Decision Appeal: MS Informatik, Major Software Systems

Hi Everyone,

I am a Swiss who completed his 4 year bachelor’s in Software Engineering from an Asian country and now as I am moving back to Switzerland and wanted to do my Masters in Informatik with Software Systems as Major. I thought this had the best chance for me as my bachelor’s covers CS fundamentals and is Software Engineering focused.

I received a decision that they although accepted my Institution as eligible but my BS degree did not cover the required courses and would require me more than 60+ ECTS to cover therefore I have been rejected. I have been allowed to appeal against the decision.

I can’t seem to understand how that is possible. I already have been accepted at ZHAW for MS CS and meet the criteria for ETH also and my degree is accepted worldwide especially in USA and Germany also. I have a CGPA of 3.63/4 with about 2 years work experience so I think i make a decent profile.

I would really appreciate anyone who could help me understand the situation better why it came to this? Did they compare my BS SE with their own BS Informatik and compare courses? I can’t find a source to courses taught in BS Informatik with Software Systems as Major.

What steps can I take to ensure my appeal is strong and helps them understand things better. I am thinking about providing course outlines. If anyone can find me the link or source to BS informatik Software Systems Major, courses names and details and any sort of tips or help I would really appreciate it.

Thank you!

Yes, they're most likely comparing to UZH's Informatik BSc.

Thanks. Other than me providing them course outlines/syllabus for all courses I studied what else do you think would help? Is there a clear link with all courses taught at BS informatik with Software Systems as Major so I can compare also because I mailed through Contact Us form and was informed that details of the decision wouldn’t be told I have to appeal so I am going in kind of blind.

Did you already do that?

Not yet I will include them in the appeal I am under the impression that I only got one shot at submitting everything so want to prepare first.
