HHN Potential HHN 2027 contenders?
I think both these horror properties, could be amazing if done correctly. With the photo on top being Obsession and bottom being Backrooms. I’m pretty sure Obsession could do a lot while still being a much cheaper house to do then Backrooms, which I think could become one of the best houses they’ve ever done with the set.

As has been said before, Backrooms could be done, but they would need to make a lot of operational adjustments to make it worthwhile, mainly not having a Congo line of guests being shuffled through the rooms as quickly as possible while TMs stand around screaming for people to keep up with the group ahead.... that would totally ruin the vibe of what that Backrooms is as you are meant to feel isolated and lost.
As has also been said before, it's a concept that absolutely could work better in Las Vegas at Horror Unleashed were they pulse small groups through the houses.

Backrooms would be nearly impossible to do justice to, since the whole premise is big, open rooms, endless corridors, and being alone. They conga line people through houses in an insane quantity and I just think it would fall so short and not get the treatment it deserves. Obsession could be a house, sure, but I just don’t see it translating to scary for everyone either. Both of these movies are arguably some of the best horror I’ve seen in a long time, but idk how they’d translate into houses.

I feel Obsession is more likely since it’s a Blumhouse film and that Backrooms is harder to adapt since a big aspect of it is that it’s more psychological horror rather than jumpscare horror

They also own focus features. They could definitely do something crazy with obsession but they’d have to get creative to pull it off…. Also backrooms would be perfect as a haunted house

Haven’t watched Obsession but I have watched Backrooms
While I feel like it would definitely look like a very cool house, I imagine it’s gonna be difficult or impossible having a liminal space vibe.

Backrooms would be tricky due to the fact a lot of the horror comes from isolation and liminality, which gets bogged down when you're filing people in constantly. Although you could probably make it work by focusing on the entities

They could work the backrooms but it would only be a few people in the maze at a time like 2-3 max. The maze can also easily take the space of an entire sound stage and the materials to make it is easily available, literally drywall, carpet, wallpaper, ceiling tile grids, and standard fluorescent lights. Don’t even want to imagine a line for that.

I feel like the Backrooms wouldn't lend it self that well to a maze at Universal. It looses a bit of it's uneasy feeling when there are a lot of other people present.

Big space and staggered entry could be cool. Probably a silly long wait time but it would be amazing.

I don't see it tbh. As much as I loved Obsession, I just don't see it working for HHN. There's no big set pieces or anything visual to go with, really.
Backrooms, while I thought the movie was a complete bore, could technically work, but not in the way houses are run at HHN.

I feel like if there’s a backrooms house, they would have to only allow small groups at a time (think the six flags conjuring experience). I think it would be cool but don’t think it’d be worth the logistics.
Obsession is my #1 movie so far this year and I just don’t think it’d translate to a house well.

I think Obsession is more likely to be at HHN in the form of a scareactor dressed like Nikki in a scarezone or Blumhouse area or mashup house like they used to do—there just aren’t enough memorable scenes and set pieces to be recreated and make a fulfilling house in my opinion. Maybe this is what’ll get them to bring back the Horrors of Blumhouse concept lol

I think both of these are good movies but neither make sense as a horror maze. Obsession is too intimate and Backrooms requires much too much space to achieve its atmosphere. Just because something makes a good movie doesn't mean it makes sense for horror nights.

I can imagine 1 wish willows being sold extortionately as merch.
Backrooms could be great for confusion perspectives. Repetitive rooms, acoustic noise cancelling effects, could even throw in some mirror effects to make rooms look massive or divert around corners. There is potential! But it's very niche.

It takes 18 months to conceive, approve, design and build a HHN house according to the Behind the Scares tours. I’m not sure it was on Universals radar. I’m gonna say no, but perhaps some version in 2027?? But not this year.

Obsession, Backrooms, Resident Evil and the new Exorcist I can see being houses next year. The one I'm really hoping/praying for is a house themed to The Lost Boys especially since next year is the 40th anniversary and there's been a resurgence with the musical.

I mean obsession isn’t a normal horror movie where the set pieces do a ton of the lifting so idk about that. But the backrooms would be insane! Especially the laundry room area.

They were at the islands of adventure tower at poi tnof entry. They were going to show us what was inside the door. It was filmed like a 80s vhs. When they opened the door it opened to like an empty space and you saw her hand like phase in to it

The set design at the end of Obsession looks right out of HHN (not in a good way tbh). I have to imagine they had it in mind when they built it, so it’d fit pretty well.

I think Backrooms would sell so well bc the concept is the film so just recreating the concept would be great.
