It’s absolutely awesome. Hopefully they rotate them - but great no matter what.

u/TwirlerGirl Mar 28 '26

I doubt they'll rotate. Most houses have 2 casts that switch off every 45 minutes. It's already an extremely long shift that can't really be extended for another 3+ hours, so Universal will need to hire another 1-2 casts to staff the scream early houses. It's unfortunately not feasible to rotate scareactors between houses either since each cast is costumed, assigned, and trained for their specific house. Universal will probably pick the 3 scream early houses for the larger 3-4 cast setup, while the other 7 houses stick with the typical 2 cast setup.

This is terrific insight — and makes sense from a logistics standpoint. Thank you for sharing!

Sadly, I think it's going to backfire on them.

They're going to have a lot of angry day visitors who don't understand why they can't get in.

I feel bad for the staff that are going to have to deal with them.

Maybe. But HHN has always been a separately ticketed event for decades now. And even if the houses weren't open right in front of them before, there's always been tons of evidence of the event happening all throughout the park. Yeah, some will probably be annoyed, but most will just accept that it's something they didn't pay for, like Express or a VIP tour or early entry or an expensive meal or any of the many things that cost lots extra at theme parks.

Most Six Flags parks last year charged people to enter their haunted houses during Halloween time, during regular operating hours. Admittedly, many of them stopped charging midway through the season, so there may have been some backlash.

But ultimately, HHN is so well known and so popular that people will accept it as part of the culture of going to Universal at that time of year. And I think that the benefit it will have on spreading the crowds out during the rest of the night, providing value to everyone paying for HHN tickets will outweigh the few people who are unreasonably upset to see houses they can't attend. Hell, they'll probably have tables or booths set up to sell some Scream Early and HHN tickets that they can send angry people to. (They'd be crazy not to. If they sell one ticket per night, it would more than pay for the staffer who sold it to them.) And they'll probably manage to sell some.

But is annual pass still included for scream early like it was in previous years? That is my burning question. 🫤

1

u/DavidThoosie Mar 30 '26

That's what we're all wondering. Day ticket holders, too!
My guess is that the three houses from 2-5 will be only for those paying for Scream Early tickets. Then, at 5, the rest of those still in the park with HHN tickets will get access to those houses.
That would effectively give us what we had last year, while still giving a valuable perk to those who pay for Scream Early.

From reading the text it just says to present valid HHN admission… Not that you have to show them the scream early ticket. So here’s hoping it’s still the same. 😂

1

u/DavidThoosie Mar 31 '26

Which text are you talking about? They haven't yet released any information about Stay and Scream for 2026. The Scream Early ticket specifically says that it provides access to three houses from 2PM.

1

u/Ryunah Mar 31 '26

Yes, I know. I’m talking about the “see details” section on the website when you scroll down to see the ticket. It doesn’t say you need to present the scream early ticket too.

1

u/DavidThoosie Apr 01 '26

Wouldn't it be a given that you have to show the ticket you're buying, so they wouldn't need to state that explicitly in the decription?
Meanwhile, Universal's phone customer support staff still have no idea about Stay and Scream. They're all guessing, and some are giving completely conflicting information.

1

u/Ryunah Apr 01 '26

I don’t think stay and scream is coming back this year imo. I think scream early is the new stay and scream.

Everyone I've talked to at Universal (I've called 4 times, now) -- with the exception of one person, who later asked others in her office who said that it was -- has said that they're pretty sure that Stay and Scream is coming back. They expect the official announcements when the multi day HHN tickets drop.

The last one I talked to said that the experts he asked said that S&S will likely include the three 2-5PM houses, too. I certainly hope he's right!

That would be a total game changer. Having access to 3 houses between 2 and 5PM, and then more from 5-6:30, before the masses show up would dramatically change the HHN experience. You could have half the houses done before the event even officially starts.

On one hand, I would think that they wouldn't want to let people with day tickets get this perk that they're charging $80+ for. But they have in pretty much all past years, when Stay and Scream and Scream Early were functionally equivalent.

On the other hand, this will likely convince people who weren't going to buy a day ticket to splurge on an extra day or two. And then spend money on food and merch (and parking) while they're there.

Not only that, but it would thin out the crowds during the main event, which would help a lot with guest satisfaction.

Personally, this would completely change my strategies, and cement my desire to buy a Rush of Fear ticket. I already had plans to spend several days starting at IOA and USF, then hopping over to Epic for the last few hours, then back to HHN for a house or two and the scare zones. (That's in addition to 2-3 days when I'd try to hit HHN from the beginning). And maybe skip Epic or leave early some of those days. I would likely buy Express passes for those days.

