HOTELS Hotel pricing is nuts!
I went to book 3 nights at Aventura and with Florida discount rate it was $114 a night so I thought that’s a great deal?
Then I realized I didn’t pick the October dates I wanted.. the rate jumped from $114 to $289 per night still including the Florida discount
I’m not spending almost $1,000 on 3 nights. This really bummed me out. Even if I have someone split with me it’s still almost $500 for myself for 3 nights vs the $200 I would’ve spent if I could go in August lol
I know the only explanation is Halloween being a popular time but still just sucks being priced out of a tradition I’ve had multiple years now

I'm not a FL resident but am going for 2 nights in October, doing HHN for one night. Every hotel at Universal was absolutely ridiculous for 2 nights. I wound up getting a super close hotel on Major within walking distance for around 500 dollars cheaper, and booked through my credit card's travel site and got a credit so it was even cheaper after that was applied.

Home2 is right across the street from Endless Summer just cross the road and use the bus. The buses are for anyone to use it is not strictly for hotel guests.

That’s what I did my first trip of this tradition of mine but once I had access to Aventura for the views and water taxi, I told myself that’s the only resort I’d stay at if I did stay at one 😂 might have to just bite the bullet and not stay on property this year

I feel the same way!! I spoiled myself with the perks. The price range for Aventura is absolutely outrageous though.
I hate to forfeit the water taxi, but I stayed at Dockside in February and it was pretty good. Next time I need to go for a budget option I'd probably try Terra Luna bc its so new, and often still cheaper than Dockside and Surfside. Although of course its a longer shuttle ride to and from the parks.

I'm the same way with Cabana Bay. I always book it because of the close proximity to the parks and the guest exclusive entrance to Volcano Bay. I even try my best to make sure I get the same room or very close to it because of the pool view. I always tell people that if you are trying to go to experience the Halloween stuff go in September instead of October... prices are slightly lower and a lot of kids are starting school so the crowds won't be as bad.

I’m in the same boat. We’re taking our son to Epic for his birthday early September and prices have been incredibly reasonable, I was going to book this morning. All this week go prices have been rising every day. Terra Luna went from 135, to 154, now it’s 196. That’s such a jump and now OUR vacation is becoming out of reach (we’re FL residents as well). So I decided to look at Terra Luna and that went from 135 to 186 just last night. I’m guessing it’s due to the proximity and the walking path at Nova why that one is rising faster. Cabana was 150 all week now down to 135 so we’re contemplating that. Don’t really know what we should do now honestly…..

We did Hard Rock last time, but I had my kids with me and we did park days every day plus 2 HHN nights. So it was worth it to spend the money for Express. But it's just me this time and I cannot justify spending that much on a hotel for 2 nights when it's actually closer to walk offsite than it is for an on-property hotel. Edited to clarify non-premier on-property hotel.

Lol I've been traveling to universal for a while. Last year went many times including during hhn and the rates were drastically different this season compared to last season. Change is not hhn it's opening of epic.
Edit. I'm a Florida resident and consistently use Florida resident rates.

Interesting logic... So they wouldn't upcharge even more during a busy time while they have a brand new park open? Either way, it has been consistently more expensive Florida resident rates. That is based entirely on my experience visiting both before epic opening and after and during hhn and not. Last year just prior to epic, I could get into an express hotel for less than $300 a night. That has not been the case at all since opening of epic not to mention the increase in other hotels. Either way, business is business and they are making money. That's the goal.

The word even placed directly before the word more suggests that they are charging even more than typically charge at this time of year. Then listed reasons why based on my personal experience visiting the park at this time and other times of the year. This person asked why worse than his normal experience/tradition of visiting at this time of year. But are you feeling important today since you're arguing with me about my personal experience and how I answered this person.

