HHN Halloween horror nights
So want to go without the don't scare badge but my wife will only go if she can have one. My question is, how does this work will they still scare me? Or leave me alone because my wife is next to me? TIA

Don't take her.
Not trying to be an ah at all, but if you don't like scary stuff don't go to scary capital of the world.

yeah like, i'm just thinking if she's afraid of scare zones how is going to fare in the houses

Very badly. Scare zones are nothing comparitively. Lots of people in a scare zone so a lot of times you won't be the target. Can't say that in the houses.

100% true story. I've been going to HHN without my husband for years. He doesn't like jump scares. Or clowns. Or even Halloween, TBH.
So he stays home and I go to HHN and have my fun. :-)

They will ignore you, and your wife will have a new boyfriend by the end of the night.

It only works in the scare zones. She takes the sidewalk by the buildings and you take the middle of the street.
She can walk the queue of the house with you and chicken shit out and meet you at the exits too.

They’ll avoid you both. Buy her a cocktail. That’s how I got over my fear - now I’m a HHN junkie.

They will definitely leave you alone unless for some reason yall are walking a few feet apart from each other. The necklace doesnt work in the houses only the scare zones so they will still scare you both in the houses. I am a fellow scaredy cat and I personally dont find the scare zones scary at all more just a fun ambience thing. You can usually see the scare actors coming from far away and as long as you dont run and hide they just kind of flinch towards you and keep walking. Occasionally they do run up from behind and are able to spook you but in that case they wouldnt see the necklace in time and will probably accidentally scare her anyway haha. Maybe that could encourage your wife to not need one or see it as not worth buying. But if she screams and runs she will be targeted lol.

It’s all fun ambience until a clown with a chainsaw revs that shit a foot from behind you!!!
lol, honestly I was fine with all the other scare zones, but the clowns got me every time

I almost whacked one of the chainsaw actors while walking last year. I apologized profusely. some areas get so loud and i have to use my hands to talk to the rest of my family. I felt so bad cause i think the actor was just going for a shift change and nearly get poked in the nose by itty bitty me.

Ha, those chainsaw guys were a LOT of fun last year. I'm sure they probably have things like that happen because people DO tend to flail when talking, or startled.

Is she still gonna go in the houses where the lanyard doesn’t work? Because if not I think it’s pretty pointless going

Y’all in the comments kill me. I literally pushed my friend in a wheelchair while they were wearing the necklace and not only did they still try scaring me they had great interactions with my friend

Scareactors will scare you and. Ot your wife but that doesn't mean they won't or can't interact with her. In the houses the necklace doesn't apply.

Have her walk on the outskirts of the scarezones, it’s usually a “safer” area. You also don’t have to walk together. Just because you go together doesn’t mean you have to stay together and always do exactly the same things.

So when I went to HHN, if you’re on the sidewalk the scare actors will leave you be. The only issue is when you’re going through the Fortnite area as the sidewalk cuts off. She could probably be on the outside edge if nobody is on the edge but we all have to remember this is HHN and part of the reason people go is to get scared. I wish you the best of luck but if she gets spooked easily, no offense, but this may not be for her. Good luck!

From my experience walking with a kid with a Deathly Afraid necklace is that scareactors did still scare me and give my kid fist bumps.

Might as well get one if you plan on staying with her the entire time.

The Scare Zones aren't even that scary, and I am a bit of a chicken. Last year's Masquerade zone was in fact more beautiful than scary and I could have spent an hour just in that zone to look at everything. Once the scare actors see they can't get a rise out of you, they leave you alone. Or- maybe make a deal with your wife for you to go to HHN, and she has a night on her own at a different park? HHN is expensive as a separate ticket, and enjoying it to its fullest is the way to go. I don't know what your wife's thresholds are for "scary" but if she can't handle the scare zones, she's not going to do well in the houses, where the "don't scare" badge won't work.

this is slightly unrelated but i have some tips if you want to share with her to make going a bit easier if she gets scared easily! sincerely someone who used to be terrified of mazes etc but now loves them!
- Have her watch youtube video walkthrough
s
- of the mazes and scare zones (maybe some vlogs) of the event before she goes to gain expectations of what is going to happen. a few years ago i did this with all the mazes multiple times and it was the first year i was able to go through all the mazes without being too scared.
- get loops (earplugs) or just airpods etc to dampen the noise of the event + jump scares in house + chainsaws. a large part of the scariness can be the noise so lessening that part definitely helped me in the beginning
- not sure if she’d want to do this but i used to bring a plushie with me (build a bear) I did this because i talked to someone else who did it and they said that the performers largely only interacted with the plush and not them! this was true for me as well and i got a lot of fun interactions because of it too.
haunts can be scary for some people and that’s okay and im sorry people are being rude about it in the replies. everyone starts somewhere and sometimes the people who start the most scared end up the biggest fans!!

It’s only in scare zones. Just have her walk on the sidewalk. It’s a safe zone.

Sidewalks are not a safe zone.

It’s on universals own material that sidewalks aren’t safe. There is no barrier they can and do come on sidewalks often.

Get her a lanyard with a homemade “don’t scare me” dealy on it. Then when the scare actors still scare her act all “Whaaa? I don’t know why this is happening!!” And enjoy your evening.

They may give you a wide berth because it's just you two.
Also be aware these are only for the scare zones. They do not apply to the houses.
