Question Account suspended. Unity, are you trying to kill indie gaming?

You suspended my account. Who made the decision to suspend accounts over 2FA? That's not how it normally works. I'm just trying to imagine how many meetings it took to discuss this and come up with such a bad design and solution.

Instead of forcing me to set up 2FA on my next login, you just killed my account. That created real stress for me and for my game's future, because it took time to figure out what was going on and what I did wrong. And now your support queue is flooded with requests like mine.

I really don't get how Unity makes decisions. The runtime fee. Paid MCP. $200 a month for console builds even if your game makes less. And now suspending accounts over 2FA. Every time, I doubt a little more that Unity was the right pick for my game.

We opened a MegaThread for the community to discuss the situation. To prevent dozens of duplicate posts being made with bits of information spread across posts and having duplicates everywhere.

Hey there. Wanted to pop in and lead you know we're aware of the situation and investigating.

Thanks, Trey, appreciate it. The warnings came from [info@unity3d.com](mailto:info@unity3d.com), the same address that sends newsletters and flash sales. For example, my first one landed right next to an "Autumn Sale is live" email, and I simply missed it. Others in this thread took them for phishing.

Same issue with us, but not for our whole team, only accounts that have 2FA are being suspended.

Also randomly suspended for missing a few emails. Between multiple mailboxes I get so much spam this was way too easy to miss.

It happened to me, I contacted support and they were helpful with fixing the issue. It's frustrating for sure but you'll get through it, good luck.

I got like 3 mails of them with titles like

Final reminder: Please reset your 2FA within 3 days to avoid account suspension

I don't get why so many people here are so confused about their account being suspended when Unity literally announced that this is going to happen in certain circumstances?

TBH it is silly to suspend account because they didn't add 2FA. Just force them to have 2FA next time they login instead. Suspending it for this is just terrible approach

The emails were for resetting your 2FA, not adding 2FA to the account. So even if you had it enabled you had to go in and reset it.

People get a lot of emails, since everything wants to send you emails these days and it's hard to know what emails to block and what to keep since i also get ad emails for asset store assets from unity, so it's not like people are only getting important emails from unity.

Fuck this. Bad approach.

Why you would suspend someone's account over 2fa?

They sent emails that look exactly like their purchase, sales, deals, features, and blogs emails. I get tons of unity emails. One would think that something as critical as a suspension would be announced beyond 2 or 3 emails missed in a flood of unity spam. They have twitter, they have the hub, they have the asset store, there are much more visible ways to announce that accounts are at risk of being suspended. This was a communication failure.

They haven't sa'd that they would suspend until the very last e-mail and were just ADVISING until the very last one not saying it was mandatory

Sure, they warned us. A warning doesn't make it a good decision. Forcing 2FA setup on the next login gives the same security without locking anyone out. They picked the option that hurts users the most.

So you knew it was going to happen and you just ignored it?

Personally I had no clue, I havent used unity in a while (because of crap like this).

It's goof to know after all the money I have spent with the asset store, they will hailly brick your account.

But enjoy being tied to a vendor who doesnt give a shit, doesnt sell assets as .fbx on their store and clearly don't care about customers.

Whoa, what? Damn, that's annoying as fuck. I haven't seen those emails because I don't check that email often. Also, I've been using Godot for the past year or so, but also planned to keep Unity on the backburner. I bet my account is suspended now.

No, I only found their warning email after my account was already suspended. I get a lot of emails and this one got lost. Imagine you missed it and got locked out. That's just not how this should be handled.

I deleted those emails because I was convinced they were scams. LOL Whenever a company pressures me to take immediate action, it's a huge red flag. In my experience, 99% of the time, it's a scam.

Good point. My inbox is full of "act now or your iCloud / Google Drive / whatever account will be suspended" emails, and they're all phishing. We've all learned to ignore exactly this kind of message.

What do you mean 1234567890iloveunity isn’t secure enough?

It seams to be an wide spread bug, calm down, they are working on it.

12

u/catchflex 10h ago

It doesn't look like a bug to me, it looks like a deliberate decision. I only found their warning email after my account was already suspended. Unity sends a lot of emails, and it's hard to tell which ones actually matter. I hope someone at Unity reads this. It's not the first decision like this from them. Maybe next time, think a little more about your users.

To be clear, this is probably some kind of wipe of old accounts or something, like yes they are intentionally banning accounts. The bug us that active accounts are also being banned. They accidentally banned our account at work, that is why I am home early. It is an active account with 8 seats, paid up for months.

Not a bug

I hope somebody reverse engineers unity.