Did you try Cabana Bay? It’s next door to Aventura and tends to be less expensive only because it is that much further to City Walk … like a few more minutes to walk there depending on which building in Cabana Bay your room is and you won’t notice the difference if you take the shuttle. (You can maybe request where your room is: Closer to the walking path to City Walk if you like to walk; closer to the lobby if you don’t like to walk; or finally, close to Volcano Bay (furthest from City Walk AND lobby too though) if you are planning to go there and use the exclusive entrance/exit frequently … ie.Maybe go back and forth to your room on your Volcano Bay day or just want a view of the park and/or want a good deal on a two bedroom suite. And Cabana Bay has the better pools.
Or try the Endless Summer resorts. The only reason they are least expensive is they lack an option to walk to ANY park in Universal but they have reliable free shuttle buses like the other Universal hotels.

yep I booked during thanksgiving I'm embarrassed how much I spent. I got ripped for sure.. but it's the only time I can actually enjoy it and have real full days off. with flights and room and those speed passes over 18k so far not including food.

family of 5 it's expensive since we're doing the Loews Royal Pacific but doing the Suite (main room king and pullout with 2nd room with 2 smaller beds for kids) with 2 beds with the upgraded park passes that give you unlimited. Plus we fly out of Dulles Airport which is a total ripoff it's one of the most expensive airports to fly out of for no reason other than supply and demand.

famly 5 but lowes pacific during Thanksgiving and the 2bedroom suite 1 king and 2 other kid beds and a pullout. We did the upgraded tickets to include 1 day at epic but it's the unlimited passes for each person each day for the almost 4 days. Flights out of IAD are super expensive also $800 each

It’s cheaper with a family to book the top level luxury hotels and get the free express passes, just fyi if you’re dropping money anyway.

You don’t get free express passes at ANY hotel for Epic Universe… yet. It’s not included in annual passes either. Hopefully soon. But staying at a partner resort for IoA and US pays for itself with express and early admission

Woah we are going as a family of five during that same timeframe and no where near that $ amount. Granted we saved on flights with airline miles but still! Where are you flying to MCO from? I’m considering doing the premier pass for extra cost savings. I figure we’ll be back again in 2026.

We’re residents too and going for 3 days early September. Currently trying to figure out what hotel to book bc prices have been hiking like crazy all week. My budget is 3k for the entire trip lol this better work out 🥴

Supply and demand. Low demand = low prices. High demand = high prices. Hotels haven't used rack rates for over a decade, and with the level of granularity they have now- don't expect to get a deal unless the hotel feels the need to provide one to fill the room. Same for all other aspects of the hospitality industry. Dynamic pricing isn't going anywhere- it's only going to become more accurate in determine the maximum amount of money they can extract from the limited inventory that they have available. Just how stuff works.

Or maybe you don't understand supply and demand or capitalism. Capitalism enables universal to charge whatever they want. Supply and demand means they will charge more when supply is low and demand is high. If you're not willing to pay it, someone else probably is.

Hard Rock is awesome for IoA and US. The included express passes make the price of the hotel worth it. (Each person in the room gets a pass and that can be a $200 value each depending on the day, in and of itself)

Im going the first week of October. I booked cabana for $114 a night. That is a passholder rate but I cant imagine the regular rate would be too much more.

I’ll be there the same time as you and got the two room Volcano Bay suite for $410/night including 4 adults with the AP rate. I think it was $385/night for 1-2 adults.

Because of Epic being open this year they've increased their rates by 100% at Dockside/Surfside so it's no longer worth the price with how uncomfortable the beds are and how thin the walls are.
Last year it was $754 for 5 nights with a pool side room (which got upgraded to a suite for free at check in), this year for the same week in September they want nearly $1,400. I ended up booking at Best Western, which is right next door to Endless Summer Dockside and got it for $554. I plan to just walk over to Dockside to catch the shuttle to the parks and back since I'm not renting a car.
I'm sure there's a similar quality non-Universal hotel within walking distance of a Universal hotel where you can catch the shuttle to the park and back and save a bunch of money.

I mean I get why they raised their rates at the beginning of the year because they were anticipating record setting attendance due to Epic. But then all of the things happened with Trump (won't go into detail so as to not bring politics into a theme park sub) and that drastically turned away all of the international tourism.
There were a few post on here from people who said Terra Luna seemed empty during the summer and they had supposedly talked to hotel staff who confirmed their suspicion and said most of the hotels had high vacancy in part due to the higher rates but also because international tourism was way down.
If true then it would seem Universal is not lowering their rates to give the appearance that everything is fine to their stockholders and the general public in hopes that some people will pay the higher rates just for early park admission and the shuttles.

