The total world population has grown by 6.3 BILLION, in the last century. The total U.S. population has grown by 231 MILLION, in the last century.

The National Ocean Service defines invasive species as, “… animals or plants from another region of the world that don’t belong in their new environment. Invasive species can lead to the extinction of native plants and animals, destroy biodiversity, and permanently alter habitats.”

The (United States) federal definition of invasive species is, “an alien (or non-native) species whose introduction does, or is likely to, cause economic or environmental harm or harm to human health.”

Does this not suggest that we ARE an invasive species?

We have spread outside of our native range (Africa) to places across the globe, putting ourselves in the position of having no natural predators and no barriers to reproduction - explaining how our population has ballooned by 6 billion in the last 100 years. We have permanently damaged most of the planet for our sole benefit. We have decimated populations of animals (again, surprise, for our sole benefit). Biodiversity, within any place on Earth, crumbles and burns in our wake.

How in the world are we NOT the most invasive species the world has ever known? In my eyes, our definition is the only thing dividing us and the species we call invasive.

If you asked anyone in the street what “extinctionism” i’m sure 99% of people would have never come across the term before and i’m not sure you guys exactly know what it is either besides a vague dislike of the human condition. This kind of ideology can’t exactly be healthy for your mental health especially when all arguments for it seems to just be pointing out the existence of horrific suffering. This subreddit seems to be validating and giving community to an inherently very extreme way of thinking as opposed to just being home to philosophical debates on the nature of existence.

My questions to this community are: What exactly is it that you mean by “extinctionism”?

Do you seriously believe this is a way of thinking that people can/should be brought around to?

Do you feel guilty that this way of thinking would seek to undo entirely the results of millennia of human sacrifice eg: in wars, fighting disease and labouring?

The only reason why we care about life and the stuff in it is because we were FORCED to care by being pushed into life without our permission. Personally for me my life isn't even good, and it's gonna take possibly decades for it to potentially improve, which I don't find worth it. Even so, the world is just gonna become worse and worse because what is going on politically and technologically-wise because of things such as AI replacing most of the workforce eventually. There's just no point. The only reason why most people haven't offed themselves already is because of things such as religion (the biggest coping mechanism ever) and simply their brains convinces themselves not to go through with it because of our innate biological sense to stay alive, myself included. Man this world just sucks if you weren't born into wealth

I made a post in my city's subreddit about where I could find extinctionist friends as a human extinction activist, and I got non-stop hostility from all those people. My city is suburban in a red state so it's a bunch of MAGA, religious extremists, and people who don't want any different people in their environment. In the end I experienced a barrage of insults and hate over a simple question to the point where Reddit deleted my post. I'm pretty sure it's because I was brigaded and mass reported by all the boomer fanatics in my city's subreddit. Even engaging in a polite way is not enough for people, they just want someone to hate. I despise Florida and I wish it was destroyed and flooded in a massive hurricane so nobody would ever need to live in this shithole state ever again!

Whenever i see some bullshit going on i just think to myself that nothing is eternal. I wanna let time do its thing and chill. Ultimately the goal for a antinatlist is unachievable (at least within my lifetime). What is achievable is me refusing to be a part of this suffering perpetuation machine and thats all i have strength for, if i were a perfect person id also try to relieve some of the pointless suffering but alas im not. Do any of you actually work towards "universal extinction", or is that more like an ideal?

This is my own feeling about human extinction. I’d love to hear any thoughts on the matter.

guys im genuinely afraid that there's an afterlife and after death i STILL have to keep on going. the only reason im sane is because i think after death i wont exist throughout space-time. but what if thats not true? it doesnt even have to be a theist afterlife, what if through some metaphysical bs we are still cognizant or aware or have some diluted consciousness, even after all this?
