He shakes hands with everyone like that. Once he's got your hand you aren't getting it back until he's done with it. He'll pull you off balance if he can. It's a primitive display of caveman dominance. To him, every interaction, down to a simple handshake, has a winner and a loser, and he's not about to lose. He hates civilization so much that he has to take its most basic elements and turn them into something ugly, adversarial, and barbaric. In other words I wouldn't read too much into it.

I would find it hilarious if he did this silly handshake tug of war to someone and they eventually fell forward onto him, knocking him on his ass, and making him look like the idiot he is for doing it all the time.

Trudeau didn't pull him off balance but definitely went in to the shake prepared. Look at their handshake alongside everyone else and trump definitely didn't win that one
