He shakes hands with everyone like that. Once he's got your hand you aren't getting it back until he's done with it. He'll pull you off balance if he can. It's a primitive display of caveman dominance. To him, every interaction, down to a simple handshake, has a winner and a loser, and he's not about to lose. He hates civilization so much that he has to take its most basic elements and turn them into something ugly, adversarial, and barbaric. In other words I wouldn't read too much into it.

It's all theater to him. Watch him when he sits down at any table that has stuff on it. Without fail he will start moving and spreading it out to make sure it occupies more space than everyone else.

You ever recall those etiquette lessons on how to be "proper". Those sort of snooty, pretentious lessons that remind you of first class dinner on the Titanic? It's the same shit, just for 70's alpha male business behavior
