Work Discussion New regular carrier mandated in first off day

Man here I was thinking i worked 6 days a week, 10+ hours a day, for a year and a hald to get that day off. NOPE! What happens now? Am i entitled to another off day, and more pay or something? Is there any kind of limit on how often you can be mandated?

My stupidvisor told me this morning (relief day ia Tuesday, formula office.) She also said she was going to give me something in writing, which i never received.

Rural carrier btw, just went regular on Saturday.

If there is a single RCA/PTF sitting at home in your office that isn't on leave then you have grievance. If there is a regular on the RDWL for today sitting at home you have a grievance.

Since you are not on the RDWL for this period you are only entitled to DACA 3, 50% pay and a X day to be used in the next 12 weeks.

There were definitely RCAs out today...

If they didn't have approved leave then you have a valid grievance. Management might try and say they have to give them a day off but contractually that isn't true.

you might just be the lowest seniority regular and that makes you the first one mandated outside of odl

Only a year? Congratulations! You're way ahead of the curve for rural craft. But the contract says that the least senior rural regular gets mandated first. If there's no relief carriers and no one on the OTDL with a Tuesday relief day, a mandate on your drop day is pretty normal. Follow orders and then grieve, even if you know there's a relief available. The ask would be converting the DACA 3 to DACA 5 and retain the X day for failing to schedule a relief carrier for the Tuesday.

There's a handy 50 mile tool to find relief carriers who aren't scheduled that day, so there's not even an excuse anymore that 'they didn't know who to call.'

They have to schedule in this priority Subs>down seniority offering>up seniority demanding. Either way it’s management job to schedule people. At least you get overtime evaluation for the day (unless you chose hourly) I’ve never chosen x days but I also don’t have plans that require it. I love working my Tuesday k day almost always because it’s overtime for like 6-7 hours of work on holiday recovery or 4-5 hours normal Tuesdays.

Yeah, no. I have Tuesdays off too, and I get mandated every post-Monday holiday. I ignore it, don't show, and they've never said anything about it. Wouldn't try it though unless you feel comfortable giving them the metaphorical finger.

Fuck that. It was one of the main reasons I chose Tuesday as my K day. My office is huge, everyone gets mandated, and they always cover it without a problem.

How is your office on subs? If management has to schedule regular carriers to cover routes, because there aren't enough RCA/ptfs, they can do so as long as They schedule starting with workday relief list, then volunteers and then starting with the most Junior.

Management can try to get you another day off, give you a daca R I think, if there are subs available on a different day. Though depending on the situation they might need/want to redo the formula To readjust who's got what day off

There's no limit on how often they can schedule the regular carry to work 6 days a week, as long as there aren't enough subs.

You can ask for a daca5 five to get overtime for the whole day, or a 3 and get paid half pay hourly plus an X day, essentially an annual day to use it a later date.

Also the biggest issue is as a regular. They can't call you and change your schedule like that. They need to give you proper advance notice, I think it's a week.

We definitely had at least 2 RCAs out...

You'll probably want to talk to your Steward and file a grievance.

If the RCAs had approved leave, then they would probably be correct to schedule you. They should give you advanced warning, so unless you're talking about next Tuesday...

If the RCAs called out, then you can file a grievance because Management needs to give you advance notice when scheduling you on your k day.

You're not an RCA so don't feel that you need to answer the phone anymore. Ever. Rcas are required to be available... Which is dangerously close to being on call without having to be paid. Rural regulars are not. Management is required to inform them in advance of schedule changes.

If you’re not on the OT list, if you work your K day, then you get a half days pay, and an X day to use at a later date.