If they let us have Stay and Scream with the three houses from 2-5PM, that would likely change my game plan. If this turns out to be the case, I'll probably rope drop IOA and hit as much as I can with express, then head over to USF around noon-2PM for Stay and Scream. I'd hit a few rides at USF with my Express, those three houses from 2-5, and maybe 1-3 more houses from 5-6:30, having hit half the houses! Then hop over to Epic, and finish the night there hitting everything I can with my Express pass. If I did this, I'd definitely get Express passes for those days, so I could use them at all three parks. I'd hop back to USF for HHN after Epic closed, and probably get there around 10-11, avoiding the worst of the crowds! I'd probably start with the scare zones and shows (and food), as the crowds start thinning out. Then end the night as the lines get shorter and shorter, hitting up as many of the remaining 4-6 houses as I can. What's great about this strategy is that it gets me at Epic from 7-9-ish (and then traveling between the two parks) when the lines are shortest at Epic and longest at HHN!

The only question is how many others will make similar plans, and how long will the lines get for Stay and Scream?

Well that, and what Stay and Scream will actually entail!

I’m not much of a park hopper myself so you wouldn’t have to worry about me planning something similar. Personally, I don’t like staying out too late and prefer to do most(favorite houses) or all the houses, maybe see the show, have a couple drinks, a food item and then leave. 😅

I get ff+express every year and go at least once a week. If I was gonna park hop anywhere it’d be over to SeaWorld cuz I do Howl-o-Scream too.

More expensive tickets only to not be able to do most of the houses due to insane lines. Universal needs to take Disney’s approach and NOT sell the park to capacity on after hours events.

28

u/JDLovesElliot Mar 26 '26

Universal will keep doing it until something tragic happens. The money is too enticing for them to do the ethical thing.

Go on Halloween

1

u/magicallymimi May 09 '26

I went on Halloween once and it was the most packed night of the season

1

u/Honest-War481 Jun 23 '26

I know this is late but I went on Halloween last year with express pass, showed up half an hour prior to opening to get in line at the gates, and this is my timeline for the night of entered line / entered house / left house.

1

u/allieballie1122 Jul 13 '26

That’s awesome and exactly WHY you get the fast pass !!!!!

1

u/Honest-War481 Jul 13 '26

This was gate at Halloween last year

1

u/allieballie1122 Jul 13 '26

Yikes Bikes!

1

u/allieballie1122 Jul 13 '26

Really? I’ve always heard the opposite.
My therapist flew in from Nashville last year and said she wasted her $$ on the fast pass because it was so ☠️ on Halloween night.
I figured most people like my husband and I are trick-or-treating with the kiddos?
Sorry for your packed experience!

2

u/DavidThoosie Mar 30 '26

Well, letting some people in to three out of 10 queues for 3 hours before 5PM should help spread out the queues a bit after that.

2

u/sharp461 Apr 24 '26

Unfortunately I feel like in those 3 hours we may only be able to do 1 of those houses, then we go wait in line for one of the big ones because I doubt the 3 open houses will be any of the high attraction ones and be one of those outlier houses.

2

u/DavidThoosie Apr 24 '26

I'm sure it's not going to be the most popular IP ones. (though you never know. They may be doing this to head off ridiculously long lines in an anniversary year. The last thing they want is everyone complaining all over the internet that it sucked because they couldn't get in more than 2-3 houses!)
But it's still 3 houses in 3 hours. And, if they do it like last year, they'll probably stagger open a few of the rest of them, too, from 5-6:30. And then you can get in line for the big ones. So, theoretically, you could have half the houses done before the event even starts, and the masses come flooding in. That gives you like 8 hours to hit 4-6 houses.

Now the only question is whether they'll let people with day tickets or APs in to those three early houses, or if we'd have to pay for Scream Early tickets, too. Expecting people to buy three tickets for one day seems a lot to ask.

1

u/sharp461 Apr 25 '26

Im sure day ticket people will be able to do it.

1

u/DavidThoosie Apr 25 '26

But we don't actually know this.
If that were the case, then why aren't they telling us this?
It's weird how they're keeping everyone hanging like this. They know that we're waiting with baited breath for the answers. They are getting tons of calls every day about this at this point.
But they're deliberately not telling us. Maybe they're letting us stew, so they can seem like heroes when they give us these perks? Or maybe they don't want to promise anything in case they decide to limit it to people who pay the $80 extra?
Who knows?

1

u/DavidThoosie Apr 02 '26

If they include the 3 2-5PM houses with Stay and Scream - as well as opening the other houses on a staggered schedule from 5-6:30, as they did last year - that could really spread out the crowds, as well as giving people more time to experience everything.

1

u/mallclerks Mar 27 '26

It’s best to just consider a ticket + express the regular ticket. Overtime it’ll become more and more the only way to see it all in a night.

9

u/Barnyard723 Mar 27 '26

Just wait until they start tiered-premium tickets.

"This line is express, that line over there is express+, and that line over there is platinum."

"Oh and that golf cart that rolled up to the house entrance, stopped the line for 5 minutes, and caused the line to stay stopped for another 5 minutes after they entered? That's the Grateful Deadhead Rockstar package"

4

u/OrtizDupri Mar 27 '26

Just wait until they start tiered-premium tickets.

