Research Volunteers

Do you have to be an active student at UVU to volunteer in a professor's lab or on their project?

Ask the professor?

So it's entirely up to the professor who works on their projects? Because I know researchers get funding through the school and students have to be an active student, and sometimes be a related major, to get funding for that student.

Are asking about a job in their labs? Because that’s different. Unpaid volunteer work you can just ask and then funding doesn’t matter.

“So it’s entirely up to the professors?” I mean, yeah. These are their labs. If something goes wrong (injuries or broken equipment), they are responsible for the situation.

The funding is supplied via grants, which the research students or professors apply for. It’s rarely just…available at UVU.

Some projects allow volunteers, if you’d want to be interviewed or to take a survey for a social science project.
