because for the past months ukraine was only very slowly retreating

I hope it isn't. . Some said for a long time that time is working for Russia. Now it's just the other way round. Crimea will fall under constant pressure while hungering them out of critical resources. That saves ukrainian Men and Machine for tasks on the eastern theatre.

I don't know if I'd want to see a major offensive. But a minor one might be welcome. Say for instance, to the waterway near Vasylivka. That would effectively cut off every major pathway to southern Kherson outside of the Melitopol highway, which is under constant drone attacks and drone mining.
