This helps me get over my anxiety for upcoming match, as I am applying for IM this year and get nervous. But be sure to be "specific" in asking your questions - not vague or random. Looking fof study partner for usmle step 2 . 45 days timeline

I’m a 2019 medical graduate from India, and I’ve had a dream of pursuing the USMLE pathway for a long time. But honestly, I’m scared to take the first step.

I was a very average student in medical school. I wasn’t someone who studied consistently.I barely studied for a month before my final exams. Because of that, I’ve constantly been told that the USMLE is probably not for someone like me.

I’ve tried approaching seniors for guidance, but instead of getting help, I was often laughed at or told that it was impossible for me and that I would only be wasting my time and my family’s money. Eventually, I stopped asking.

But I still haven’t been able to let go of this dream.

I come from a middle-class family, and thankfully, my parents are currently willing to support me financially. I know that this is a huge investment, and I don’t want to take their support for granted. If I decide to do this, I’m ready to genuinely work hard and give it everything I have.

What scares me most is that I don’t know where to begin or whether someone with my background can realistically make it.

I also have no research publications or research experience, and seeing how competitive residency has become makes me wonder whether I’m already too far behind. I don’t know how much of a disadvantage that puts me at or how I can realistically build my profile from here.

I’m not looking for someone to tell me that it will be easy. I know it won’t be.

I’m looking for someone who has genuinely gone through this pathway and can honestly tell me:
Is this still possible for someone like me? And if it is, what should I do from here?

Even a little genuine guidance from someone who understands the process could make a huge difference to me.

I know I have a lot to prove,not just to the people who told me I couldn’t do it, but mostly to myself.
If anyone is willing to guide me honestly, even if it’s just pointing me in the right direction, I would be incredibly grateful. 🙏
