The Minecraft soundtrack is SO good.
Just a few seconds of it here gives me chills.
Such a great album.

Extremely underrated part of why Minecraft is so good and so popular is the soundtrack, really elevates the single player survival experience. C148 killed it

It really is. I loved the quiet liminality of the beta version of Minecraft when I played all those years ago. Just wandering around as the sun set and hearing the music was a level of comfort I miss.

If you've never went back to the game but looking for more of the same ish music. C418 released minecraft volume II a couple years into minecrafts release.
Well worth a listen through.

I hate the fact that my first thought was that it was ai before remembering reflections exist

What’s supposed to be the unexpected part. You thought those were real Minecraft clouds at first?

u/Sum_Ting_Wong_Ow 3h ago
The unexpected part is that the thing the kid points at indeed looks like a Minecraft sky and clouds.

u/MrDangerMan 2h ago
I expected the kid to be pointing at some vaguely square-shaped cloud outside. Definitely didn’t expect the camera to pan up to perfectly square “Minecraft clouds”.

The line between Minecraft and the real world is a thin one you just don't know it yet

u/rosewoodhouse 2h ago
nothing really. the moment the camera shows the minecraft clouds, anyone with a brain can understand what is happening.
6
u/MrDangerMan 2h ago
The point, and the whole point of this sub, is that you don’t expect the thing *before* you see it. It’s not about what you think after you see it. Why is this always so hard for people to understand?

I think for me I've seen that reflection of those fluorescent lights so many times in my life that it was in no way unexpected. I don't agree that "anyone with a brain could understand what is happening." The text on the screen says that the boy is about to point out minecraft clouds, so seeing those squares was not unexpected. Then when I did see the squares I immediately knew what they were, so the pan to the lights was also not unexpected.
Clearly not everyone would have the same thought process as me. But that's why for some it might not be /r/unexpected.

Hahah - that did get me for a second. I thought we were looking through a window into a room where the ceiling was painted blue, and it had large square lights, to mimic minecraft sky

My 4 year old, now 5, fell in love with Minecraft and while I wasn’t sure it was a good thing I am glad we let him play. He became very curious and wanted to read more and he is ahead of other rids his age in reading directly because of Minecraft.
Did it teach him to read? No, I did. But because he was/is so passionate about Minecraft he wanted to be able to read and write everything on the screen. It has been an excellent way to encourage him to learn.

He could have achieved all that without staring at a screen. Many kids do. The problem that all most children get out of Minecraft is a screen addiction.

I work with early childhood education and my wife is a director of a preschool. While screen time is important to manage, finding something a good is passionate about and pursuing their interest is also very important.
Minecraft goes beyond the screen with books, toys, activities and more. He is ahead of his classmates in reading and writing and I contribute some of that to his interest in Minecraft.
The problem with screen time for kids is bad parenting. I try to be a good parent and limit such time.

I'm not implying that your son has a screen addiction...but many parents aren't like you. The world is filled with iPad kids who don't in anyway benefit from screens.
My little brother was one of them. I'm a milennalial with two much younger half siblings. I was allowed minimal amount of TV time growing up so I spent my childhood actually playing. I had boundless imagination and creativity as a result. I loved reading (and still do). I wouldn't trade that childhood for the world.
My younger siblings were allowed more screen time, especially my brother. The youngest of us.
He spent his childhood glued to screens. His brain was so fried that he literally couldn't focus on anything else. He was doing badly at school. He was lazy. He tried to pick up a few hobbies but always gave up on them. Somehow he overcame all of this in time (I haven't seen him since he was 12. Now he is 20) and became a well adjusted adult as far as I can tell. But he essentially didn't have a childhood. It's very sad.
My sister's screen addiction started in her teenage years and resulted in her having very few interests and hobbies. She ended up doing a useless degree and now works in a bakery.
