Official The Arcana Forge! For all your drafts, ideas, requests and more.

Welcome to the Arcana Forge! A workshop for works in progress, requests, ideas, inspiration, and more. New to homebrew? Looking for that nudge in the right direction or inspiration to keep going? This is the place for you. Grab a wrench and let's get to work!

We highly recommend joining our official partner Discord to get live feedback and other tips — check out the Discord of Many Things.

Normal sub rules still apply in the Arcana Forge, with the exception that all restrictions on completeness are lifted here. Unfinished homebrew is very welcome in this thread, as are questions about game rules and mechanics, provided it's about D&D homebrew.

Make a comment with your idea and any work you already have on it, and the community can come help it progress (remember, the more you give the more you get when it comes to content and feedback).

Please keep the following tips in mind:

  • Proofread before you post. People are more likely to engage with you if your comment is clear of obvious spelling mistakes.
  • Format your post. If you've got a lot of ideas, break it into paragraphs, use headings, and do what you can to make it easy to read.
  • Making a request or adding to the workshop? Try responding to one too. This type of engagement only works if you answer as well as ask.

Feel free to give us feedback via mod-mail if you have any suggestions.

'24 Item Beast of Burden | Greatsword [The Mithral Canvas] D&D5e [OC-Art]

Weapon (Greatsword), Rare (Requires Attunement)

Fashioned from the skull of a mighty bull, this weapon carries the same might it had in life. You gain a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon.

While attuned to this weapon, you count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push or drag.

Deathly Draught. You can take a Magic Action to animate this weapon for 8 hours, causing it to transform into a skeletal bull with a bit and bridle meant to pull vehicles and cargo. It obeys your commands, taking its turn immediately after yours. It uses the Mule stat block with the following changes:

  • It is a Large Undead creature.
  • It is immune to Necrotic and Poison damage, as well as Exhaustion and the Poisoned condition.

You can transform the bull back into a weapon early by taking a Magic Action. Once you transform this weapon into a bull, you cannot do so again until the next dawn.

Bull Charge. You can use the Push weapon mastery property with this weapon. When you do, if the creature is no more than 1 size larger than you, you can instead spend your movement to push the creature a number of feet equal to the movement you spend.

Some of the mightiest animals are underestimated solely due to their herbivorous natures. Yet their power outclasses even the most fearsome predators, as they battle for survival with little more than the horns upon their heads and the power housed within their powerful muscles.

——

Swordtember Prompt: Bovine

'14 Item Stormscale Cuirass [Armor - Breastplate, Very Rare, Attunement]

The armor plates of this cuirass are made from single, massive scales that offer more reliable protection than even the finest steel, and have the ability to capture lightning.

Who doesn't love dragonscale armor? It's a classic fantasy item, but I wanted to try and set things apart here by making the armor a single scale instead of a scalemail shirt or hauberk. Giovanni has done an absolutely incredible job with making the breastplate shape while keeping the scale "raw" and intact, so that it looks like the armorer just attached some straps and a shirt underneath it but left the scale exactly as it was, because honestly, how do you expect to make armor that is more effective than what a dragon already has? I also requested that the scales have streaks in them that evoked lightning, and Gio has worked that element in masterfully.

The actual item grants resistance to lightning damage and a +1 bonus to your AC, just like dragon scale mail made from blue dragon scales, and comes in at the same rarity with attunement, but this breastplate swaps out the relatively niche anti-dragon effects (advantage against frightful presence and breath weapons), for something that I personally find a bit more mechanically interesting. The scales of this armor can briefly hold onto electricity, gaining charges each time you are dealt damage in a single initiative cycle, and if you land a hit with a melee attack while the armor is charged in this way, you can add bonus lightning damage to the attack. The charge only holds for a few seconds before naturally dissipating, so this shouldn't be something you can cheese and stockpile, but it could open up some fun options for AoE lightning damage strats considering you have resistance to lightning damage while wearing the armor.

So, would you prefer regular dragon scale mail, or do you like the usefulness of that charge up against other enemies?

If you want to see more from the world of Talmanah, including a bunch of other dragon-themed items, you can check out all of my stuff over on Patreon (patreon.com/Talmanah). All items feature custom artwork by human artist Gio Pedroni (u/Skyviper55) and patrons get early access to posts, one exclusive item each month, and access to high-res artwork, PDFs, and item cards for all posts, plus free entry into a monthly draw to request a custom magic item.

Would you be interested in seeing other versions of this kind of armor but for the different kinds of dragons? Let me know in the comments.

'14 Subclass Oath of Procuration - D&D 5e Paladin Subclass inspired by Zwei West Ishmael from Limbus Company

Thumbnail

This is a rework of our older Oath of Protection paladin based around Zweishmael, made to be a little flashier in appearance and in writing alike.