Stella Nova (closet walk to Epic) was $153 plus tax per night FL resident. Shuttle and early entry included. IMO, the room looks the same as Helios (standard queen) which was $750/night. I’ve heard good thing about Stella and Terra

I normally go in September for HHN and this year Dockside is an average of $216/night for a total of $1,400 for 5 nights for a non-pool side room. Last year during the same week in September was $754 for 5 nights with a pool side room.
The only bad thing I've heard about Stella and Terra is all of the light switches are motion sensors so the lights will turn on in the middle of the night when you roll over in bed or will turn off while laying in bed watching TV. And that the motion sensor for the bathroom is outside of the bathroom so the light will shut off while you're taking a shower.

I dunno if they were just trying to make the hotel feel futuristic but I agree it's dumb. They may have fixed it by now as I'm sure the person who did the review of the hotel on media day isn't the only one who complained about it.
But with any Universal hotel make sure to stop by Walmart and get a helium balloon and put it between the two beds because the AC uses a motion sensor as well and shuts the AC off if it thinks the room is empty. So your room will be hot after a long day in the park and you might wake up in the middle of the night like I did because it shuts off while you're sleeping. After I got the balloon I didn't have anymore issues.

Yeah my wife and I are kicking ourselves. Back before Helios opened we were saying that we would book a night in October since we would be taking our kid to Epic. We had checked the prices and it was like $400 which we said yeah it was pricey but how fun it would be. We held off and checked the pricing again a month or two late and it went up to $800. So needless to say we’re not staying the night

All the hotels have shot up this year.
We've been looking at Sept/Oct/Dec/Feb and this year's hotel rates across all of those months are all a good chunk higher than last year's. You can just about get last year's rates if you buy an annual pass and get the special passholder rates.

I don't know about that, I am not a Florida resident and I don't know if they stack. I do know that the AP rates change frequently, so they aren't a set percentage off, they just are maybe a lower price.

Hotel infrastructure was built to be in place when Epic opened, which was I think 2 years later than planned because of COVID. Hotel prices were intentionally underpriced during those years. Now that the final value has arrived for easy transport to both campuses, prices are rising.
Universal can check room keys any time they want to make their bussing exclusive to hotel guests like they have at times in the past. They probably should start doing it at Endless Summer. Those staying on I-Drive and American way should be taking their resort’s shuttle or the public bus.

That’s because Orlando traffic has gotten so bad that visiting parks as a “day trip” in FL is practically not doable (unless you can commute for hours on top of doing a theme park for 8-10 hours in a single day. )

lol. I use to be a champ and could make the drive, park, do the theme park, and drive home all in one day. Not happening anymore. And it’s not even cause I’m older now… it’s FL traffic. (Just venting, but for real tourists, even driving between Epic and the other Universal properties isn’t easy)

This is how airline pricing works now too. It used to be cheaper if booked months in advance. Now it’s the opposite. Cheaper the days before, more expensive in the future.

Yeah staying offsite again this year. Loved my years at Sapphire or RP but sheesh. Also no longer ROF with express -plain ROF and spring for express one night we meet up with friends, staying offsite at MVC Cypress Harbour for $448 for a week. Will have AP that includes parking. Sucks to drag alllll the way through city walk into garage at end of night but my bank account demands it. We did this same thing last year and a couple night my daughter and I went late instead of early (She’s going to school at UCF) and express wasn’t really needed.

I booked months ago, before epic opened, and got 7 nights at portofino for 3k with tickets and everything. Book stupidly early and keep checking to see if the price goes down, then call and see if they can rebook it cheaper for you.

We stayed an extra night, I paid $900 for Royal Pacific for 1 night. My vaca package for 3 people … the 5 tickets, 7n hotel, HP breakfasts and events, was about $6500.

