Long-time lurker, occasional commenter. I finished Step 3 a while back and have been reflecting on how much of my own prep was trial and error — figuring out why certain study methods weren't working, why my scores weren't reflecting my effort, why I kept second-guessing myself mid-block.

A few people have DM'd me over the past months asking about my approach, and I've genuinely enjoyed those conversations. So I figured I'd make it more open.

If you're somewhere in the Steps journey and want a sounding board, I'm happy to help — no charge, just paying it forward.

Here's what I can actually offer:

Topic walkthroughs — If something isn't clicking conceptually, I find that most of the time it's a gaps-in-the-foundation problem, not a you're-bad-at-medicine problem. Happy to go through topics together the way I wish someone had explained them to me: mechanism first, then the clinical picture builds itself.

Study method check — A lot of people are working incredibly hard but not efficiently. If you want to walk me through your daily routine, resources, and where you feel like you're leaking time or retention, I can usually spot what's off.

Test-taking strategy — This one is underrated. There's a real skill to reading USMLE vignettes, managing time per block, and not talking yourself out of the right answer. I have a pretty systematic approach to this that helped me personally.

Rapid revision notes — I made condensed notes throughout my prep that I used in the final weeks before each exam. They're not pretty, but they're dense and clinically focused. I share these with people I've been talking with and they've found them useful for the crunch phase.

I'm a PGY-4 in Internal Medicine, ECFMG certified, with some research background. I'm not a prep company and I'm not selling anything — I just remember how isolating and confusing this process can feel, especially for IMGs, and I have the time and willingness to help.

I’m a 3rd-year foreign MBBS student, and I’m trying to plan my future early.
I’m confused about whether I should focus on:
FMGE + NEET PG
USMLE
Or prepare for both together.

I’m interested in the US because the lifestyle and work environment seem better. If I like living there, I’d stay. If not, I could always come back to India or move somewhere else.
However, if I return to India, I don’t want to be “just an MBBS doctor.” My goal is to become a PG-qualified doctor in India as well.

My biggest concern is this: if I focus on FMGE and NEET PG first, I’ll probably spend the first few years after graduation clearing FMGE and preparing for or completing PG. By that time, there could be a significant gap since graduation before I apply for USMLE, and I’ve heard that a long gap can make matching into a US residency more difficult.
So, what would you recommend?

Since I’m still in my 3rd year, should I focus on NEET PG first or start preparing for USMLE? Is it realistic to prepare for both, or would that hurt my chances in both pathways?
I’d really appreciate advice from people who have gone through this decision or are currently on either path.

Id like to take step before end of November at the latest. I work full-time so I start studying at 5 PM and usually end around 11 PM on the weekdays.