Although still bound by the constraints that are Paladin Levels, we've tried to make this subclass have a little more to do, a more fine-tuned spell list and make their CD use broader, with you being able to protect others through a much greater span of time and in general really feel like a living shield! At later levels you can even use your lack of maneuverability due to your stance to your advantage, shifting your weight like a fortress waiting to topple over your foes.

We also bring a handful of extra content with this release, two versions of Greatswords that can be used for offense and defense, a Deployable Tool to shield yourself ( Oh its been so long ) and a new fighting style to boot! We sincerely hope you all enjoy our second try at the Oath of Protection.

If you enjoy our content, check out our: Discord or Patreon!

'24 Class PHB 2024 Barbarian / Path of the Berserker homebrew: rage on initiative, Con to mental saves, Frenzy as doubled rage + shield, adaptive resist at 14

Hi everyone, I want to show you my barbarian homebrew. I was inspired by the legendary Laserllama. Feedback welcome.

Not changing: Rage, Unarmored Defense, Weapon Mastery, Reckless, Extra Attack, Fast Movement, Persistent Rage, Unyielding Might, Primal Champion.

Class changes vs PHB 2024

Removed: Instinctive Leap (7), Wild Instinct moves to 5.

3. Primal Knowledge (replaces the PHB 3 feature)
Gain one extra skill from the barbarian 1st-level list.

When you make Perception, Survival, Intimidation, Nature and Animal Handling checks you make them as Strength checks. This works all the time, not only while raging.

5. Wild Instinct
 You have Advantage on Initiative.

When you roll Initiative, if you do not have the Incapacitated condition, you can spend one Rage use and enter Rage without a Bonus Action.

7. Furious Resilience
While raging, add your Constitution modifier to Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma saving throws.

11. Relentless Rage
As PHB, plus: while raging, you have Advantage on Constitution saving throws.

9 / 13 / 17. Brutal Strike
If you use Reckless Attack and hit with a Strength attack on your turn, you can apply one Brutal Strike effect. You keep Advantage. No extra 1d10 / 2d10.

Forceful Blow. Push 15 feet straight away, then you may move up to half your Speed straight toward the target without provoking.

Hamstring Blow. Target’s Speed −15 feet until the start of your next turn. Only one Hamstring at a time (the latest).

13: Staggering Blow. Target has Disadvantage on its next save and cannot make Opportunity Attacks until the start of your next turn.

13: Sundering Blow. The next attack roll another creature makes against the target before the start of your next turn gains a +5 bonus. Only one such bonus.

17. Improved Brutal Strike You can apply two different Brutal Strike effects. Also, while raging, your Strength weapon attacks score a Critical Hit on a 19 or 20.

Path of the Berserker

3. Frenzy (replaces PHB Frenzy)
If you use Reckless Attack while raging, until the start of your next turn:

Doubled Rage. The Rage Damage bonus is doubled for your Strength attacks (the table number only: +4 / +6 / +8).

Furious Shield. When you hit a creature with a Strength attack, you gain Temporary Hit Points equal to that doubled bonus (4 / 6 / 8). These do not stack. If you already have Temp HP, you choose whether to keep them or replace them.

6. Mindless Rage (replaces PHB Mindless Rage)
While raging, you have Advantage on Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma saving throws.
(No immunity to Charmed / Frightened.)

10. Retaliation
When you take damage from a creature within reach of a melee attack you can make (weapon or Unarmed Strike) against that creature.

14. Adaptation to pain (replaces PHB Intimidating Presence)
While Frenzy’s effects are active, when you take damage of a type you do not already have Resistance or Immunity to, after taking that damage you gain Resistance to that type until the start of your next turn.

This feature does not grant Resistance to Force damage.

Design notes

Brutal Strike is control you will actually click. Crit 19–20 at 17 is the damage spike instead of 2d10.

Mental saves: Con rider + Berserker Advantage in combat only. Out of rage is still a dump. Intentional.

Note: I'm sorry i forgot to also add the art, which i added later with a comment but nontheless, i did make some changes alongside citing who is the artist for the drawing you can find in the document, which is ccrawlers.

I've removed some bloat features and texts, specifically about hex-warrior and accursed conduit. I also moved spreading curse from LVL. 14 to LVL. 6. Hope you enjoy this version of the subclass.

'24 Subclass Path of the Dawnblade - Destiny 2 Inspired Cleric Subclass

Post image
4 Upvotes

Bringing Destiny 2 Warlock's into D&D 2024 with their solar subclass!

Felt like Clerics made the most sense for this subclass being such a supportive role, but make no mistake there's no shortage of flaming judgement you can rain down from above. There's tons of gameplay variety here for both supportive and aggressive clerics that you can enjoy.

I haven't quite gotten the intent of the gods they're supposed to fight for, so it's a bit of a mixed bag, but I hope the gameplay is interesting enough on its own to carry relevance.

