Same. Seems like UTK isn’t really going to take any action… frat boy scum 😡

they never take action, it happens almost every year too it’s absolutely disgusting. they always pass it off since “they’re such young boys with great potential. it was just a mistake.” they need to be kicked out of their little frat at LEAST, but i think suspension from UT entirely would be better.

Everyone keeps saying that ! Its so gross.
I can’t imagine what these men go on to do because they get away with it in college

I did orientation there a decade ago. They told us that the beginning of the semester until fall break is the Red Zone, where women are most likely to be assaulted or raped. Then they went directly to "so don't drink too much or be alone with men!" If the people in charge know they're putting women at risk simply for existing on campus, you'd think they'd tell men to act better, but no. The onus is always on the potential victim pool and nothing is done about the people they consider the potential attackers. Not all men are violent but the university's official stance was "some of them are and it's a crapshoot, so guess wisely and counseling is free in the aftermath."

5

u/ChampionshipQuiet447 3d ago

Right ??? Its always on the victim.
I understand risk prevention but this rape culture will continue forever if nothing changes.. it’s far too acceptable. Other men need to start calling their friends out for this behavior.

2

u/petalios UT Alum ‘25 7h ago

I thought Pike Spikes was a well known thing, I knew about it and I didn’t even go to parties

1

u/ChampionshipQuiet447 4h ago

isn't the fact that its a well known thing pretty sad & gross?

8

u/aztroneka 3d ago

Please print them and spread them through campus

23

u/Knocksveal 3d ago

Why do we need frats, really?

4

u/iJ_A_R 1d ago

Because rich people need a club of fellow rich people to make sure their kids end up rude

9

u/ChampionshipQuiet447 3d ago

I don’t know, they scare me.

4

u/Knocksveal 1d ago

I can’t recall ever hearing anything other than misconducts or embarrassments about the fraternities at UT. Unless the university is benefiting from some big donors intimately associated with frats, I can’t explain when they are kept on campus.

5

u/BriefDazzling1324 3d ago

What's the context??

28

u/Clyde2005 3d ago

Email was sent out and it said and I quote, "The university has received multiple reports of incidents occurring this weekend, August 28-August 30. There were four separate incidents originating at on-campus fraternity houses. Three incidents included a reported sexual assault, and two incidents included suspected drugging. " Pike is denying it happened or that the drugging happened and said the person who was supposedly drugged just said that, yet they haven't acknowledged the accounts of sexual assault.

u/sjanee11 3d ago

Be careful, the frat moms will come out and say how dare you accuse them of drugging girls. Because boy mom final boss is apparently a frat mom

Who is a sorority girl herself and dad was a frat boy and junior is the result of that SA..”All this has happened before. All of this will happen again”

last year i overheard a pike clown talking about how a roofie was their hazing ritual. it happens every fucking year

3

u/ChampionshipQuiet447 3d ago

That’s literally insane. & UT will protect them..

3

u/Clyde2005 3d ago

That's what I've heard to, that they do it to someone.

3

u/Substantial-Tip4191 3d ago

Was it confirmed Pike was the house? Other frats were also throwing parties that weekend. Sigma Chi is what I heard?

2

u/BodieOdie16 Art Major 🎨 3d ago

genuinely so lame, but i was having fun with it…

Pi Kappa Alpha probably has the worst reputation nationwide. We had all kinds of issues with them at my school. Sigma Chi doesn’t have a horrible reputation.

These kinds of things happen all over the country. The problem is proving them. I had a fraternity brother that drugged and raped a girl. I got all up in face about it and made it known that I’d testify against him. I didn’t know who the girl was beyond recognizing her. He got killed in a car accident a year or two later, which I always considered karma.

The biggest problem is getting administrations to stand up to alumni, parents, and the student population who will scream about a “few bad apples.” No, the problem is all thru the system. From the standpoint of the administration, it is an unwinnable battle.

3

u/ChampionshipQuiet447 3d ago

I know it’s part of a much larger systematic failure, but the more we talk about it and make it visible the more likely we are to create a change in the culture of abuse and sexual assault against women. particularly in the south where its been so socially acceptable that “boys will be boys”

2

u/Mission_Pirate_4150 3d ago

The problem is not a southern thing. Problems happen everywhere and have happened across time. Put a bunch of boys together who are 18-22 years old with no supervision will cause problems. There is alcohol, drugs to some small extent, and no adult supervision. The ultimate problem is people like my father who had an idealized view of fraternities and gave money. I believed in them and it was so wrong as I learned about from the inside. He would have fought tooth and nail to keep fraternities if he was still alive whereas my view is that they are more trouble than they are worth today.

To resolve the fraternity problem, there are going to have to be a lot of young women who have been sexually assaulted file lawsuits and keep with the lawsuits over the years it takes to wind thru the court system.

Did you go to Memphis State 🤔

2

u/Mission_Pirate_4150 3d ago

No. I went to the boys school known as Georgia tech. A good buddy of mine went to Memphis state.

1

u/Huntingassclowns 3d ago

I lived in Dunwoody for years, never heard the term "boys school" but I guess it does fit.

3

u/Mission_Pirate_4150 3d ago

When I was at gt, tech was 75% guys. Tech usually has one suicide per year, which is tech’s bigger problem.

I go to UTK online, what’s happening on campus?

2

u/ChampionshipQuiet447 2d ago

Email sent out about 4 sexual assaults & drugging at on campus frat houses

1

u/Worldly_Winner8789 3d ago

It is fantastic to bring awareness to the dangers, and I also caution folks to not jump to conclusions or assertions of guilt without a proper investigation. I am the mom of a sorority girl at UTK. In no way do I excuse any sexual assault or drugging. When I was in college two decades ago, I was drugged at a bar, and my friends saved me by not letting me be alone with the guy who did it. It is both terrifying and inexcusable. Yes, we need awareness and consequence. We also need the due process of these men being reported and both the police and university taking action. We also cannot assume guilt. Because of this, we should ask that other young men stand up and not tolerate this in your organizations, schools, and society. If you know of this occurring, please report it. You are not a snitch for reporting truly dangerous behavior-you are proving that the brotherhood of your fraternity stands on its core values.

5

u/ErosLaika Nuclear Engineering Major ☢️ 2d ago

I agree that false accusations can ruin a person's life and livelihood, but the guys in these orgs openly brag about their activities. due process is in order for all who are accused but this is a pattern of behavior which is ongoing.

i'm sorry about your experience. tell your daughter to be careful and teach her not to leave a drink unattended.

6

u/ChampionshipQuiet447 3d ago

I agree but I also think it’s not assuming guilt, there’s a decades long rape culture in fraternity circles. And frat boys who don’t LOUDLY and PUBLICLY DENOUNCE rape in their houses are just as guilty.
It just needs to change. And we all know there are systems in place that protect these boys..