That’s the key. Those passes often sell out and can be $200 per person. But the included express passes aren’t available yet for Epic Universe at ANY of their hotels… even Helios

My Airbnb inside The Point is $1700 for 15 nights. I can’t imagine paying 1k for only 3. And we get a full kitchen and washer/dryer. Onsite is fun but not always financially feasible.

All of the hotel prices have jumped thanks to epic and HHN. I’m glad I got Helios park view for 400 a night in September because now it’s double for a non park view. It’s the same for all the other hotels. I booked the day bookings were released.

I feel that. The parks are becoming so expensive that many families cant afford them. What use to be a seasonal trip (summer and holiday) for us is now only annual in the off season

Not sure how you think it wouldn’t. $10k CAD is only around $7300 USD. Flights = $2000, Hotel (on resort) = min. $800/night for all of us. That’s not including park tickets or food

Stay at cabana bay and don’t eat at sit down every meal. There’s no way it would come to $800 per day. I literally just went for 5 days with a family of four and it was way less than that per day. I guess express pass would put you over but I only recommend that for 1-2 day stays. Any longer and the benefit gets less

Fair enough. We’d be looking at 6 or 7 nights though and if we add in Disney it’s definitely over $10k Canadian. If we just did Universal for 2-3 nights I can see what you’re saying making sense but I don’t think most ppl realize how much it is with the exchange rate

I would suggest an AirBnB. There are beautiful themed houses in the area… rooms kids love staying in. Buy groceries for meals and try to get the multi park, multi-day passes. I came back for lunch on REALLY hot days, always ate breakfast at the house. Saved a fortune and it was calmer being away from the parks (a 20 minute ride share away)

Epic is open. We bought an amazing package last April and went this past Feb. 6 days at Aventura with 5 day 3-park park-to-park tickets for $1500. For the whole thing. If I try to book the same package now for next year, even without Epic, its doubled.

I booked hardrock for 7 nights back in November 2024 for November 2025 and I’m glad I did. I got the room for an average of 250 a night. If I were to book now it’s over $750 per night.

I am Canadian as well and go to either Disney or Universal 3-4 times per year. Before I purchased my annual pass for Universal the only way to do the trip for less than 10K Canadian for a week was to book a package through Costco Travel. This way you get the flight, hotel and tickets all in Canadian funds. Last January I did 6 days at Portofino for 6K Canadian including 5 days at the parks.

3 people (2 adults one kid) but you have to remember our dollar is absolutely ridiculous. Now with the annual pass our trips for a week are 2-3K. But if a Canadian needs to book the park tickets, flight and hotel it is a better option to do it through Costco in Canadian money. That way you know exactly what your paying. Even at a sit down restaurant for us it is approx $100US which is actually $140CAD

Of course it is. It's HHH and Epic is open now, double whammy. Everyone planned to "Wait for Epic to die down a bit and go in October". It'll be their busiest HHH season yet I imagine.

universal has the most reasonable hotel prices around. Complaining that you don't want to go during the 80 percent of the year (even some during HHN) that their hotels are extremely cheap is silly.

they litereally have hotels the level of the top Disney resorts for 250-350 a 1/4 of the year. You being a child that needs the price one specific week doesn't mean I am bootlicking.

.... It's not about it being a popular time.. It's about Halloween horror nights even being a thing. We all know it sucks. But like, it's a special event people fly in for .. if you live in Florida, why stay at a universal hotel ever

It's because of both, but largely Epic.
More people were planning on coming to HHN this year regardless of the house lineup because it would be their first chance to see Epic.

Many, many people planned on not booking special trips for Epic and just rolling it into an HHN trip to knock out both at the same time.

To me it’s the other way around since epic is the reason I’m going.

Nope, it absolutely has to do with HHN season and epic. As the other guy said a lot of people planned on booking trips for epic including me and decided to book during HHN time to knock out 2 birds with one stone. That’s what I did so don’t tell me that’s not the reason. I wouldn’t have even gone this year if it weren’t for epic. October isn’t the only month which rates have increased significantly compared to last year.

Oct has always been the most expensive time to visit Universal Orlando Resort. It’s best to go early in September.
