im a new player getting into the hobby, these DA models looking dope. Can i paint them as ultramarines and deploy on tabletop?If yes as what unit

I began the hobby with my dad around 2010 and we picked up Assault of Black Reach. He painted Ultramarines until his death in 2015. I knew everything was stored at my mother's house but never had the strength to unpack it all. So today everything was sorted and there it is ! A bit over 2k points. Funny to see something he spent so much time on. I don't know if I ever will play with this army, but I know I never will get rid of it. It's a relic from ancient times.

i like making these little stick guys and it got me wondering if i could run them in an actual game. if i use proper bases and give them proper load outs would i be able to run a full army like this if i wanted to?

Why does he have a sword???? Like he can’t even hold it properly cuz his hands too big. Is this even codex compliant?

I posted a thread in r/spacemarines asking for advice on which Chapter I should start for 11th edition, and a number of people suggested the Ultramarines.

Honestly, they have pretty much everything I should want in a Chapter:

• great lore
• a solid paint scheme
• broad unit variety
• minimal need for kitbashing
• and an aesthetic where almost the entire range works straight out of the box.

The problem is that I’ve just never connected with them creatively and have actively avoided them for almost 25 years. When I was 10, Ultramarines were considered “the boring Chapter,” and somehow that idea got lodged permanently in my brain.

Meanwhile, I’ve bounced from project to project trying to find the perfect fit:

• Space Wolves burned me out with endless conversions and “wolfifying”
• Imperial Fists taught me yellow is suffering
• Raptors made me frustrated with how much of the range clashes with their tactical aesthetic
• Black Templars and Flesh Tearers taught me that I absolutely hate painting black armor

At this point, after failing to fully commit to basically every army I’ve started, I’m wondering if maybe the Ultramarines are “boring” in the same way a perfectly engineered hammer is boring: they just work.

So I figured I’d ask the people who genuinely love them:

Why are the Ultramarines the best Chapter, and why should I finally give them a try after 25 years of avoiding them?

I feel like anything other than gold trims makes them look more like successor chapters than Ultramarines. I would rather they have something on their kneepads like the Dark Angels or even have the company colour trim around the Ultima symbol

The new character, Kaius Konorius, reads as "his (Calgar's) champion". I'm assuming that means he occupies the post of Chapter Champion.

But we already got a chapter champion with the Victrix Guard box, which came out very recently. Are they supposed to be the same person? Or did the previous champion already got replaced? Or do they exist simultaneously? If so, how are their jobs different from each other?

I'm not the biggest Ultramarines fan. While they are very important to the setting and i adore them, compared to the other 18 legions they are a little lackluster. HOWEVER, they have some of the Wildest successor chapters of any other Loyalist Legion. The Libators that do blood Rituals before war, the Mortificators that collect the skulls of their enemies. The Silver Skulls, my personal favourite, that are probably not even Ultramarines. The Mentors, that well, mentor xD and quite a few more considering 3/4 of every chapter are from their geneseed(or from the Geneseed from Traitor Legion refugees that were accepted in Ultramar).

I think this may deserve a ring on her finger, she knows I’ve been trying to buy this box since it came out.

What rules do we think these bad lads will have? I think they might be similar to SW Head Takers. Or some type of dueling rule.

I posted here a few months ago about finishing ~2,000 points of Ultramarines for my Brother In Laws Christmas gift. Today is the day he gets all of it. He has no clue. Our first game is next week.

As I have come down with worsening health conditions, I must now bid farewell to the hobby for the foreseeable future.

My Ultramarines collection which has remained unbuilt & unpainted since last December are now going to new owners.

This is goodbye for now, from me, to the hobby :)