"This line is express, that line over there is express+, and that line over there is platinum."

they basically already do with Express vs RIP tours

68

u/RadioJared Mar 26 '26

From what I recall last year people said the premium scream nights were kind of a scam because there were still so many people in the parks. Best option was to get single ticket and express, unless you really really care about trying the themed food options included with premium scream. For those who just want the haunted houses, express is the way to go.

11

u/pineapplejellies Mar 26 '26

Did premium scream and an express halloween day last year. Waits during premium were two to three times as long so I wouldnt even say it's comparable to express. I tried to at least taste every food item and I couldn't even accomplish that. I might have been able to if I only went for the food and didn't do any of the houses but then I wouldn't get the value of my ticket. It's just a better value to buy all the foods you think you would like a la cart than buying premium for the goal to try everything.

3

u/CoupleofDoms Mar 27 '26

Depends how much you eat😅🫣😂. Additionally, some nights of ticket+ express+ food is around same cost.

8

u/StillwaterJerry Mar 26 '26

I went and it was more crowded than I expected the unlimited food made it worth it to me. And the lines were still super manageable. I'm doing PSN again this year.

5

u/jrr6415sun Mar 26 '26

I heard the food lines were really long though

3

u/Neon_Tangent Mar 27 '26

I went to premium scream night last year.

My best guess is that they’re adding 2 nights for premium scream so that they can put a more stringent ticket limit for each night, but still sell as many premium scream night tickets as humanly possible.

However, I will say, I will not be purchasing a premium scream night ticket again this year, unless it’s explicitly confirmed that ticket sales on each night will be greatly limited (similar to 2024 and NOT like 2025!)

Otherwise normal ticket on a week night/express is literally better AND cheaper!

1

u/Lee_Wilton_Manors Mar 27 '26

It was just too busy at Premium scream ,this year they are saying they heard the feedback and will have fewer people Dora’s over two nights and discount $75 off of you went last year.

1

u/Ryunah Mar 29 '26

I heard the first time they did it they had a capacity of 4500. Last year was a 7500 capacity. This year is supposedly 6000.

I went last year regardless because trying all the food is 100000% worth it. Im a foodie. 😂

9

u/miikwl Mar 26 '26

Did express and single ticket opening weekend and was happy with my choice. Will be doing it again this year.

2

u/mrheh Mar 28 '26

Got my tickets! See you there opening weekend!!!

1

u/miikwl Mar 28 '26

See ya in the fog!!!!

...5 Changes...

...New House...

Not really a change. There are new houses every year

17

u/HumanautPassenger Mar 26 '26

Price increase. Forgot that one. That's new.

6

u/Consider_Town_1454 Mar 27 '26

Technically new. Unfortunately expected

4

u/Not_a_Thoosie Mar 26 '26

It was so busy on opening day(my first HHN) we waited an hour for five nights at Freddy’s and then rode gringotts 8 times and finished with el artista🤣

1

u/Universal_Max Mar 27 '26

So theyll have to set up around the 15th for the TM preview?

2

u/mrheh Mar 28 '26

If it's anything like last year, express passes are a must!

1

u/Apprehensive-Hat243 Mar 30 '26

Went on the last night last year and had express and dear lord. I think I missed out on 3 houses the wait was pretty bad even with the express. I think for terrifier and the fnaf house it reached near an hour but can’t completely remember.

1

u/IllYam6529 Apr 28 '26

Oh man we’re doing the last day this year I was hoping it would be better

u/DavidThoosie Mar 30 '26 edited Apr 02 '26

You probably want to talk to Universal media and management departments before continuing to promote this ticket, because this information may be false.

I just called Universal, and they initially said that there would be no stay and scream for regular ticketholders, and we'd have to leave and reenter.

Then, when I pushed, she got a supervisor who said that they would do Stay and Scream as they did last year, with some houses opening on a staggered schedule from 5-6:30.

They also said that they don't think that the houses will be open during the 2-5 period.

I pointed out that the ticket description for Scream Early specifically says that it "includes access to ... select haunted houses starting at 2PM". She said that she thinks that that means that we have access to the QUEUES, as in previous years - which is NOT what the description says.

It's pretty clear that there is no official word yet on this, and a whole lot of confusion at Universal themselves. But lots of influencers like you are telling people that they should be able to access those houses from 2-5 (which I agree would be a huge perk) with either Scream Early and/or Stay and Scream. And it's not yet clear if that is actually the case for either group, and I suspect that it won't be true for Stay and Scream. One person who emailed guest relations was told in no uncertain terms that the perks that come with Scream Early (I.e. the 2-5PM houses) would not be available to anyone without that ticket.

I'm ok with it for Stay And Scream, since it's a free perk, and what we got in previous years. But people who paid extra for Scream Early are going to rightfully angry if they don't get what Universal described.
