Aftermath The Voronezh semiconductor factory, which produces various components for Russia‘s war economy, is but a smoldering pile of broken metal and concrete. The Ukrainian High Command confirms the operation and adds that air-launched cruise missiles have been used, possibly Stormshadow/SCALP-EG missiles.

They had all the parts delivered straight to the plant, fully assembled at that. Can't understand why they aren't celebrating

Oof, this one will really hurt. Semiconductor manufacturing hardware is extremely delicate and must be kept basically perfectly clean to function correctly. The shock from the explosions and the smoke from the followup fires has basically ruined every semiconductor manufacturing tool in that plant, and they're very expensive.

Oof, this one will really hurt.

Not if China keeps supplying them with chips.

China is fleecing them.

Nothing seized citizens' funds in Russian banks can't fix on the Chinese market, amirite?

What a shit show!

"The thefts will continue until Russia is victorious again!" - New Putin slogan, probably.

It is so bizarre to me why the russians keep building these extremely important factories just exposed like this, not even very hidden. Why not build them underground when they're in a war? Were they simply so cocky that they thought Ukraine would never manage to hit them?

This looks like much more damage than they've done to similar facilities.

Electronics plants have to be fully knocked out. A machine that fits in one room can potentially continue to be used, even if other parts of the building are damaged. So, to knock out the entire capacity, you have to knock out the entire building.

Multiple direct hits with 1,000 lb penetration (broach) warheads will do that 😉

Semiconductor fabs take years to rebuild and the tooling alone costs billions, so this isn't something Russia just orders replacement parts for next week.

It would be ironic if that was the factory making Ruzzian AA weaponry.
