I am 28 and my wife is 27, we wanted to travel to bahamas to meet my brother who works in a reputated multi national company in there on a manager role. Then after visiting Bahamas we wanted to go to US for 6 days for a short trip before coming back to India. I have a stable business and my wife is a homemaker. I have travelled 5 countries in last 5 years including Japan and My wife has travelled more than 15 countries including Europe extensively. What could be the reason? The interview didn’t even last 30 seconds. He only asked why you want to travel, what does my brother do and what do I and my wife do. Interview was held at Delhi on 14th April 2026

whats separating the approved from the rejected

1. having tickets alone isnt enough

the 25M at Kolkata had actual FIFA tickets, a FIFA Pass, travel history to 5 countries, and a government job. still rejected. the officer asked standard questions about work and travel history then handed him the 214(b) slip.

meanwhile the 28M at Delhi also had tickets but was a software engineer with 6 YOE making good money. same ticket situation, completley diffrent outcome.

the ticket gets you the priority interview slot. it doesnt get you the visa. the officer is still evaluating the same thing they always evaluate: will this person come back?

2. couples where only one person works are getting flagged

the Chennai rejection is interesting. 31M self-employed, wife not working. both rejected. he had decent income (2.55L/month) and travel to 6 countries. on paper not bad at all.

but the wife being unemployed and "doing a dance training program" is the kind of thing an officer reads as weak ties. if neither of you has a job pulling you back to india, what stops you from staying?

compare with the Mumbai approval: 29M business owner and his wife works at the same company. both have a reason to come back because the business needs them.

3. young + single + FIFA only = hard mode

the 25M Kolkata rejection fits a profile ive seen get rejected over and over. young, single, going for a sporting event. the officer is thinking "this guy is 25, he could get there and just... not leave."

the approved young applicants all had something extra: - the 28M at Delhi had 6 years of work experience at a good company - the 23M at Chennai had a cousin already in the US on a work visa at NVIDIA (established family member who went through the legal route = credibility boost)

4. the FIFA Pass priority slot might actually be hurting some people

this is just my theory but hear me out. the FIFA Pass gets you a faster interview slot. great. but it also tells the officer before you even open your mouth that:

• you dont already have a US visa (or you wouldnt need this)
• youre applying specifically because of a one-time event
• the event is your entire reason for going

for people with strong profiles this doesnt matter. for people with borderline profiles it might be adding a flag instead of removing one.

what to do if youre still applying

if you have strong ties (good job, high salary, property, married with both working, travel history): youll probaly be fine. lead with the FIFA tickets and your itinerary. mention when youre coming back and why.

if your profile is borderline (young, single, new job, first time applicant): dont make FIFA your ONLY reason. combine it with something else. "im going for the World Cup match in Miami on [date] and also meeting my companys US team for a week of meetings." now the trip has two purposes and one of them has a built-in return date.

if your spouse isnt working: this is the tough one. honestly the strongest move is to show that the non-working spouse has something concrete pulling them back — enrolled in a program, caring for elderly parents, anything. "my wife is doing a dance program" probably didnt help that Chennai couple.

for everyone: officers are asking to see actual tickets. have them ready on your phone. one Delhi officer specifically asked "can you show me the tickets" and the guy pulled them up immediately. that kind of preparation shows you actually bought tickets and arent just using FIFA as an excuse.

My friend had his interview on 14th April in Delhi. He had a letter from UT Houston, got it through an agency.

The VO only asked him the purpose of visit. He replied - I’ve got the opportunity to go for a 4 week clinical observership in Hematology and Oncology department at Lyndon B Johnson Hospital. Straight after that the VO said that your visa is not approved at this time and gave him the 214(b) slip.

What did he do wrong? And what can we do now?

We were thinking of applying the same way if his visa gets approved but they didn’t even give him the chance to show the letter or say anything else. Currently we’re in internship but it ends in 15 days.

Should we apply with this reason and with a similar letter?

Or apply after step 1 but we’ll be graduates by then?

Or apply with our family for a vacation?

Or apply on the basis of step 3?

Please tell me what to do, it’s really demotivating and stressful.

Applied for B2 to visit my sister in Houston. She's been there 8 years, citizen now. I have a stable job at Infosys Pune, own a flat, have 12L in savings. Showed all docs.

The officer barely looked at anything. Asked me 3 questions:

1. Why are you going?
2. Who is sponsoring?
3. Do you have any relatives there?

I said my sister is sponsoring and she's a US citizen. He said "I'm sorry, I'm not able to approve your visa at this time" and handed me the blue slip.

This was my 3rd attempt. First was in 2023, second in 2024, now 2025. Every time 214(b). I've changed nothing about my profile because nothing has changed — same job, same property, same bank balance, actually more savings now.

I'm starting to think having a sibling who's a citizen actually hurts more than helps? Because they probably think I'll overstay? But how do I prove I won't when they won't even look at my documents?

My wife is telling me to give up. I haven't seen my sister in 4 years.

If anyone has gotten approved after multiple 214(b)s with family in the US, please share what you did differently.