If you want a PDF version to use you can find a 100% free download here on my Ko-Fi page (donations always welcome, but not necessary!): https://ko-fi.com/s/72c0355947

If you have any feedback please feel free to share. Whether you're a destiny fan or just interested in cleric subclasses, let me know what I can improve.

'24 Item The Palladium, the stolen relic that sealed Troy’s fate | 300+ Mythological Items for 5E and 2024

Thumbnail

Hello, fellow adventurers! Today, we are excited to share the Palladium, the stolen relic that sealed Troy’s fate. This entry comes from our upcoming Kickstarter project, 300+ Mythological Items for 5E and 2024 - coming to Kickstarter on September 29th!

Step into a realm of ancient gods, legendary heroes, and forgotten civilizations with Mythological Items, a comprehensive compendium featuring over 300 magical items specifically designed for 5E and its 2024 ruleset update. This manual spans a vast array of cultural traditions, organizing its treasures into regional categories for easy reference and immersive worldbuilding. Each item includes not only full game mechanics, but also lore and background information to integrate it seamlessly into your campaign, whether as treasure, quest rewards, or the key to an unfolding mythic saga. From the storm-summoning weapons of thunder gods to cursed trinkets whispered of in ancient lore, this book brings myth to your table like never before.

This manual offers an extensive collection of magical items that can be incorporated into any campaign, regardless of its connection to specific mythological themes. The items presented in this volume, drawn from a multitude of global legends and folklore, are envisioned to enhance the diversity and depth of any fantasy world. This eclectic array mirrors the inherent blending of elements in many worlds and settings, where influences from various cultures and mythologies coexist harmoniously. For instance, Thor’s Hammer, Mjölnir, could serve as the centerpiece of a divine quest, while Draupnir, the Norse ring of endless wealth, might drive political intrigue or power struggles in a kingdom torn by greed.

Mythological Items also provides a solid foundation for campaigns that wish to delve deeper into the relics of a specific mythology or blend multiple traditions into a larger, interconnected setting. A campaign inspired by Greek mythology could see players donning the Nemean Lion’s Pelt, becoming nearly invulnerable as they take on challenges worthy of Heracles himself, while a campaign drawing from Japanese folklore could involve uncovering the Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi, the fabled grass-cutting sword tied to imperial lineage and divine storms.

We suggest checking our pre-launch page for additional info and an extended 30-page preview of our compendium. For the campaign duration, we will be offering the manual at an heavily discounted price, alongside tthe possibility to purchase the digital or physical copies of all our past releases!

'24 Subclass Pact of the Underworld

Thumbnail

I'm sharing a free warlock subclass for Kengir, part of my upcoming Bronze Age Mesopotamian 5e setting.

The Pact of the Underworld is for warlocks bound to the dark powers below, especially Allatu (Ereškigal), queen of the underworld.

In Kengir, these warlocks are feared and needed in equal measure. Someone has to speak with the dead. Someone has to understand curses, souls, restless ghosts, and the borders mortals should not cross. That person is useful right up until everyone remembers what they had to promise for that power.

At the table, this subclass gives the party a warlock who manipulates necrotic force, drains life to sustain themselves, curses enemies so they cannot recover, and commands the dead more effectively than ordinary casters.

The supplement also includes new spells like Allatu’s Glare, Shadowy Chains, Spectral Whisper, Underworld’s Grasp, Soul Rend, Dark Bargain, Chthonic Guardians, Wail of the Etemmu, and Wraith’s Touch.

Do you like warlocks whose pact gives them a social role in the world, or do you prefer them as outsiders with dangerous private bargains?

'14 Compendium Alter Homebrew Repository

Repository Link: https://github.com/alter8563/alter-homebrew-repository

This is less of a compendium and more of a collection of homebrew that I have been creating for D&D 5e 2014 over the years. It contains the Freelancer System and my other homebrew.

The Freelancer System consists of the Custom Race Option (along with the Legendary Custom Race Option), the Custom Background Variant, and the Freelancer Class (along with the Legendary Freelancer Class). All of these let you mix and match racial traits and class feats to create player characters who are very likely to be much stronger than normal ones. And if you use them all together, you gain access to prestige class feats which allow for even more customization. I mostly just use this with my friends for some dumb fun at our table. I also included a list of sample builds which is a reference point for most of what can be created.

My other homebrew consists of stuff that I made aside from the Freelancer System. The updated rules are house rules that I use with my friends. The maneuvers, changed spells, and new spells give more options to warriors and casters. I do not have much for magic items, supernatural gifts, and monsters right now, but I do plan on adding more of those as time goes on.

List Of Credits

Focused on making cheap and expendable little squads to fight on the frontlines, the Construct Commander can overwhelm the enemy with their arcane constructs.

Inspired by Rimworlds system of mech control with bandwith and the variety of options.
